The Go Down Restaurant

Excellent service welcome and food as usual. This is my 8th visit over 8years a favourite when I visit York the early bird meal is value for money that you really shouldn’t miss .The menu is varied and food well presented.

The Go Down is always our preferred restaurant when we visit York and it never lets us down. Great food, great service and great value. We miss the Bakewell Tart though. Please bring it back!

Excellent food. Very friendly and efficient service. The 2 or 3 course options represent great value for money. Recommended wine of good quality and reasonably priced. Ideally located for the Grand Opera. We'll be back!

Menu had change from last time we were their but still nice the only thing was our hand cut chips were very dry & my sticky toffee pudding was really hard so could not eat it they did take it off the bill

We chose to eat from the set menu which seemed to offer good value. Both our starters were excellent however we both chose to have the filet steak with a pepper sauce for our mains which sadly was a let down given we paid a £7.50 pp supplement for the pleasure. Both desserts were ok and the wine we chose was excellent. Service was very good so overall certainly give the restaurant a try but a bit hit and miss for us.

Lovely evening. Food and service excellent. Something for everyone here. Couples and groups catered for. Located in town. Handy for buses or taxis or to continue your evening at a local hostelry.

Fab food and lovely staff as always. Been many times and never disappointed. Pauline is a lovely hostess. We will definitely be going back again.

This restaurant is a find! So convenient for the Grand Opera House, York boat and the shops. The staff were very welcoming and the ambience pleasant. We had the early bird menu which was good value and tasty. We will go again.

Great food large portions flavours of the sauces fantastic staff friendly and professional and not over priced wish we were local but will call again when visiting York.

Everything was excellent , the food was exceptional , service good and atmoshphere enjoyable , would definitely book again,the restaurant is easy to get to , very central .

Had the fixed price menu which was not only good value, but also really good. Service was good, but atmosphere a little lacking. Well worth eating here.

Hearty portions, welcoming flexible staff. The food was ordered off the fixed menu, and was good value. Would hope though that there will be more light options as we enter the summer months.

Lovely well cooked food. Very good ambiance. Fresh produce. What’s not to like. Always made welcome. Good place to meet friends and enjoy a very good meal.

Excellent meal and good service. we had 3 courses black pudding starter then steak and sea bass all excellent. creme brullee and sticky toffee pudding which my husband said was best he had ever had

Nice independent restaurant with very good food and friendly service. Not cheap, but definitely worth a visit. I liked the fact that there is a choice of sizes for steaks, which were excellent.

This is a great restaurant with a sophisticated style. Impeccable customer service and excellent quality food. The Yorkshire pudding starter is a must and the warm loaf is a lovely idea.

Fabulous meal at the Go Down! Charming staff, excellent service. Food exquisite, my second visit to the Go Down... just as good as my first visit. Excellent,reasonably priced evening out with friends.

No frills restaurant... great food great service. Cost not too bad either. Steak cooked to perfection ....if being picky potatoes slightly over cooked otherwise Highly recommended.

Excellent Do try the Venison pie so tender and tasty as was the duck as was the Pèa risotto. Ours starters were also all very good, my husband raved about the fritto, even the salad - goats cheese beetroot etc was good. The young staff were excellent too, efficient and very pleasant. The restaurant itself is OK, I would perhaps preferred more ambient lighting and perhaps white tablecloths but thats just me! The quality of food offered should fill this restaurant every night.

Fresh food, great service, lovely ambience. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant to couples and parties. Very good value especially the set menus. Available up to 9.30. Very generous.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere service was quick complamntary bread was lovely we had steak and would have been nice to have had onion rings and maybe peas and wasn't expecting a service charge

This was probably our best meal in York in the last 5 years. We enjoyed the attentive service, excellent food and the beautifully clean and pleasant surroundings.

Friendly and personal service, fantastic food and a welcoming atmosphere. We had 8oz fillet steak and lamb and both agreed they were the best meals we'd eaten out! Complimentary bread and dipping oils was also lovely and a nice touch.

The food was very good and service very quick were able to get to theatre in good time. Can recommend, very reasonably priced and a good choice of dishes.

High quality food, presented well and very tasty. Staff were attentive and friendly and as a result I felt my birthday meal was made to feel special.

The quality of the food was excellent and well presented on the plate. The staff were attentive and informative. At no time did we feel under pressure to make choices or restrict the time we spent in the restaurant. A very enjoyable experience. We will go again.

Excellent food, brilliant staff. Wish we could have stayed longer, but the show we were going to see was soon to start. Next time will stay longer . by the way the celery apple and Stilton soup was to die for .
