You’re never that far away from a top Italian restaurant in Manchester, and if you’re out in Urmston, then you’re lucky enough to live near one of the very best in the city. San Giovanni is known in Salford and beyond as a dining destination that ticks all the boxes for a truly great Italian: from fresh pasta and risotto, sophisticated seafood starters and authentic antipasti to proper pizzas, meat and fish and even a few regional specialities thrown in to boot. If you take a trip to Lostock Road in the heart of Urmston and stop off at San Giovanni then you’re in for a real treat. Do book a table ahead of time, however as they’re well known and popular in the area, and thus can fill up quickly.
Eating out in Manchester is often dominated by the countless curry houses and the bright lights of Chinatown, but the Italian dining scene is also very impressive, and almost every district can boast an Italian restaurant of renown. San Giovanni on Lostock Road in Urmston stands out even among this competition, and they have elevated themselves above the usual red sauce and check tablecloth joints with a simple formula, dedicated to fresh ingredients and traditional, time honoured cooking techniques from the bel paese. Let us walk you through the menu that you will have the pleasure of selecting from when you visit San Giovanni.
The starters are the obvious place to begin, and the San Giovanni repertoire is big on the classics. Seafood is prominent, with fresh mussels and sauteed king prawns available, and the Roman speciality of spicy meatballs is always worth a try. Italian custom dictates that a pasta course must follow, and we’ll point you in the direction of the ravioli with lobster or the linguine amatriciana, with smoked bacon, tomato and a hint of chilli. The mains include some real big hitters, from veal escalope to prime fillet steak and slow cooked lamb in red wine. We could go on all day, but instead we’ll simply encourage you to book a table at San Giovanni and then mosey on down to Lostock Road to enjoy one of the best Italian restaurants in Salford.
The best restaurant we have experienced for some time. Portions are very large so be warned if you have the garlic bread AND olives youight not have room for a sweet. We certainly did not.
San Giovanni is a great local restaurant with reasonable prices. There was a good atmosphere despite it being mid-week in early January. Great service. Great location. Excellent food.
We love this restaurant, it's local and friendly .... The food is fresh and amazing flavours. The staff are attentive and always good service. I like to go early as it can get very busy.
Lovely meal and environment. Corporate entertaining was great and will be using them again for this purpose as well as some personal occasions. Fully recommend
Can't recommend San Giovanni's more highly. We have eaten here many times and as always the food was delicious and the service was excellent. All of the staff are so friendly and made us and our little one feel so welcome. Eating out with a young child can be daunting but the staff here went above and beyond to make our evening a special one .. thank you.
This is an excellent Italian restaurant. It was our first time at San Giovanni's and from the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. The food was excellent, as was the wine :) The owner came over to us as we were leaving which was a nice touch. If you are looking for a family, traditional Italian with the best food look no further
Have been to San Giovanni's many times before and it is a local favourite. The food is always top class, the staff attentive to customer needs and also very happy, we had a good banter with two of the staff last night which just added to the experience. Price is reasonable too. Highly recommended 😊
First time of eating here. The food was very nice (lasagne). Would definelty like to visit again to try another dish. Waitress was friendly. Only down side was it closes fairly early. Table booked for 8. Following a 3 course meal it was around 10 pm and we were the only people apart from another couple left in the restaurant. Which made us feel we needed to rush off. We have since been told that they have a disco upstairs but was not told about this.
Staff were lovely, warm and attentive. Starters good, San Giovanni Bruscetta and pate. Mains: Fillet steak brilliant. Only let down was that he bacon in the Amatriciana sauce was very fatty and chewy so had to be left. Overall would return though.
San Giovanni is an amazing place, food is exceptional, the service is always attentive and efficient with a warm family welcome every time. Have booked for Christmas Day as love the place so much
