Im sure they have changed ownership - food wasn't presented as nice as in the past - biggest gripe was cost of childrens meal - £9.95 for 3 chicken nuggest chips and Beans. Also service was poor - not once were we asked if our food was ok?

Lovely welcome and good service. Food was tasty but could have been hotter. It seemed that maybe it had been standing around too long.

The food was good and the service good until about 9pm when we were still finishing drinks and dessert they turned the music off and started mopping around the bar area. We were the last two people there and it really made us feel like they wanted us to leave despite the fact it's advertised that they serve food till 9.15pm anyway. Very disappointed with this aspect as the bill was around £80 for two so would expect higher standards regarding this to compliment the standard of the food.

Food OK but not amazing. Menu limited - especially for veggies. Needs someone to really shake things up???

We have visited twice in one week and both times the food was fantastic. We had a Sunday lunch and a then dinner during the week. The chicken dish on the dinner menu is recommended. I have not tasted anything that good for a long time! Staff were lovely and friendly. Thank you!

Food was first class but service was a little slow, although the staff appologised for the delay and were very friendly..... the food was definitely worth the wait we will definitely go back.

Lovely food, on the special side, nice little touches to the plate. Wonderful old coaching house tastefully decorated. Great value for the quality. We’ll be back a bit quicker than the 10 year gap since our last visit.

Excellent food and drink with a relaxed atmosphere and charming staff. Frankly if you put this set up in a metropolitan setting there would be a queue. Can't wait to return

Nice food, service let it down. Menus took 30 minutes to arrive. We weren't sure what some of the menu dishes were, and neither did the waitress.

Finally got round to eating at The Crown as we've held back going because of the mixed reviews. The reviews don't lie as they must be having good and bad nights...and we clearly went on a bad one. For a Saturday evening we were all disappointed with the lack of atmosphere, the very limited menu choices, no specials and not a single dish that jumped out as being chef inspired. As a previous reviewer stated £15 for a basic plate of fish and chips isn't going to encourage anyone to come running back. As the food that we had, we were all underwhelmed and therefore felt overcharged for a very disappointing dining experience. Needless to say we won't be going back to The Crown at Roecliffe.

Met friends here for lunch and had a table for 5 reserved. A chaotic reception on arrival. Took ages to get 3 very expensive drinks and had to ask twice where our reserved table was. The menu choice was poor and very limited, also expensive and not the menu on the website. £15 for fish and chips! The Festive Roast Turkey was the most tasteless turkey I have ever eaten and look like a commercially produced turkey roll; and the trimmings consisted of a white chipolata, with a slither of bacon and a slice of something white and slimy that I assumed was stuffing. We had to ask for cranberry sauce. No one asked how our meal was and no-one bid us farewell on departure. A very poor experience that we don't intend to repeat.

Oh dear what a let down. The service was slow, the menus not a patch on former offerings and the meal decidedly average pub food.

Disappointing drop in atmosphere/ overall standards since change in ownership. Food fine but no longer outstanding. Service slow / amateurish and the character, quirkiness has gone.

There is a nice atmosphere in this dining pub. The Crown offers an interesting menu with plenty of choice. The food we ordered was cooked to a high standard. The portions were generous and the service was very friendly and helpful. We we nicely surprised with the bill at the end which seemed very reasonable. All in all, a very pleasant evening out and highly recommended.

Disappointing overall. After being seated and given menus it was only when the waiter returned to take our food order that we were told that they had sold out of 2 dishes. Pie and moussaka. Starters were lovely. Main course less so. The halibut had a very salty crust and was over cooked and dry, it’s accompaniments were cold. As were all the main plates. We were not asked how everything was until we were nearly finished. When the waitress was told about the problem with the fish she left the table in a hurry and nothing more was said about it. When the bill arrived we had paid full price and what was more upsetting no apology was made at all. our first visit was perfect, after this visit we shan’t be hurrying back.

The food was good but the service let them down. Apparent there was a large wedding party in the adjacent function room and they were a chef down so we waited simply ages for our first course and then some time for our mains. The manager apologised profusely and gave most restaurant diners a discount voucher for our next meal with them. They also coped well with my daughters food allergies. I understand this long established restaurant is under new management so I guess they just underestimated the problems of serving a wedding party simultaneously with a full restaurant. The slow service somewhat spoiled the evening but otherwise we were quite happy.

This was our second time visiting here, We had fantastic service from hazel, as well as from other members of staff. The food was brilliant. The only down side was we had a couple stood around our table walking up and down the restaurant the whole time we were there and staring over at our table. i believe they were wanting to book a table for another occasion but this was very disruptive and made us feel very uncomfortable and i could tell others in the restaurant felt the same way.

Still a nice venue and food was pleasant and good value. Staff friendly and attentive on what was a cold and miserable day outside. Perhaps that was why it was less busy than on other Sunday lunchtimes that we've been?

Under new management and the previous high standards of service haven’t remained unfortunately. However the food was excellent still. It wouldn’t take much to smarten up the staff, ensure tables are cleared timely and the right meals delivered.

This was a great disappointment! I have lunched here twice previously this year and been impressed so my husband and I decided to take a friend there for lunch as a 70th birthday treat. Not a treat! The menu was very restricted compared to usual due to staffing issues and 2 weddings this w/e. There were a few sandwich options, a few salads , steak and chips and another option I have forgotten. My friend ordered a roast pork sandwich and requested no apple sauce. It was very fatty and loaded with apple sauce. My husband's prawn and avocado salad was not very tasty. My steak was lovely, quite rare, which I like. I was not asked how I like my steak so good job I am not a 'well done' girl! There was an offer of free puds after reporting the apple sauce issue. We declined this as we did not want pudding. Drinks were free, however this did not make up for spoiling a special occasion!

Sadly the sirloin steak was not the best. It was advertised as 28 day aged - it was very red ( if 28 day aged it would have been dark) but also very fatty, sinewy and chewy! Sorry but you need to change meat supplier. Apart from that the atmosphere was very good as were the starters ( Ham hock terrine and Thai fish cakes).
