Mango Thai Tapas is synonymous Thai cuisine in Southampton. Here at the Portswood restaurant, candle-lit dinners or get-togethers of close friends are made memorable thanks to a cool and relaxed dining experience that’s rare to find. A wide variety of small plates such as mango corncakes and crispy beef and prawn panko hit the sweet, sour, salty and spicy notes right on. If sharing isn’t your cup of tea (and with dishes like these who could blame you), try the Thai national dish pad Thai, or another satisfying Southeast Asian main course. Located on the corner of Portswood and Rigby Road, Mango Thai Tapas is a great place for all occasions, whether it's a group celebration with friends or a romantic dinner date for two.
Its a joy to have this restaurant to close to where we live. Food was delicious as always, ambience was great as well as the service. Perfect early-evening meal as always. Great value - faultless and highly recommended
Really good food, big portion sizes, amazing flavours, excellent smiley service, great choice of good. We went for the sharing platter as we couldn’t decide what to choose and they catered to our table’s requirements. We will definitely be going back to Mango Portswood.
Wednesday dinner: very happy, attentive staff, lovely food which was all portioned well. The restaurant was moderately busy, and we were very close to the tables next to us, however, we knew this could be the case due to the size of the restaurant so this was not an issue. Lovely evening.
The food and ambiance were terrific as was the service. I would recommend this restaurant. We went for a set price menu, gave our preferences and the food kept turning up, it was great!!!
Nice ambience - the decor and seating arrangements are very quirky, if not a tad uncomfortable over a long period (many of the seats are stools). The tapas was very good, although we didn't taste much crab in the soft shell crab. Thai fishcakes and duck rolls were especially good. Service was fine, a little on the slow side, but our waitress was very friendly and attentive. It made a nice change from all the large restaurants in central Southampton. Portswood is an odd location for a place like this, but is obviously changing for the better with the new stylish Mexican restaurant opposite as well and handy for The Brook too.
Food very tasty and of good standard. Most staff very friendly and helpful, however despite booking a table several days in advance we were given a table right next to the door on a very cold night! We asked if any other tables were free and brusque waitress said no this was all they had. We did manage to swap tables just as our starter arrived but we had to initiate as no effort was made to suggest this to us by way of making us feel comfortable. Also at the end of the main course I put my hand up to attract attention for the dessert / coffee menu and was presented with the bill - by this time we decided to leave!
Good food, great cocktails and super helpful staff. Overall, a very good dining experience! The only downside is that, as the room is quite small, the noise levels can get loud. On the evening we went there was a group of about eight people who were great, but quite boisterous. Their noise levels, coupled with the music being played over the house PA system, did not make for an atmosphere conducive to a romantic dinner for two!
I went to Mango with a group of friends as we had a 50% discount voucher, we all ordered form the tapas menu. We all felt that without the voucher we wouldn't have eaten here as the food was quite pricey. We also waited a long time for all our tapas to be brought out to us, meaning some of us had finished some of the dishes before we'd finished receiving what we'd ordered or things had gone cold - it would have been nice to eat everything while it was hot and mix and match. The Panang, Massaman and Jungle curries were excellent - we all agreed we'd order just curry if we were to come again. Our waiter was also lovely!!
We love Mango and have been many times. The food and cocktails are consistently good, and the Portswood venue is intimate and quirky. We had a very long wait between first and second courses, about 45 minutes I’d say, which was a shame, and the restaurant wasn’t busy, so no real excuse. If this was our first visit it might have put us off, but we are hoping it’s a one off.
wonderful service and food! We were put in a small room with another full table and were very tight on space especially as we had 4 children in our party which I did tell them about when booking. It was a shame as the rest of the restaurant was empty. That's the only reason I didn't give a 5!
