Canteen food. Garlic bread not garlic. Salads not Italian. Soup not chicken creme. Pizza and pasta good. Risotto made with long grain rice WTF! Fruit with ginger wine had only a sugary taste with no flavour. Disappointing.
If there was a 10 we definitely would have given that. Amazing service, amazing food and amazing atmosphere. Could not recommend The Jolly enough. Amazing.
Fabulous experience, homely Italian cooking , nothing fancy just filling and cheap. Great atmosphere and pleasant staff.Decor is dated but quirky and stuck in the 70's .... hope it remains that way.... all part of its appeal!
Very busy restaurant , we thought that being this busy would impact on the quality of the food. How wrong we were ,the food was delicious ,the staff friendly , go, you won't be disappointed.
We had really great friendly service. The food was also great and very reasonable price wise. A really good atmosphere and not rushed to get out so we could take our time.
Very retro restaurant, loved it. But, my soup was not hot, more under warm. The main course heat wise was warm. The food itself was exceedingly good for a lunchtime menu of under £7.00. I chose liver and bacon and the liver was cooked to perfection. This restaurant needs to keep its retro flavour. Get dishes hot. Not use frozen veg. It’s soup was homemade, and tasted yummy, my liver dish was amazing. The pears were good too. Could have done with ice cream. But remember this was under £7.00 . Tell them keep the he good work up! With the food places round it hem they could do a amazingly. I am a local
This quaint restaurant has a 70s feel about it. The walls are decorated with Italian views. The place mats are famous Edinburgh landmarks. Vito, the Man, is a great guy. The two young waitresses had a lovely manner. For value for money, superb grub!
Went for dinner prior to show in the Playhouse which is only a 5 minute walk away. Excellent value, quick service, perfect for pre theatre
Been going to the Jollyfor over 30years. A very busy family run Italian. Homemade pizza cooked in a traditional wood burning oven, always fantastic. Shabby decor adds to its charm and atmosphere and lovely staff.
Great food and service as always. Hassle free exeperaince, staff polite and do what they can to ensure a great evening. Can spend a short time or all night, you don't feel like you are getting pushed out. Happy to recommend to friends and family...any excuse is good enough to eat here.
Nice place, bit dated and I wasn't sure they were really expecting us at midday on a Sunday but they got it together. Overall pretty good.
Good value for money and friendly efficient staff. Ask to see the three course dinner menu at £10.95 as it is a great deal but menu sometimes has to be requested.
Very friendly atmosphere and not a big restaurant so it added to the experience. The food was good and not too expensive. I will return.
This fab authentic Italian never ceases to please. Great food great service. Your best to book as alway busy which is a good sign. Will be back.
First time we have been here for lunch. We were looking for somewhere to eat at the start of our holidays when my wife remembered that they did a set 3 course lunch for £6.50 so given that we love their a la Carte menu we did not think ml this was a gamble. 3 garlic bread starters 3half pizza half pasta mains and 3 ice cream plus 3 pepsi colas all for under £25.00 what's not too like.
Great food great staff great atmosphere and all for a very reasonable price. What's not to like. Family meal out means going to the Jolly restaurant.
Excellent service, quick, clean, friendly and amazing food and deals. Definitely recommend and will be back. Everything was served hot, great flavours and excellent choices of food. Me and my partner had a great experience and more to come.
Food was very good. Value for money and lots of choices from the menu. Children were able to get slightly smaller portions. Staff very pleasant.
Close to theatre, so ideal for meals before or after performance, great atmosphere extensive menu pleasant staff , no complaints, best to reserve table as very popular, will defo return!
Food was fine service was crap waited 1 hour for a starter and a drink could be better organised if your going for a theatre meal better being there 3 hours before
Great value for money. Restaurant was busy but great service from the staff. Would definitely visit here again, would recommend to friends also. First class.
Was ok, food was not as hot as could be. Surroundings bit dated but relaxed atmosphere, toilets need to be upgraded, and kept clean. Staff were lovely.
was very busy waited 50minutes for our order, but every thing was okay afer that, food was good, service good thankyou very much, toilets clean
We really enjoyed our meal here, and the staff and ambience, as always; music could do with being improved, though - perhaps some classical Italian?
Excellent. Saturday lunch. Very fast service. Good house wine. Overall the meal was astonishing value. Have been a regular customer for over 25 years. Charlie
I have gone to the Jolly once a week for the last 20 odd years. I think that is a pretty good recomendation is it not.
Had an enjoyable meal in the Jolly from the £6.40 a head 3 course meal ,For the money good value and quick service fine for lunch.
Great value for money and great staff .Very busy again last night which tells its own story. Food once again piping hot the staff did everything we asked with minimum fuss
Lovely food! Good choice available. Very reasonable prices. Staff and service very good I would highly recommend a visit. Centre of the town so very handy!
Great food - great service. Good value for money. Love the fact you can get half and half - pizza & pasta as I can never make up my mind. Thus way you get both.
We have been visiting The Jolly regularly for the past 30 years and always enjoy the experience - especially the friendliness of staff and their 'banter'. However, on this latest occasion we felt that neither the food nor the service was up to the usual standard: the normal 'sparkle' was missing. This latest experience will not prevent us from going to The Jolly again in future, but has slightly tarnished our view of the restaurant. We would still recommend it to friends but perhaps no longer unreservedly.
Great welcome and very friendly staff. Table waiting for us when we arrived. Good value for money with good portion size but food not outstanding.
Service slow , wrong meal delivered, and late ,drinks order was forgotten, but apart from that not bad ,, still only 2 marks Dont think will go back
Enjoyed our visit to Holly's. We always visit Jolly's when we are in Edinburgh. We like the family atmosphere and food is good too. All staff are friendly and helpful.
Perfect meal - very tasty and decent portions - great service - make you very welcome - and pay attention - will definitely book again.
As usual the food was great as was the friendly service with Vito leading the way. Our whole family love this charming restaurant and we look forward to our next visit.
Excellent. Quality, quantity, friendly and affordable. Be recommended for couples, friends and families. The pizzas are huge and delicious. The only negative point is the music, maybe a little loud.
Don't seem to have kids menu. Had to order adult meal what a waste but food good. Would go again but will share with kids
