Fantastic food and service. Lovely sat in the garden having drinks before our meal

The food was lovely as always but the service last night wasn’t the best. We had to ask for bread, our main course arrived just after we’d eaten it so it had definitely been forgotten. The waitress spilled bear down my brothers back as she was placing it on the table, fortunately that was the last drink and not the first. In contrast I was there for lunch on Tuesday the service was brilliant.

This is our third visit as we like the atmosphere and the high standard of food. Our starter of Whitby crab was tasty but truly tiny even by fine dining standards. Our main meal of Halibut was excellent, well cooked, presented and the right size. Only gripe was pairing wines with starters and mains. The wine with the black pudding was £19.00 for a 125ml glass,on the menu in low light with a flambuoyant numeral 9 looked like £10.00. our complaint was not well dealt with, and agreed it was slightly misleading. We would definitely go back, but not get involved with paired wines!!

Great night out, food was great! Nice wines to go with the courses. Had to ask for the wine to go with the starter as course was already served, but other than that, can't fault this. Will go again.

Overall only a good meal, which was disappointing as we had waited for this for a long time and hoped for more. The appetisers were the biggest let down followed by a good main course however first impressions count I suppose.

Outstanding food and service. The lady the was exceptional. One point which would have been nice is to have had some green vegetable within the selection.

Excellent food and wine, good service, good ambience. The only small fly in the ointment is that something that sounded like a talk radio station was being piped into the ladies bathroom and at the time my wife was in there the language being used by the presenter was a little colourful!

Consistently the best ‘gastropub’ (borderline fine dining) experience in County Durham. Environment, service, food and wine choices, presentation, quality, value for money - they do all the important things extremely well. A pleasure to dine there.

Overall very good. Set menu good value. Desserts excellent. Starters delicious but very small and the Whitby Crab starter is definitely not worth the price!

Excellent food, wine, menu, service, presentation and surroundings at a more than reasonable price. The weather was bitter but there are real fires and a welcoming bar. Would have loved to stay longer but driving was a challenge not to be mixed with alcohol.

Absolutely wonderful. We chose from a smaller menu and got 3 courses for £26 and it was worth it for the quality of the food. There was another menu where you could order a selection of dishes which looked really tasty as well. The place feels so cosy and there’s a real fire too. We’ll definitely be coming here again.

Very nice food, but small portions - started with risotto and had game pie as a main, and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Felt expensive for what we got.

Amazing food and wine, friendly service, cozy atmosphere....a fantastic experience! I can’t believe that we have a restaurant as good as the Bay Horse in a village as small as Hurworth....but I’m so glad that we do!

This restaurant has a lovely ambience. I remember it as a pub only and the alterations made, the decor etc are really tasteful and give it a nice feel. The service was excellent from entering to leaving and the food was beautiful. The rice pudding based dessert was to die for. Well worth a visit.

We had another first class evening at The Bay Horse, and yet again the food was excellent. The staff are always very helpful and most welcoming. It was rather noisy, this visit, but it is Christmas time and diners nearby were also enjoying their evening. We will be back . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Excellent meal and service, the staff were very acknowledging of our anniversary as well and put in a number of extra touches to enhance the special occasion. Steak was beautifully cooked and the dauphinois potato was different from what I’ve ever had. The “best of Bay Horse” desserts was also a great touch, allowing us to share and get to try a mini portion of each choice. The festive inspired rice pudding was particularly good. Overall a very positive experience and will return in the new year.

We’ve been several times to the Bay Horse and the food is always good as it was on this occasion. The service was very good and could not be faulted. However it was extremely noisy - due to a large party standing at the bar - so much so that it was hard to have a conversation. The table next to us was so close that we could easily have been sitting with them and they were shouting to each other in order to make themselves heard. All in all not what we’ve come to expect and given this was the only time my wife and I could find to go out prior to Christmas it was more than a bit disappointing. I’d certainly think twice about booking there in the near future given that it is not inexpensive.

Nice pub/restaurant in nice village. Very good food off a nice lunchtime menu du jour offering g really good value. An addition I enjoyed is the chance to enjoy some fine wines by the glass, a great idea for lunch time.
