Bienvenue and welcome to Market Kitchen, a French restaurant in Ashton-in-Makerfield that is making more than a little of a name for itself. Their menu du jour is ever-changing and what we list below is but a sampler – understandably for a restaurant called Market Kitchen, they go to the market, buy what they find freshest and most appealing and then take it to the kitchen, cook it up howsoever they see fit and serve it to you at your table. Thusly, the plat du jour is always the option, ensuring that only the most seasonal, most organic and freshest ingredients are used. You can find them at Numero Un, Rue de Warrington – OK, Warrington Road, as this still Ashton after all – and when you go, you can feel like you’ve moved from Wigan to their more illustrious twin town of Angers. Indeed, amid all the seasonal veg and ingredients, when we last checked there was still a pie on the menu. After all, what else would Wiganers put on a stick and call a kebab? Book a table now.
Great food great customer service loved it. First visit this year and will not be the last. The cordon bleu chicken was the best I have tasted.
Fantastic food. Always happy when I have been. Change of menu every week shows you how good it is. Very different and tasty dishes. Highly recommend.
There is always a very friendly welcome and nice atmosphere here. The menu choices are good and the quality of the food is excellent, home cooked with interesting combinations. The lunch time specials are great value. Best restaurant in Ashton.
Food and service are always excellent and the menus are different each week. Michael and Richard run a friendly restaurant and you’re always made to feel very welcome. Cassie, of course, is wonderful 😊 we look forward to seeing her every time we go
I can't recommend The Market Kitchen highly enough, staff are really friendly, food is simple but well cooked and the atmosphere is relaxed. We have a house in France and the whole experience is very authentic and gives you the impression that you could be sat in a French bistro in France especially when sat upstairs
Found this place on Trip Advisor and what a quaint little place it is. Cannot believe that this little gem is more or less right on our very own doorstep. Lovely inside and your made to feel welcome straight away. The food was FANTASTIC and very reasonably priced. Cannot rate this place highly enough and will be visiting very soon.
Beautiful food, great ambience and wonderful, knowledgeable hosts. What more could you want. I will definitely be paying Market Kitchen many more visits. A hidden gem of a restaurant.
As always, great food, friendly staff and good atmosphere which all made for a good evening out - thank you. Would recommend Market Kitchen to anyone to try out!
We booked this little place with a bit of uncertainty, but to be honest we had wonderful food in a lovely setting . with the french music in the background made you feel relaxed and the service was second to non. overall we had a great experience here and will be going back for more.
The whole experience was positive from the welcome to the excellent cuisine. The food was delicious, due I was told to the fact that they always use homegrown produce. I am going again soon.
