We went on a Sunday evening at 7pm.it had been a hot weekend so the pub had obviously been busy. Unfortunately, the garden looked a mess with uncleared tables and rubbish on the floor. We ordered our food. It turned up. We ate it and left. There was no service as such. The roast dinners felt and looked like they'd been hanging around. It was the end of the day, but if they choose to serve till 8 we shouldn't be made to fill we are a nuisance which is what it felt like. Very disappointing as we have eaten here slot but won't be rushing back.
First time here. Just superb from start to finish. Try this
Went for dinner this evening. Great service, atmosphere and food - thoroughly enjoyable!
Good food. Lovely room with great atmosphere. Great staff. Everything you could ask for for a Sunday Roast.
Was a lovely Sunday lunch, amazing Yorkshire’s! The parsnips could have been done a little more.
Beautiful food, great service, fabulous secret garden, an institution for good reason
Great atmosphere, staff and guests. All in all a great experience (and we won the cricket)
The waiter was rude and got our order wrong twice. We then had to wait forever to pay. Would not recommend.
Lovely food and atmosphere! Loved that the tennis was on :)
Had the ribeye and it was excellent. I love the secret garden and their house red is excellent value
Nice garden, good choice of ales. The food is great!!!
Great Sunday roast and atmosphere. Would recommend to any one
Sunday Roast was delicious as always. Their garden is gorgeous as well!
very enjoyable atmosphere. the staff are very friendly and welcoming
Veggie burger good. Fish and chips terrible. Forgot our starters. SErvice pretty poor.
There was plenty of space that gave us room to really enjoy our meal and the food was varied and well prepared. And the service from our waiter was excellent.
Relaxed pub. Delicious food. Attentive and engaging staff. Excellent garden
Fantastic sunday roast in great friendly place with excellent service
Great place with good variety of food to appeal to every type of diner.
One of the best roasts I've had in a long long time. The size of the cauliflower cheese was ridiculous!
The food was amazing, and the secret garden is super lovely, but the staff wasn't helpful and doesn't seem to care so much
The back garden is lovely, and the food is delicious !
Friendly staff , excellent service attentive without being intrusive . Food was absolutely brilliant Really very very good.
Lovely Food, Good Service. Easy to find. Relaxed Atmosphere. Clean.
Great experience, nice food so will be back very soon.
Went to lunch with a friend who is gluten-allergic - the staff could not have been more helpful! We managed to find some tasty food for her and had a really good time.
My boyfriend and I went for dinner and unfortunately it took an hour and 30 mins for our main course to arrive. I had to ask the waitor numerous times where it was and the first time he thought we’d already had it so I wondered whether it was never put through the system. Due to our table being booked at 8.30pm, it meant we didn’t eat our main course until 10pm by which time I had lost my appetite. We were given 50% off the food bill which was very kind and a shot of prosecco mixed with some sort of spirit, but overall it was a disappointing evening and I am reluctant to go back.
Great roast, nice open room. Hard to hear friends on such a large table.
Really good food and atmosphere. Staff seemed a little too busy but were more than helpful when we could grab their attention
Lovely Sunday roast but the roast potatoes had a funny taste, everything else was really nice
Had a really lovely time at the Avalon. Had a drink in the bar before going in to the dining room for dinner. When we arrived at 6pm it was fairly quiet but by 7pm the whole place was bustling. Our waiter was amazing. So lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks!
Lovely! Great roast dinner & prompt service, would recommend to all!
Consistently great every time we’ve been. Lovely atmosphere, great food and good customer service
Best pie I’ve ever eaten! Couldn’t fault it. Great service too.
A great pub! Great food, great wine and friendly staff
We enjoyed our visit overall. Just felt not a huge choice on menu and we had the Wagu Beef with sweet potato fries and winter slaw. Each element was fine I just felt that gravy does not really go with coleslaw, would have been better to serve vegetables with this dish perhaps.
Always great food and service in one of South London’s best pubs
The food and service were excellent but it was disappointing that the garden wasn’t open given what a glorious and warm day it was. This was not obvious from the website. The football also completely dominated and was on so loudly in every part of the pub (even outside in the courtyard) so we ended up leaving as soon as we’d finished eating and went to a different pub where we could actually talk!
It is a nice pub, however, the food we chose/had was not great: kids pasta with parmesan was definitely not parmesan (eg grated processed cheese/rubbery), rump steak was impossible to cut and overdone (well done not med rare), kids burger was too chargrilled/charred (kids could not eat them). Kids fish goujons were excellent, and the chips were fab (but definitely are not fries, as described - fat chunky chips, which kids were not keen on, but I loved).
Really great we usually bring our little pup along and the staff always make sure she is looked after. Our favourite Sunday roast in London.
The food is amazing at the Avalon but sadly the tip is a service charge tip and I dont feel like the service warranted that. We had to wait about 30 minutes to order our food and I had to ask someone rather than them approach us. There was no pork on the menu which we didn't know about before hand and no one checked in to see if everything was ok. The staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other and 'checking tables' then actually waiting on customers. Disappointing.
The food was very good and the service efficient. The only issue is the noise level. When there are lots of groups, it is very hard to talk and listen to the people at your table.
This was my first visit to this large, cosy pub in Clapham South. I was really impressed with the quality of the food and the nutella stuffed gnocchi I had for dessert were to die for. Service was a bit hit and miss, but it was a busy night so easily forgiven. I will definitely be back very soon!
Great atmosphere and lovely staff. Thoroughly enjoyed my dinner too which was served in their beautiful dining room! Highly recommended as a drinking pub or a dinner evening out with friends.
My friend and I had a lovely evening, the service was impeccable, and the food was a delight! The cherry on the cake was that although I had difficulty downloading my 50% off voucher, the staff kindly took it off of our bill anyway! We will definitely be going back to the Avalon real soon!
They had a pub quiz on in the restaurant area, so we were a bit sceptical that it would be loud but we needn’t have worried. We couldn’t hear a thing and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Great garden in the summer and great pizza, even cheaper if you takeaway. The inside is pretty spacious too. Would recommend a visit, good London pub.
Atmosphere great. Service friendly and efficient. My hake was a bit flavour-free but all the other dishes were excellent and we all enjoyed our linch
Avalon is my favourite - I’m there weekly! but this time there were a few niggles. chicken skewers recipe has changed and they now seem to be deep fried. On getting the bill we sat for a good half hour before eventually getting up to pay.
I’ve always had a great time at the Avalon but this time that was not the case. The service was awful and one of our main courses was cold. It’s a shame as it’s a great pub and the food menu is fab.
