Excellent meal well served in comfortable surroundings. Good value for money.Would recommend restaurant. This is my second visit and on both occasions I have been really pleased.
As always red onion never disappoints. The hardest part of our visit was choosing which options to go for and the enevitable food envy when you see everything arrive. My tip would be visit with someone who likes to share and then you can have a taste of theirs too 😉.
Nice atmosphere; friendly staff and excellent food at a reasonable price. We had travelled through from Edinburgh because of the range of vegan options and were not disappointed.
Fantastic what else is there to say!! excellent food, friendly staff, John's menu is so good you have difficulty choosing what to have!!! Love this place 😍
Great service, great food and great atmosphere. The freshness can be tasted in every bite and wonderfully complemented by the most delightful sauces. The only thing stopping this being a 6 and not exclusive to this restaurant is the need to serve soft drinks in 200ml bottles at a very substantial mark up! Not a major issue and understand staff costs, running costs etc are added to this but ordering 2 in the one go (I like a pint) just double the price to £4+ for 400ml! Great restaurant with a great reputation but draught coke surely wouldn't damage this.
Service was friendly and attentive, food was delicious with so much choice for all tastes including vegan and gluten free in our party, (this alone was a triumph!) and even for midweek the ambience was excellent. Not our first visit and certainly not our last
Lovely food. Fantastic to see a vegan menu and the staff were very cheery and pleasant. No complaints around my three courses and I'd definitely eat there again.
Booked a table for the pre-theatre before going to an event at the Hydro . Once again the quality and choice of food was superb and an absolute steal at £16.95 foe three courses .
Good food, good surroundings, excellent service. We had a lovely evening at the Red Onion, next time I'm in Glasgow I won't hesitate to go back.
Great lunch, good service and reasonable pricing. Always consistent with a good choice of menus and options. Good feel and always a busy place... can't beat the surf and turf when it's on
Been here a few times now and have never been disappointed. The menu is great with high quality food as always. Friendly service. Generous sized portions on children's menu.
This was my fifth visit to The Red Onion - previously, once as a work lunchtime outing and three times with my partner and other couples. As always, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. On this occasion we took my partner's parents as part of a Christmas outing to the theatre and they were extremely impressed with the venue and loved their menu choices. It is very refreshing to enjoy good food in such nice surroundings while being looked after by attentive and efficient staff and to be charged a reasonable tariff. We all agreed that dinner for four (2x3 courses and 2x2 courses), including a bottle of wine and soft drinks for under a hundred pounds in a quality, city centre restaurant was impeccable value - and we got parked at the door. Looking forward to our next visit soon.
Great food. The restaurant was busy around 6pm. As they have a pre theatre menu, I would think that this would be the reason why, as the main meals were a little overpriced. Look for good deals with the Red Onion as this is a lovely little restaurant.
We really enjoyed our meal at the Red Onion. Great choice on the menu. All three courses were all we could have asked for. I normally only ever have two courses, but decided to have three, as did my two friends, and we were glad that we did. The staff were very attentive without being intrusive. Great value for money and each of us would be happy to recommend the Red Onion to friends and family and would visit again. Cannot really think of anything negative to say about the food or service. The only criticism would be that the tired toilets let it down. Definately not the same standard as the food.
Good value and tasty food with a good variety of choices on the menu. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. The only criticism is that my meal wasn't particularly hot so it was perhaps waiting for the others to be ready.
Very good right up until we had to pay the bill. The staff seemed very disinterested, we had to seek them out to say bye and even then they still seemed to be busy. Even then there was no thank you.
Cannot fault food or service . One of the best restaurant's in Glasgow . Their Seth menus are great value for money . Advisable to book as it is busy for lunch and dinner .
The meal was really good all 3 courses were beatifully presented .will be back price was fair and staff were attentive lovely atmosphere would recommend to friends
we had the pre theatre menu and couldn't fault it. the food was beautiful and the service was was fabulous. would thoroughly recommend the Red Onion and will definitely repeat the experience.
Lovely relaxing lunch with excellent food from an extensive menu choice, even on the market menu. Gluten and dairy free well catered for. Loved it.
We had such lovely food and the price/quality it pretty amazing. Very relaxed atmosphere and friendly service, with some good tunes in the background. Can't wait to go back.
Fabulous food, great waiting staff and great value for money in a very relaxing setting. Highly recommend a visit and it will blow you away
Great as always! My boyfriend and I loved it. Thanks for a great night. Red Onion is one of my favourite places in Glasgow :)
Good was good but glasses scratched by dishwasher, black plates which mains were served on we chipped round edges and cheap paper napkins. Also space in booth we were placed at was so tight it was uncomfortable. So good good wasted by lack of attention to detail!
Food delicious...decor very pleasing...only 2 waiters working a very busy shift...no time for us to have dessert :( Otherwise would have scored top marks Would still recommend tho'
Amazing food, brilliant service! Love the Red Onion for their vegan menu choice, the staff are all very attentive and look as though they truly enjoy working there. You can tell that a lot of care is put in to every customers meal and experience!
Excellent restaurant and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed, warm environment with first class food and great service. Can't wait to go back
Pre-theatre menu very good, served quickly without ever feeling rushed. Good price and this is the second time this week we've dined there. The pre-theatre menu is virtually the same as the lunch menu.
City centre, Fab quality, great value lunch in a relaxed surrounding and with Good portions. Limited menu but it is only £10.95. Great to see John Quigley in his whites in the restaurant
The pre-theatre menu had plenty of choice and all the selections from our group of 5 were very tasty, the smoked haddock fish cake possibly being the star. The waiting staff were helpful and not overbearing, but when the restaurant got busy seemed a little over stretched. Only issue was that they managed to get our bill wrong twice!!, but otherwise a very pleasant pre-theatre meal. Would probably go back again.
Food simply fabulous. Lovely place with great staff. Gluten free menu for pre-theatre and al a carte. Ten out of ten for making me feel comfortable and relaxed. Some food places don't get the special dietary requirements so well done Ted Onion. Recommended you on the Gluten Free Facebook page.
Great food and very good portion size, service was warm and friendly. We all agreed that we would return again to The Red Onion. Five Stars.
This was our first time at the Red Onion. The food was wonderful and the staff were extremely attentive. We could not have asked for a better Christmas Eve meal.
Great food as usual but had to send one main back as it was luke warm only. Came back scalding, so hot couldnt go near it!!. Sat at a table in corner near bar with air con blowing down on us on a cold day! Got moved to window seat, not much better. Had to wash hands in gents toilet in cold water. Waiter seemed harrassed. We love the place but standards seem to be falling.
Fabulous food as always! Could have 3 courses of the French Onion soup alone! The Blade of Beef was beautifully tender and the chicken was equally nice. Highly recommended.
Great menu and attentive staff. Food was superb and our chat with the chef was a pleasant bonus. I'll be happy to get the chance to go again
Good menu , good service. Food good but not outstanding. ' Ladies ' could do with a facelift! Generally though, a good night with nice atmosphere - not stuffy
We have been to The Red Onion on four previous occasions and we have never been disappointed. Again we had great food with happy friendly service. Recommend the Sea Bass with Caesar Salad. Looking forward to our next visit.
Friendly staff, nice decor and good food. Convenient location and good value for money with the pre-theatre menu. Will definitely be back in the New Year.
Excellent staff and service, we ran a little late with our arrival, however having phoned to advise of same along with requesting an additional two covers, we were accommodated with a smile. Food and service briiiiiilllllllllll !. BH. Lanark, yeah we travelled from the " sticks " to Gods country .............................a Govan Bhoy at heart.
Excellent venue took my sister who lives in London and wishes Red Onion had a place in London as it was so good to be able to eat vegan dishes with meat eating family who also enjoyed their dinner as much as the vegan and veggieeater too
We have been to this restaurant a good few times and the food never disappoints, salt and pepper squid, monkfish korma, both lovely ,and the best dessert ever ,hot raspberries with white chocolate sauce. Staff always very pleasant and helpful, and price quite reasonable.
Dinner was lovely , we had the pre theatre offer , also gluten free , will go back again when visiting Glasgow . Also stayed in hotel over the road , so very handy
The Red Onion never disappoints, the quality of the food is outstanding and choosing from the fixed price menu makes it a very affordable option for a late lunch or a pre-theatre meal. We have been occasional customers at the Red Onion for several years now and the meal and service are always first class. Quite often chef/owner John Quigley comes round the tables to chat to the diners, a lovely, personal touch. I would recommend the Red Onion to anyone looking for unpretentious, good food and friendly hospitality.
Lovely restaurant with attentive friendly staff. I am Coeliac and I had an excellent choice of starters and sweets from the gluten free Christmas menu. I was limited for choice on the main course as I am pescatarian but the sea bass I was served was beautifully cooked as were the accompanying vegetables. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant and I will certainly be visiting it again. 10/10
Lovely meal as usual. Had set menu good value would be nice to see updated set menu seems to have been the same for ages but still love this restaurant. We'll be back.
Good food, good service. Lunchtime was quiet and we were served quickly and efficiently. We all had fish which was correctly cooked. A good, streamlined (in a good way) and well priced wine list.
First visit to THe Red Onion .A hidden gem . Fantastic choice of gluten free food delivered with outstanding service. Fantastic end to a great day . Will definitely be back .
Red onion is a lovely restaurant. The pre theatre menu was excellent value and the food was very good. The service was very efficient. I really enjoyed my meal.
The waitress was very nice , friendly and helpful . I loved the fact that they adapted the lunch menu for my dietary needs . Lovely find and will return .
