The Gate Islington - OLD

Wonderful, what a treat to have so many choices on a menu that I can eat. The menu was really creative and interesting as well as so beautifully presented!

Really nice veggie food well presented. The restaurant is quite big, on two levels, in an old pub. Tables not too close together. Toilets were not the best, only two unisex for whole Restsurant so had to queue!

Very impressed, nice atmosphere, great food beautifully presented, good service. Couldn't be better for proximity to Sadler's Wells. Just one quibble - coffee arrived well before dessert, we were obliged to drink it with dessert before it was stone cold. Lesson learnt - don't order coffee until you've eaten the pud. This notwithstanding, we'll be back.

An excellent vegetarian restaurant. Enjoyed by meat eaters as well.

Went for the first time on Friday and I can tell you it will not be our last! The food is amazing (and I am a proud carnivore). The three of us shared the Mezze starter and an extra onion tart to start and two aubergine schnitzels and the mushroom risotto cake for our mains. The onion tart was exceptional and in a league of its own-nothing like your normal nothing tart. Both the aubergine and the risotto were so delicious and filling I can't imagine trying anything else. Polenta chips were also shared and just the perfect amount to fill us all up! Great meal!

Amazing Vegetarian food across all entrees; starters, main and desserts. This restaurant is definitely a treat, it never disappoints. The service was great too, the only thing missing is a bigger venue so that it can accommodate more people!

excellent food and presentation, our 3rd time at the gate, always a new inventive menu when we go. Service attentive and excellent as always. I am a big meat eater but recommend thus restaurant to all my friends

Front of house reasonably accommodating. Weirdly, some shouting heard from the kitchen and our starters were left on the pass for some time before delivery to the table. The main course came out too quickly after the starter, it was therefore not a relaxed enough ambience. The food was very good but lacked seasoning. I would recommend but with provisos.

My meal was well presented and very tasty. The restaurant was buzzing. The waitresses were busy yet still attentive to all. The Pinot Grigio was good too!

High standard of service and interesting menu, as usual. We were warmly greeted and seated. The staff always appear happy and are attentive and well trained. Our meal was timely served before our short walk to Sadler Wells.

Great food and service will definitely be back again thank you.

Very noisy, difficult to hear properly across the table where we were, prefer giving tips, do not like the principle of service charge and the feel bad factor when declining it.

I make sure I eat at The Gate whenever I go to Sadlers Wells. If I lived next door, I feel sure I would be vegetarian by now. It has a friendly, buzzy atmosphere and is serious about its creative veggie menu. It is consistently good, varies its menu and makes sure you get out on time if you are pre-theatre. Last night a friend and I just shared a mezze platter starter and had a Thai salad, both of which were fresh and with interesting flavour combinations. It is popular,so best to book.
