You are always guaranteed a good meal at the Red Onion. The atmosphere and the service were good too. I have been several times now and it is consistently good.
Good food great friendly staff and great atmosphere. My friend order steak and it was cooked to perfection, I ordered a blade of beef and it was very tender.
The food was simply delicious, the service was excellent but not intrusive and we found the restaurant to be smart, clean and relaxing. Lunch menu was varied and affordable - all in all a lovely afternoon.
Great food, lovely atmosphere on a wet and miserable evening and great service...what more do you need to set the night off before an evening at the theatre
Waiting staff were lovely, really nice atmosphere - open fire and cosy booths as well. Food was delicious, especially the blade of beef and duck main !
Great food, great service and great night! We will be back soon and I would highly recommend. Central location in Glasgow and handy for theatres as well.
Food not very interesting. Seating cramped. Service OK. Expensive for not very exciting food. Will not go back. Last visit which was at lunch time was quite different.
Good value food, nice atmosphere. We were seated upstairs which was very warm. The food service was very quick but drinks service a bit slow. Ordered drinks and had to ask for them again and same with settling bill.
Excellent food atmosphere and staff . Roating fire which greets you on a cold day is lovely. Staff are so polite and helpful and food is delicious .
Food was delicious and service was great. Waitress gave us great recommendations obviously knew the menu well. Lovely friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend a visit.
The food was exceptional and very good value. The pre theatre menu offered variety and the portion sizes were generous too. I will definitely be back soon.
We wanted to treat a very special friend to dinner before she went away. I booked online (very smoorth process and we were greeted warmly on arrival. I've been here a few times and never had a bad experience. Very happy to say that this is still the case. Having all opted for the pre-theatre menu, we had two French onion soups and the soup of the day (Thai Sweet potato & cocount) to start. The French onion was so, so tasty and perfect for a really wintery evening. Mains were Haddock fishcake and two lemon chicken kormas. Again, everything was delicious. So much flavour in the fishcake and the peas sauce and lettuce seemed like a slightly odd accompaniment but was so light, fresh and tasty - perfect compliment. A fruit crumble for dessert and I treated myself to a dessert from the main menu. Devestated that I couldn't finish it! Cheescake with caramelised banana and peanut brittle. Staff were friendly, courteous and gracious. I've previously eaten from their vegan menu and the food has always been beautiful. Can't wait to return!
Nice restaurant, good food, reasonable service. The chef came out to talk to diners and clearly proud of the restaurant. The French onion soup is fabulous.
We made very welcome, even the lighting was adjusted so we could read the menu! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals - one from the pre-theatre menu, the other a la carte. My sea bass was perfectly cooked and worked well with the chorizo salad and hugely generous portion of chips.
Helpful staff, good service, warm welcome, good value. I will score 6 when the pre-theatre menu gets a refresh. But this is a very small issue. Always happy to catch a meal here.
We ate of the pre-theatre menu which has been the same for years and years, thankgoodness as the food was excellant and the serverce quick and friendly.
The food was delicious, the staff were excellent. My only gripe was that the toilets could do with un update. They were clean enough but a bit worn.
Love Glasgow, Love the Red Onion. Visit Glasgow maybe twice a year, always visit the Red Onion for great food, atmosphere... does that make me a regular??!! :)
The Red Onion is our regular choice for a pre theatre meal on the way to the.....theatre.Again we were not disappointed. We always get another good "first impression" .The staff are friendly but not overbearing.the menu is varied but too much choice. The Bang Bang chicken is a delight, either as a starter or main.Good value for money,we'll be back
Very enjoyable meal, food excellent and restaurant comfortable. A busy evening but all the waitresses were friendly and the right level of attentive. I would recommend this restaurant.
First class head chef came to say hello spent time with clients top man food great and great price and waiting staff very pleasant and helpful
Had a lovely lunch here with friends. The service was really good and they were very accommodating of the baby with us. Will defiantly be back.
Very nice restaurant, good food but menu needs to be revamped. The last time I was there was quite a while ago but the menu still seems the same. Would go back.
The service was great and the food was delicious. The restaurant was spotlessly clean with an excellent friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to my next visit.
good service, nice place but the food was very average, iwill not be rushing back and I do not think I would recommend the lunch which my wife and I had,the evening meals may be better
The food is delicious as always and their always able and happy to help with our dietary requirements! I thoroughly recommend!! The food is also incredibly well priced!
Second visit not a patch on the first had the same starter and main course bang bang chicken looked as though it had been thrown together and the pork myself and my wife had was tough as old boots. Not impressed.
First class service and first class food. Nice surroundings especially the open fire which made the restaurant feel welcoming. Very handy to shopping area generally.
Excellent 2 course lunch. Highly recommended. We both had Bang Bang Chicken Starter then Fish & Chips and Chicken & Mushroom Risotto. Service friendly & efficient.
Excellent food and service. Menu delightfully Scottish. Chef visit to the table a very nice touch. Have been a few times and can highly recommend.
Made to feel welcome when we arrived as a party of six. Arrived slightly earlier than booking time but was not a problem as table was ready. Waitress was very welcoming and took out jackets and gave us time to choose wine and then took food order. Service was very good and all dishes served from starters, mains and deserts were really good and certainly value for money.
Excellent food - very attentive staff - it was a birthday meal which was made so much more by the wonderful experience - thank you
Good food in pleasant surroundings and service from very attentive staff what more could you ask for. It was particularly good for vegans with a range of choices not just a grudging take it or leave it plate of vegetables.
Great friendly and attentive service. The location is easy to find and accessible from either the main bus station or either of the two main train stations. The food was delicious!! :)
Lovely pre theatre meal as always. Very good french onion soup, with the bread and cheese crouton and even had a hello from chef John Quigley, perfect.
Very helpful staff, however the food didn't quite match our expectations. The vegan of the party enjoyed her meal whilst the rest of us had a very small steak frite portion which was really quite chewy, we've had better from a far cheaper bar down the road. We had opted for 2 courses and were tempted by a dessert but instead of this coming from the same menu it came from the full menu which we weren't aware of until we got the bill! Suppose that's how they make their money.
The food was superb, as always, and the staff this evening were very attentive and on the ball. A lovely experience. We will be back soon.
The staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome. The restaurant is cosy. It's not a vast menu but the food is well cooked and tasty.
It's some time since we have dined at the Red Onion due to our last experience there. On our last visit my husband and I had not been that impressed with the food or the standard of service. We decided to give it one last go to see if things had improved. We where both pleasantly surprised, we got a warm friendly welcome from staff. Given plenty of time to have a look at both the wine list and menus. When the food arrived it was of a good standard and flavorsome. I had the veg soup of the day which was good, my steak mains was very tender cook to my liking and peppercorn sauce added to the flavor of the steak. My husband had bang bang chicken salad and for his main he had the pork meatballs and spaghetti . Our overall experience on our recent visit was relaxed and friendly and we had a good experience.
All the food we had was really tasty, and it was good that they also have a vegan set menu as one of my friends is vegan, so everyone could enjoy a nice meal :)
Always a treat eating at the Red Onion. I am gluten free and so having my own stylised menu helps me to enjoy eating out knowing that the chef has carefully prepared the food to suit my dietry requirements. Have read that the chef can also cater for many dietry requirements ie lactose intolerant, vegan etc Staff very welcoming and friendly. A lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. Food was delicious and so fresh. 10/10 every time.
Food was amazing and all ages of the party from 5yrs to 68yrs wete catered for defo a place to go if ur in glasgow
I LOVE red onion it's my fav place to eat in Glasgow and the lady's that lunch menu is fantastic and such value for money 10 out of 10 for me x
We visited Red Onion, wanting a nice meal a quiet table - no intrusive background music - so we could hear each other talk, as we were having an informal meeting of our work team. It ticked all those boxes, even though it was quite busy, being a Thursday evening. One of the party is Vegan, and she was very pleased with the choices on that menu. Another received good advice on how to order the steak and it was cooked just the way she wanted it. The fishcake was very filling with lots of fish and not over-potatoey. My wild mushroom risotto was very tasty and just the right amount. The puddings were great. We went for the fruit crumble, banana fritters and I can vouch for the ice-cream with salted caramel sauce which was more than moreish. The bottle of Prosecco was favourably priced compared to other restaurants and bars. Waitress was helpful without being overly-attentive (meaning not constantly checking if we were enjoying the food, etc, which can be irritating) Altogether a very pleasant evening in terms of food, ambience and the two-course pre-theatre menu is great value for money. We'll be back !
A great meal and great service. Will be going back soon to enjoy some more of the menu and very much looking forward to it.
Speedy and very friendly service. Food delicious as always. Great wee lunch menu. Perfect choice for lunch in Glasgow. Will be back again very soon.
Friendly staff, great food, super value for money and they didn't bat an eye when friends brought in a huge balloon unicorn as a wind up for the person who's birthday we were celebrating!
Lovely meal served by friendly efficient staff. I had the pre-theatre and my husband went a la carte. Not cheap but good value for money and just a really good atmosphere in the place. We've been before and will certainly go back.
Lovely food and good service. Pre theatre menu is excellent value for money. Would highly recommend as we've never been disappointed with our meal here.
Very nice restaurant, always very good for and service. Very much a favourite in Glasgow! They even have a couple of vegetarian options on the 2-3 course set meals. Very good indeed!
