Excellent meal and superb service. I would highly recommend this pub. We will definitely be returning for another meal at some point. Menu choice is very good.
Friendly helpful staff. There is not a lot of choice on the menu but the food is good with interesting options such as the lamb dish.
I booked a table for lunch to have a meeting with colleagues driving up from Leeds. The food and service were excellent and the surroundings, inside and outside, were conducive to productive discussions. We were under no pressure to hurry and sat outside to finish our meeting. The Horse and Farrier is a great ambassador for Cumbria, both of my colleagues said they planned to come up with family and stay for a weekend. Thanks.
Warm welcome, but quality of food has deteriorated in recent months. Two of us ordered Spanish Paella - it was more a risotto than paella, sadly.
The food was very good and the staff were very friendly - keeping our 3 year old entertained every time they came to the table.
booked on line for 8pm, table was made ready sooner, very friendly service and a good meal, i am happy to recommend to any of my friends
Excellent food. Excellent service. Would recommend it. We booked on the day and the staff were very friendly and helpful with our wine, beer and food selection
Brilliant food as always but service was a bit slow and the problem in the kitchen resulted in us waiting an hour between starters and mains.
Traditional country pub. Good choice of dishes. Slow cooked pork was good, we also enjoyed our puddings, portions are big! The staff were all friendly. The bar area is dog friendly so that's handy if you're in the area walking or on holiday. Would eat there again.
Very friendly, good choice of interesting food, good beers, nice atmosphere. Thank you. Good location for walking the northern fells and the northern part of the Hellvelyn ridge.
Very good choice of meals, well cooked and served, good and attentive staff. Third time we've dined here, we'll be back. Just a short diversion off the main A66 in the village.
Olde world pub,Very good ,excellent service, great food , although very busy on a bank holiday weekend still great service and food was lovely really enjoyable
A pleasant country inn, which served good food in convivial surroundings. Staff were friendly and efficient. Helpful when we mentioned a shellfish allergy. Good to be able to book online.
An excellent meal very tasty! I would recommend the pub to friends, the staff are very welcoming and it has anot amazing view below Blencathra.
Lovely food and lovely place. Very welcoming. Me and my partner had a great evening. Lovely ambience and staff very helpful and nice. Definelty go again
We have been periodic visitors to The Horse and Farrier for many years. On this occasion, as previously, we received friendly and efficient service. The food was well-cooked, plentiful and reasonably priced. The surroundings might benefit from a little upgrading, but not at the expense of their undoubted character and history. Well worth a visit for the food. Have never stayed there, so can't comment on that aspect of the service.
Great service and delicious food. good variety on the menu with something to please everyone. Beers served well and a good choice of gins available.
Great welcome and really good food. We were there for lunch so ordered a sandwich plus a side order of chips. Couldn't finish the chips due to the generous sandwich with its salad, coleslaw and crisps. Shame as the chips were chunky, crisp and tasty.
Great atmosphere.. good service. Food was tasty and presented well. My husband didn't particularly enjoy his sea bass but don't think he read the menu properly!! Only issue I had is that your website did not confirm my booking or acknowledge it so I had to spend extra time checking with the restaurant.. don't think they were too happy with your service
Excellent service, met almost at the door, ushered to our table and waited on most efficiently. Very friendly courteous staff. The food here is first class. Great atmosphere in Olde Worlde Lakeland pub.
Excellent meal, brilliant ẃine and very courteous staff. All in a very busy restaurant. Highly recommended. Will definitely return. Don't know what else to say to make up the words!.
Excellent food & service. Always worth a visit but limited to Jennings Real Ale. The snug is an atmospheric area to eat & always warm.
Food good,a little expensive, very busy ,slightly cramped , table on a slope and a bit uneven ,had to use beer mats to stop the table rocking
Home cooking, with big portions. Belly pork was dry and crackling wasn't crispy, Sea bass was cooked purfectly and Fish & chips were very nice, all veg was good. Beer could've been pulled better, with a head, southerners would like it.
Booking on line great. Food selection excellent and very tasty. Service slow but only because two staff were off sick. Just had more beer and conversation. Would recommend.
Bustling even on a cold, sleety March evening with locals and visitors, plus hounds. A warm welcome, assisted by a hearty open fire. Excellent selection of the best Jennings brewery has to offer and a broad wine offering, by the glass or bottle. Reliable, well cooked, pub grub - slow cooked lamb shoulder was succulent & fell off the bone plus daily specials. No surprise it's always busy - booking essential in the evening during the summer months - but our regular trips to the area wouldn't be complete without a trip to the Horse & Farrier.
Excellent service, friendly staff. Good choice of menu & superb food! Would definitely recommend & will most definitely be returning when next visiting the area. A+++++
We were very impressed with both the service and the food! Every meal we ordered was delicous and very reasonable! We couldn't recommend it anymore.
Been a few times for food on our annual pre-Christmas family weekend in Keswick. Was very busy so had to wait an hour for table despite having booked. 3 of our party had the roast lamb which was very grissly and had to be left. However rest of food was lovely and the staff were very friendly. Very cosy atmosphere. Will definitely return.
Booked the Horse and Farrier for a meal on the 5th March to celebrate my 50th birthday with my wife and parents. We've been here many times and always had a fantastic meal which is the reason I booked it. What a disappointment it turned out to be. The menu was very limited and when we arrived (at 6:30pm) we were informed they had no fish, only 1 roast lamb 3 pork and 2 beef roasts. I ended up choosing the gammon which was very average. My parents had the pork which was okay but so disappointed that the lamb shank was not on the menu as that was what they were hoping for. We then ordered desserts. This is where it got worse !! We ordered the ginger sponge with lime syrup (something I have enjoyed there many times). What arrived looked like sticky toffee pudding, in fact the waitress even thought that is what it was. We were then told it was the ginger sponge. We tried it and couldn't taste any ginger and it was covered in a caramel/toffee sauce, not lime syrup. We sent it back and another waitress then came and apologised and said that they buy the desserts in and the lid of the dessert said ginger sponge. I couldn't believe that they bought the desserts in as previously they were home made. At this point we just asked for the bill as we were extremely disappointed with the whole experience. I don't know if the Horse and Farrier has changed hands but it is nowhere near the quality it was last year, and that includes the staff as well as the food. It is such a shame as it was one of our favourite places to eat in the Lakes but after last Sunday 's experience we won't be back.
Excellent food & service. Friendly & warm welcoming staff. We had a party of 10 and nothing was too much trouble, 10 out of 10
Great place for a Sunday lunch, dinner or any other meal. Welcoming staff, cosy surroundings and a nice atmosphere. The fish and chips are fantastic and the sticky toffee pudding ain't too shabby either. Worth a visit!
Nice food very friendly staff an easy place to find with ample parking we will be back next time we are in the Lake District
Good food and service in a cosy traditional setting. Some unusual specials as well as more expected mains and desserts. Pub full Sunday night and busy Thursday evening.
My husband had booked here for my 50th birthday, a weekend in the Lakes. The scenery is so beautiful and we were blessed with the weather. We were staying here for one night. I cannot praise this place enough, everyone is so friendly and helpful. The meal was excellent, service exceptional, we had booked a table in advance & I would recommend doing that. Overall our stay here was second to none and I would highly recommend a stay here.
The service was great the food was really excellent. The venue was old and very homely whilst being clean and warm. We would certainly recommend the pub to our friends
Great pub food in a lovely atmosphere, with a nice pint of Jennnings to wash it down. A bit draughty near the door, but then it was a wild night outside!
Excellent all round, food, service and atmosphere. The lamb is to die for. Would recommend to any one. Forget Keswick would come here every single time
Food is fine. Service a bit hit and miss. Table squeezed between two others so more enforced proximity than we would normally like. Overall though no real complaints -just ok.
Great ambiance. It was warm and cosy after a good day out on the fells. The service was very good and the food was tasty
