The meal was tasty and well cooked - I went for the Duck Leg which was tender but with crispy skin and husband had a hearty lamb pie which he also enjoyed. There was a slight error with extra drinks bring out in the bill but that was quickly and apologetically rectified.

I have gone to the garden house for a while now as they are known for their Sunday Roast however the price has gone up and the quality and quantity of the food has gone down!!! Very poor for the price! I will not be going again!

They have changed the menu but not for the better in my opinion. There are no specials. We were given menus with some very bizarre things on it including stuff we had never heard of. Then two minutes later the chef came out and took the menus away and provided yet more new menus. Seems there had been spelling and auto correct issues on the last one. The food was not as good as the last time. The menu felt mixed up.

Meal very good, my son reckons it is the best Sunday Lunch in Durham. Ice-cream unusually good. Seats in conservatory not comfortable, might bring a cushion next time.

The food in the Garden House was excellent as usual and the service very friendly. A great choice of beers and wines are also stocked

The food is always good and was served quite quickly. We had starters and mains and were out in 45 minutes. Shame they don’t do mashed potatoes on a Sunday.

Perfect Sunday dinner. Could not fault it except I would advise not to go too late on a Sunday as some food was unavailable .

We had a fabulous meal here, with attentive staff and in pleasant surroundings. Sunday lunch full of so many scrumptious ingredients. Very good value. Can fully recommend.

Great food, ate late on Sunday afternoon so a few dishes had sold out. Would book again but earlier to avoid disappointment of dishes not being available.

Wonderful warm welcome by waitress then waiter who went through specials and menu. Good choice, fab service, lovely atmosphere! Reasonably priced for quality of food! We’ll be back.

Service was a little slow quality of food was good but not as good as it could have been with just some small improvements. A little on the pricey side.

We really like this place but have to say we were disappointed on this visit. Service was quite slow and things were forgotten (like having to wait for replacement cutlery between starter and main whilst staring at main course served). At £15 for a Sunday lunch I think service should be better. Another of my dislikes in most pubs restaurants is to serve the main course and then ask if I'd like any sauces - so I'm sat waiting for that to be brought too. Why not ask if I want any sauces or gravy before the main course is served so it's all ready and hot when served to me. Please learn.

Good quality food, lovely atmosphere with helpful staff. Not an extensive menu with plenty of fish on the menu, however no chicken dishes. Will certainly be back

Sunday dinner (had the beef) was perfection. Had to park a good distance away but I forgot about that once I was tucking in.

Food was great and we all enjoyed our meals, however service was poor. Both waitresses were more interested in talking to their friend at the next table. One girl was very rude when asked what the accompaniments were with the Chicken and we had to ask 3 times for an additional drink only to be told rather curtly that the beer was not yet cool. If an explanation had been given and an option of another drink this would have been fine but the tone and manner were out of line. Will not be back regardless of how much we enjoyed the food.

Good food and good service .Only complaint is that we would prefer smaller Yorkshire puddings.Possibly a House wine could be offered slightly less expensive than those on offer .

Food excellent. Ambiance nil The conservatory seemed bare and hard uncomfortable chairs. If we had been given a table in the main restaurant the score would have been much higher

My 4th time at The Garden House Inn and the 3 first time perfect food and good service. One of the chef's got hurt but they "forgot" to tell us so we waited very long time for our Starter and they forgot one of them. The main course took even longer before it came and we had to ask for it 3 times and that was when they told us they had an issue with the Chef. One of the main courses was also missing. We were given a bottle of red wine for free. We asked them to resolve the bill but they never returned. They refunded the drinks and the 2 meals that we didn't get. The whole experience and lack of professionalism turn the whole evening into a very unpleasant experience.

Staff could be a bit more welcoming on arrival, know a lot more about the food, not say that oysters would make them gag. And the outside looks quite shabby

My friend and I decided to opt for small portions of dishes we'd never tried before. Part way through our first three dishes (and a free snack) we realised that we had under-estimated how filling the dishes were, and that we had well-and-truly over-ordered. We mentioned this to our waitress, half-expecting: 'Well, loosen your belts; I'm bringing two more'. She returned after speaking to the chef and told us they hoped we would enjoy the rest of the meal we were eating and not to worry about the remainder of the order which was now cancelled. Overall, we had a very pleasant evening at The Garden House - a tasty, interesting meal for a very reasonable price, in simple, attractive surroundings with a relaxing atmosphere sustained by friendly, helpful staff. I will be going back soon.

Really like this place, really good food and nice atmosphere. Some 'pub grub' but a more adventurous menu choice too. We've been regulars for a while now and don't expect that to change.

Poor service. Seated us but then did not take drinks order. Meals did not get served together. Food was OK, but nothing special. Not really worth the money. There are far better dining experiences in the area, at a lower cost.

Very nice food and pleasant staff. The Rhubarb Swiss roll was divine. The menu has enough options without being too long which in my book is a sign of a good restaurant - understanding that less is more! (Having said that portion sizes are also satisfactory)

I like the menu and the food is great. The service was all right. Definitely go back for the food, may be the waiter wasn’t in the good mood last night!
