About Tay Do Cafe

Tay Do Cafe is somewhat of a London institution when it comes to Vietnamese food. Since 2000, the family behind Tay Do have prided themselves on being one of the first (and best) Vietnamese eateries in Bethnal Green, specialising in South Vietnamese dishes such as hu tieu noodle soup and an array of produce from the grill that can be lovingly wrapped in rice paper. Not just that, diners can also enjoy classic street food flavours in the way of Vietnam staple, pho, as well zesty salads and seriously fresh seafood. The chefs here have over 30 years experience in preparing exceptional Vietnamese food with the highest quality ingredients. It’s fresh, it’s aromatic, it’s feel-good. Book ahead, however, because this hotspot on Kingsland Road is popular and can fill up.

Further Information

While London is certainly no stranger to unique, exotic and fantastic cuisine from all across the globe, it is truly special when you stumble across an authentic gem such as Tay Do Cafe. This Bethnal Green delight specialises in bringing the taste of Vietnamese cuisine to the city, and London locals are just loving it. Take your pick from street food staples, or go for a South Vietnamese specialty, while enjoying the relaxing atmosphere and delightful service, Mr Thanh Nguyen and Mrs Thanh Pham bring to their adored regulars, seven days per week.

Whether you’re in for a lunch time treat, or for a long evening with friends or family, Tay Do Cafe will tick all the right boxes. For lunch, we love nothing better than a warming and refreshing pho soup, either vegetarian or chicken, or the special chow mein brimming with chicken, pork and shrimp. For the night-goers, sampling their fresh summer rolls is a must, followed by perhaps the fried sea bass with salt, chilli and lemongrass, aubergine stirfried with beef, pork or chicken, or the Tay Do Cafe signature of chilli and lemongrass in coconut milk. Whatever your choice, you’re in for a treat so reserve a spot at Tay Do Cafe as soon as you can. You’ll find them in Bethnal Green, just along Kingsland Road.

Great food, great service. Love Vietnamese food, and have been there many times before. Fresh, good quality food, quickly served. Easy to find on the main street.

As always, this was delicious. It's buzzy, authentic and relaxed - perfect for a Friday evening! A bargain too, and the BYO is a bonus.

great little restaurant in Hoxton. Food is great and the BYO is just a nice add on. The dishes are really cheap and tasty. I recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap Vietnamese meal

We were 15 minutes late and they already given away our table. However, we could get another table for 5 with a little wait. On the Pho Mile, I like Tay Do because it is BYO with onlya pound a head for corkage. They are maybe a little more expensive than some of their competitors, but they make up for it with larger portions. Of the BYO places on this strip of Kingsland Rd, the Tay Do Cafe has the best acoustics. You don't have to shout to have a conversation, even on a crowded Saturday night. Standout dishes are char grilled lamb cutlets, and grilled goat from the starters. Deep fried whole sea bream with chilli and lemongrass and aubergine stir fried with chicken from the mains.

We arrived 15 minutes late to a reserved table, but the staff were kind enough to keep our table for us when I called to say we were running late. The food was decent - we enjoyed classic beef pho and a variety of rice noodle bowls, all of which came with fresh ingredients. Our only gripe was our server splashed one of us with pho soup when tidying the plates away, but didn't even bother apologising! He just made a joke and laughed it off - we found this extremely rude. So despite the tasty food, we don't think we'll be back unless service improves.

Delicious food, fresh and very very tasty. Excellent price and friendly service. Plus BYO is good. We had an excellent meal here, chose lots of starters to share, can recommend squid, ribs, noodles. Delicious.

Very tasty food. I had chicken in black beans sauce and it was delicious. Service was good as well, they are always a bit rushed with the customers but I guess I understand

Great food and service, cheap night out and no corkage fee! Just a basic setting so don't expect anything too fancy but the food is amazing.

Nice friendly restaurant, and they let us stay on our table all evening. Starters of squid and spring rolls were very good. My main was a little bland and could have done with more fresh ingredients (bun cha)

Generally good food across the menu but quality can be inconsistent when they're busy. Booking not usually required and B Y O B means it's great for a boozy gathering.

One of my favourite restaurant. Great food and good service. Really worth value. Aubergine dish is the ace, highly recommended. This is BYO restaurant, that makes even better.

Unfortunately we turned up and the party on our table was still eating and not had their main courses yet. We were then sent to their sister restaurant that had a large party and they run out of plates to serve food on!! The staff tried their best to accommodate both large tables.
