Macellaio RC - Soho

Steak was tough and unseasoned. Service was slow but good.

We visited to celebrate a birthday and overall were disappointed with the experience. The restaurant is beautiful and has an open upstairs, but when we visited they had a child’s 5th birthday party booked, which we were not made aware of. This meant there was a lot of loud music, screaming and sounds of the entertainment that we could hear very easily. Given the disruption this caused caused, I feel it’s something that should have been shared with us before our booking. The Misto to start with was fantastic although the bruschetta was disappointing and lacked seasoning. The bone in rib was nothing to write home about and unfortunately the hanger steak was over cooked - the person who ordered it was not asked how they would like it cooked and therefore it was not to their taste at all. For the price of the meal I would not visit again as we were incredibly disappointed.

Really good meat in a very cozy environment with a good service

First visit. Won't be the last. Amazing steak. Easily better in our joint opinion than The Hawksmoor. Just need to save up for future visits 😜

Delicious food, we picked our meat from the fridge which was great, we chose the T-Bone to have both fillet and sirloin cuts, 700g between 2 people was more than enough! Would highly recommend the tomato salad as a side- it was so fresh! The owner made us bespoke cocktails which was a nice touch too. We will definitely return.

The staff is very knowledgeable. The background music was old-time classic jazz, my favorite. We were celebrating with my husband, 10 years - our wedding jubilee. The waitress Julia was very good. She guided us trough the menu and explained very patiently what the different meals contain, what is the difference in the test of the beef steaks which have different periods of maturing and also how the test differs depending on the breed of the animal... We were nicely surprised when they gave us 2 glasses of sparkling wine "on the house" for our wedding jubilee. I strongly recommend this r-t to everybody who really like to test something very special and with good quality. I have never eaten better beef steak than this and trust me, I have good base for comparison as i have been to 56 countries in the world, incl. Argentina - which is "the kingdom of the big beef steaks"))), USA etc. Dilyana Bouklieva

Amazing lunch in Soho yesterday and definitely one of, if not the best steak I have had in London. Staff were attentive and friendly with great food and wine recommendations. Would highly recommend and look forward to dining again soon.

The member of staff who greeted me was very attentive and took the time to explain the menu and portion sizes to me as a lone diner. He recommended a beautiful red wine and took my order for my food after bringing me some bread and olive oil to start with. The past dish I chose was lovely, al dente and coated in a rich authentic sauce. I will definitely return with company to try some of the sharing options.

We were really looking forward to our meal at Macellaio before going on to watch Les Mis. We had booked following ten 5* reviews, but unfortunately for us it was more 3* and not good value for money. Our starters were bland, which is not what you want to start a meal as first impression stick. The saving grace, and what made the experience 3* were the mains. These were the opposite of the starters - full of flavours, cooked to perfection and by far the best part of the meal. For 2 drinks, 2 bland starters and 2 great mains it was just over £100 when service was added. Overall on this occasion it wasn’t value for money but if you take our three * and add it to the other ten * reviews it might have just been one of those nights in the starter dept of the kitchen.
