Great atmosphere, lovely staff, wrath food and good value. Went with a friend who has coeliacs and the menu was clearly marked for that and other food requirements. Will definitely return.
All in all an excellent place to come for dinner. The food is brilliant and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. I highly recommend Shanes!
Really great food and in a lovely calm atmosphere. The Steak night on Thursday is excellent. Every time I've been here it has been enjoyable.
The waiter failed to tell us that several items on the menu weren't available before coming to take our order. He also forgot to bring us part of our order and we were forgotten for large periods of time leaving us with empty glasses. What we did eat was great! Service just needs to improve before I'd head back.
We had a great lunch last Sunday.Unfortunately quite a few selections weren't available including the fish.My partner is vegetarian so choice was limited. However we selected alternatives and those were great, shame starters and mains has to all come together as they were a chef down apparently. A convenient location and a good menu when available so we will return when next in the area.
Food was ok – nothing bad but not exceptional. The place was quite cold and I asked to move from a draught. Orange polenta cake was solid and dry.
Service was excellent. Food was inventive but very bland tasting. Chocolate fondant was incredible! No oranges for cocktails despite being on a road with 10 grocers
Really wanted to like this place based off of reviews. Had a reservation but due to apparent internet issues they didn't have it so we were told to wait 20 minutes. That was all fine, things happen and they were nice enough to give us a beer on the house. We did end up waiting 45 minutes though, and our starters quite cold in the middle when served so had to send those back, partner wasn't impressed with lack of veg options and given how basic the sides were, they were very over priced - one could get more interesting things for less elsewhere. Overall had the impression that kitchen had gotten lazy, with a good looking menu that really disappointed in reality. Service was lovely though!
Great food and a great price, the wine list was also very reasonable and the service was friendly would definitely recommend to others. We had the steak!
Great food in a lovely room. The food was the usual high standard. Pleased to see the signature croquettes on the menu. Service was very good. Our duck and partridge mains were perfect for New Year's Eve.
Great food and great wine. Pleasant surroundings and a very helpful waitress. The Negroni cocktail was superb and bit of a head-spinner. The menu although quite short has good variation to suit tastes
The starters and main course were so good we didn't mind how long it took to arrive. The puddings not so great - I would skip that course next time.
It was my husband's birthday so we decided to go to the Shane's. It was really relaxed and friendly atmosphere, food was great! we'll go again!!
Shane's was a great experience, the steak was perfectly cooked as i required. There a lot of average restaurants opening all of the time in Lower Clapton/ Hackney, so it is nice to discover Shane's that is somewhere I will go back too regularly on those all too precious nights out without the kids. We had a great time at Shane's, with all 5 of us partaking in the Thursday steak offer. The service was great, the wine was delicious and we will be back soon!
The food was delicious and refined. The ingredients were seasonal. The atmosphere and service were low key and charming. A very superior local restaurant and we feel rather lucky to have it near to us. It isn't cheap but it felt good value. We certainly didn't begrudge paying a fair price for a lovely meal.
We had a lovely evening at Shanes. The food was very reasonably priced, very good food and the service was great. Looking forward to the next time
Love Shanes for the intimate ambience, super friendly staff not to mention amazing food. The only disappointment was they ran out of a wine we wanted and there was a blocked sink in the bathroom. Apart from that it's always fantastic.
Super lovely staff, I really wanted to try the venison burger which had actually just come off the menu, but they kindly made it for me anyway :) and it was delicious!!!
Delicious fragrant food in very warm relaxed atmosphere Simple themes are given a new and innovative fresh appeal producing a very tasty plateful And the price is right
Excellent value for money at this tasty, tasteful and friendly place. The benches outside are a bit rickety, but inside everything is in order. Would fully recommend it.
Low key vibe, great, seasonal homely food, great service. Would go again! They are friendly and have a good value quality menu, simple, small atmospheric place.
Good 'real-human' service, not stuffy or pretentious, just as if we were having dinner round someone's house. The espresso martini's came in great glasses that even a manly man would appreciate and the steak was cooked to perfection.
We used to go for steak night every so often. They don't offer it anymore, however, it's still very reasonably priced. Service was friendly and food excellent. Always good to comeback.
I think Shane's is overrated and certainly overpriced. It's interesting food, no doubt about that, with some real inventiveness and a commitment to local produce – a little bit "Scandi" in its use of foraged ingredients (lots of lovely wild garlic, nettles, sea purslane, marsh samphire) and the presentation on wooden boards, etc. The word that characterises it, though, is meagre. I slightly resent paying £7 for a negroni that comes in a small primary school-style beaker. More generosity please! My starter of wild rabbit rillettes was fine, but the "pickled vegetables" comprised a single slice of vinegary courgette folded over. Come on! My family's starters were awful: over-salty, slippery smoked salmon pepared with beetroot; and a soft-shell crab in tempura batter, rubbery and with a chewy membrane of a shell beginning to form: not very nice and again meagre, with virtually no crab meat. The mains redeemed the meal (terrific chargrilled steak; a very meaty, rich and savoury dish of rolled, slow-roasted Muntjac deer with buttery dauphinoise potatoes; and perfectly cooked Muscovy duck breast with very more-ish wild garlic butter mash, the best thing on the plate) but the desserts were a bit so-what. My buttermilk and rosemary set cream with rhubarb and buckwheat shortbread stood out, with a very strong rosemary aroma and clean texture. But things like blood orange polenta cake are a little under-ambitious, the kind of thing you might bake at home. The wine we had was fabulous - a soft, raisiny Oltre Passo red from Salento, made with the primitivo grape. Controversially, I think Shane's does drink almost better than food. There's a lovely, curated short menu of whiskies, grappas and other spirits, so maybe go here for a few drinks and a really decent steak. The rest is trying too hard - and at about £120 for a family of three, not the bill you'd expect from a quite modest local bistro.
Amazing food and really lovely, attentive staff. My girlfriend lost her wallet and thanks to their help we were able to retrieve it. Will definitely be coming back!
Food was delicious and absolutely worth the price. Reservation is mandatory, because its a small Restaurant with lots of guests. We recommend a side order to the main course. Perfect service! Thank you.
The food was excellent, just the right quantity, beautifully presented and well balanced flavours. Ambience intimate and cool, service impeccable. Reasonably priced - just over £100 for four people, three courses and wine.
Great food - interesting menu and delicious, greta value, cute place, perfect service. Perhaps a tad quiet but probably as it was a sunny day. Would 100% go again
A delightful experience, with excellent food and service. Highly recommended!
Delicious meal in comfortable, welcoming venue. High level of cooking and reasonably priced. Service also excellent. Would recommend for a special meal out in Clapton.
The food was excellent, if a little small in size. It came promptly and the waitress knew about the dishes. I liked the length and pricing of the wine list - sufficient choice and very reasonable. The atmosphere was good for a Tuesday night. I would recommend Shane's highly.
A beautiful restaurant with a cosy atmosphere. Food was delicious. Great service!
It was a great evening, with really good food. The staff was very friendly. Generally good value for money. I guess i will be visiting again soon.
Lovely, cosy little restaurant, great food, good service. wine was 25% off when we went (Wed) - bonus! Would recommend the Tempranillo. Cheese was excellent but a little pricey for portion size - small gripe.
Another great experience here. It's the first time we tried the £10 steak night. You don't usually expect too much from these sorts of deals but the quality wasn't hampered.
One of the best meals I've ever had- will definitely be back for more. Steak deal is incredibly good value for money, and elderflower bellinis were a dream!
Fantastic food and drinks. Lovely service. Would recommend the Deer - lovely melt in the mouth and gorgeous flavours. Great small local restaurant with reasonable prices
Food is always excellent every time I've visited. The service is okay but it could be so much better. Suggestion of possibly getting a bell system to save the chef serving some dishes.
Lovely service, excellent food and fantastic wine selection - we had a really wonderful time and enjoyed the attention to detail and quality in each dish.
