Bienvenue and welcome to Market Kitchen, a French restaurant in Ashton-in-Makerfield that is making more than a little of a name for itself. Their menu du jour is ever-changing and what we list below is but a sampler – understandably for a restaurant called Market Kitchen, they go to the market, buy what they find freshest and most appealing and then take it to the kitchen, cook it up howsoever they see fit and serve it to you at your table. Thusly, the plat du jour is always the option, ensuring that only the most seasonal, most organic and freshest ingredients are used. You can find them at Numero Un, Rue de Warrington – OK, Warrington Road, as this still Ashton after all – and when you go, you can feel like you’ve moved from Wigan to their more illustrious twin town of Angers. Indeed, amid all the seasonal veg and ingredients, when we last checked there was still a pie on the menu. After all, what else would Wiganers put on a stick and call a kebab? Book a table now.
Food is just like in rural France. Delicious with great service. Small menu but good choices. Good house red friendly staff and nice music all contributed to a very nice evening.
Another excellent lunch at the Market Kitchen. Took my parents for the first time and they loved it too. The waitress was friendly and informative as usual, and there was room for my sleeping baby. Looking forward to my next visit.
Really nice lunch time treat. The staff are really friendly, the surroundings are relaxing and the food is really nice and good value. Overall I'm really glad we chose to go to the Market Garden.
