About San Giovanni
You’re never that far away from a top Italian restaurant in Manchester, and if you’re out in Urmston, then you’re lucky enough to live near one of the very best in the city. San Giovanni is known in Salford and beyond as a dining destination that ticks all the boxes for a truly great Italian: from fresh pasta and risotto, sophisticated seafood starters and authentic antipasti to proper pizzas, meat and fish and even a few regional specialities thrown in to boot. If you take a trip to Lostock Road in the heart of Urmston and stop off at San Giovanni then you’re in for a real treat. Eating out in Manchester is often dominated by the countless curry houses and the bright lights of Chinatown, but the Italian dining scene is also very impressive, and almost every district can boast an Italian restaurant of renown. San Giovanni on Lostock Road in Urmston stands out even among this competition, and they have elevated themselves above the usual red sauce and check tablecloth joints with a simple formula, dedicated to fresh ingredients and traditional, time honoured cooking techniques from the bel paese. Let us walk you through the menu that you will have the pleasure of selecting from when you visit San Giovanni.
The starters are the obvious place to begin, and the San Giovanni repertoire is big on the classics. Seafood is prominent, with fresh mussels and sauteed king prawns available, and the Roman speciality of spicy meatballs is always worth a try. Italian custom dictates that a pasta course must follow, and we’ll point you in the direction of the ravioli with lobster or the linguine amatriciana, with smoked bacon, tomato and a hint of chilli. The mains include some real big hitters, from veal escalope to prime fillet steak and slow cooked lamb in red wine. We could go on all day, but instead we’ll simply encourage you to book a table at San Giovanni and then mosey on down to Lostock Road to enjoy one of the best Italian restaurants in Salford.
Brilliant food and service, however we go there a lot and have never had a bad meal!! We will be go ng again in a few weeks
My favourite restaurant to meet with my friends. Lovely place, great food and the staff are very friendly with a good attitude. Will be booking again in November.
Always friendly and good very nice. Have eaten there on many occasions. Would recommend this restaurant. Only downside the parking and entrance (of a rounderbout)
San Giovanni is an amazing place, food is exceptional, the service is always attentive and efficient with a warm family welcome every time. Have booked for Christmas Day as love the place so much
Can't recommend San Giovanni's more highly. We have eaten here many times and as always the food was delicious and the service was excellent. All of the staff are so friendly and made us and our little one feel so welcome. Eating out with a young child can be daunting but the staff here went above and beyond to make our evening a special one .. thank you.
This is an excellent Italian restaurant. It was our first time at San Giovanni's and from the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. The food was excellent, as was the wine :) The owner came over to us as we were leaving which was a nice touch. If you are looking for a family, traditional Italian with the best food look no further
Have been to San Giovanni's many times before and it is a local favourite. The food is always top class, the staff attentive to customer needs and also very happy, we had a good banter with two of the staff last night which just added to the experience. Price is reasonable too. Highly recommended 😊
First time of eating here. The food was very nice (lasagne). Would definelty like to visit again to try another dish. Waitress was friendly. Only down side was it closes fairly early. Table booked for 8. Following a 3 course meal it was around 10 pm and we were the only people apart from another couple left in the restaurant. Which made us feel we needed to rush off. We have since been told that they have a disco upstairs but was not told about this.
Staff were lovely, warm and attentive. Starters good, San Giovanni Bruscetta and pate. Mains: Fillet steak brilliant. Only let down was that he bacon in the Amatriciana sauce was very fatty and chewy so had to be left. Overall would return though.
As soon as we arrived we were shown to our table. Service excellent, food hot and tasty, cooked perfectly. This was my son's first time here and was already asking before we left when we would be returning. The staff were really friendly and polite. Would recommend going for a meal here we thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be going back for more!
Delicious food that was cooked and served to perfection. Great and varied menu. Excellent service from the staff From arrival to leaving. Definitely recommend San Giovanni
Wonderful dining experience as always, the service is fantastic and the food is amazing every time we go. We love San Giovannis and recommend to everyone!
Took our son, daughter-in-law and 6 yr old granddaughter there when they were up from London for the weekend and they were very impressed with how friendly and attentive the waiter was especially keeping the little girl amused with jokes etc. Also the food was excellent. Can definitely recommend it.l
We are regular visitors to San Giovanni's and always find the staff very pleasant and the food of high quality at a reasonable price
Lovely food and great service. We turned up with an extra person and they just extended the table, no problem. Highly recommended. Pizzas were all good, and the pasta was perfect. I'v ebeen here many times ans it's always excellent.
Service willing but not very slick. Our party had steak Diane which was too thick and difficult to chew, the duck was overcooked on the outside and masked by the sauce. The lamb dish was successful. Yes we should have raised these issues at the time but we were out with friends and restaurant was busy and it was not so dire as to be inedible - just not as good as we have had in the past.
The food and service was good. Sadly it was so noisy it was impossible for us to have a conversation. Appreciate the staff have no control over this. It is a sad reflection on modern day society that parents/guardians do not control their children and the noise emanating from them which is to the detriment of nearby diners.
Very friendly. Superb food. Buzzy atmosphere - even on a Tuesday night! One of our foodie group described the risotto as the best he'd ever eaten. If Manchester was nearer to me I'd be a regular. Go! Very
Been many times before, was a lovely valentines meal, food was unfaultable and service was great. Food and drink was a little overpriced though, £25 for a steak without any chips or anything is a bit steep but it was lovely anyway, will go again!!
Really enjoyed our meal it was my partners 1st time in the restaurant and he was very impressed. There was a good atmosphere and the staff were attentive and friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
