A pleasant meal in a lovely environment, very handy for theatre. Our order was lost but the staff sorted quickly and we were happy with their response.

Tasty food. Buzzing before the theatre, so makes for a noisy experience. Very friendly service. Happy to discover that Prosecco and cocktails were on special offer at half price.

An excellent and enjoyable meal in a very nice environment. The service was a bit amateurish but will doubtless improve. We shall certainly visit again

Restaurant still bright and service good but food from pre -thetatre menu was mediocre for most of our table of four. I must say that the home made mushroom soup and cod, in my case, was good value and well produced.

We went pre-theatre on a Saturday evening, the restaurant was very busy, we arrived early and were shown to our table no problem. The service was very efficient, food very good and a reasonable price. Location is ideal for the theatre and will go again. We loved the loos situated in the old bank vaults.

We've always had a good measl here but this time unfortunately it was not. Starters fine but main courses very poor. Service was very good.

Delicious food, fairly priced. Service was friendly and polite, a little chaotic but it was pre-theatre time on a Saturday. Very convenient for the Chichester theatre.

No. 1 was a friendly and delightful place. I enjoyed the food and the staff were accommodating with regard to substitutions. A trifle noisy for old ears when full.

Good choice of menu, friendly staff & great atmosphere. Also very handy for a pre theatre meal if you're going to the Festival Theatre or just meeting up with friends.

Cannot fault the service, staff or food. Prices of food and drinks acceptable. Good selection of specials on blackboard. Good sized portions. Very varied menu. Something for all tastes.

After reading other reviews, we decided to eat at No1 after such good feedback. How disappointing. We complained twice about the length of time waiting for our main courses, 40 minutes to us was unacceptable. We also heard other people complaining. I have never left a review about anywhere before but felt other customers should be warned. The food was ok but sadly not good enough to make us want a return visit.

Lovely venue, decent food although pork was disappointing. Service fine but they were busy and didn't cope well - only one card machine going round for payment so others in my group had to leave to make sure they got to theatre and leave me to wait, pay and run!

Celebrated my birthday with cocktails and dinner with the girls. The service was first class, and the food very good. It was a fantastic evening, and I would definitely recommend it. The birthday dessert they presented me with was very touching.

Excellent food; good attentive, friendly service. Reasonable choice on the menu. Prices OK, but not cheap. Slightly on the noisy side - but that was because there was a wedding party in. The location was convenient.

Fantastic food & great atmosphere. Good offers on cocktails & Prosecco. Located very close to Chichester Festival Theatre so a good place for pre-theatre dining.

Made to feel very welcome, and lovely food. Only downside, didn't have a starter as it wasn't our to our taste. But overall very nice evening out.

Disappointing. Insufficient food at 6:15pm set the tone for the evening. FOH staff apologetic but we've had better at No1. Will try once more as we know it is usually good.

This restaurant has an excellent menu. We both really enjoyed the daily specials of Mushroom Soup and Crab/Lobster Salad. Presentation was excellent. Happy hour provides a great way to enjoy a cocktail for £5.

Very nice food. The staff were a bit stretched as it was Goodwood racing and very busy. Cocktails were half price and were very nice.

Light bite menu not available when there is a play on at the Festival Theatre which we were not aware of which was disappointing. We did each enjoy our chosen course from the specials menu.

We visited No.1 Northgate after a matinee at Chichester Festival Theatre. The restaurant looks beautiful and the staff and their service impeccable. The menu's were varied and all the food terrific except perhaps a chocolate tart which one of our party had. The rest of us were too full after Starters and Main courses. The other big plus was that, as we arrived before 7pm, cocktails were half price - a great start to a great meal.

Food was delicious and friendly service great. The restaurant is well located for both the city centre and Chichester Festival Theatre, public parking located nearby.

Pre theatre supper, excellent meal, friendly and competent staff. Had the theatre supper menu, which was very good. No problem that had booked for three but one was very late.

Perfect location for pre theatre dinner, in elegant but relaxed surroundings. Service was attentive and the set menu offered a selection of interesting options which did not disappoint. With the option of half price cocktails between 4 &7 adding to our evenings enjoyment. This was our first visit to No. 1, but not our last and we are already looking forward to a return visit.

Had the first two courses of the Pre-Theatre Menu. Both of us really thought the dishes were well designed, interesting, tasty and well- cooked and presented. Very friendly and quick service. Well done!

On our anniversary we dined pre theatre at No 1. The service was excellent but the food was not as good as expected or as good as the previous Italian restaurant Marcos that used to occupy the premises. I doubt we will eat there again as there are so many other restaurants offering pre theatre menus in Chichester.

Unfortunately joined by Glorious Goodwood revellers when looking for a quiet pre-theatre meal. Food was good but a little restricted by choices for me as I can not eat peppers.

A varied Menu Du Jour at a reasonable price combined with friendly and courteous service makes No 1 a very wise choice for lunch. The location is perfect for pre and post theatre eating and reservations can be made easily on line.

A great spot for Sunday lunch in a smart and comfortable dining room with crisp white tablecloths. An excellent roast can be had for £15. We had the beef with generous thick pink slices and a cracking Yorkshire pud. The veg was fresh and varied. Followed by the cheesecake for me and the brownie for my wife at £6 each; both excellent. The food was delivered quickly and without any fuss by the good front of house staff. This restaurant is well known for its pre-dinner menus for the Chichester Theatre but has lots more to offer as well. Worth a try and only a few yards from the Theatre car park. Just a £1 on Sunday for 3 hours!

Only reason it doesn't get 5 is because we were on the pre theatre menu and they didn't serve us very quickly. Food was excellent.

We were very disappointed with our main course (we both had the chicken) and felt it was not up to the restaurant's usual high standard.

Really poor main course - fish cakes almost inedible and couldn't find the fish. Chips soggy. Oysters to start with were ok. Used to be a pre theatre favourite venue but won't bother again.
