Lovely food, especially good gluten free fish and chips 😁. Good atmosphere and very friendly, helpful waitress. Will definitely return 👍
Great service and fine food with a varied menu to chose from.
I’m a regular and staff are always friendly and on the ball
Absolutely delicious food - highly recommend the Chip Shop Platter and the Lamb Pie, mash and gravy (proper pie, not the disappointing wafty-topped type). Great service, friendly people who clearly take pride in their pub. Good beers too and 0% Guinness too if you fancy it. We'll return again without a doubt.
Great service, friendly atmosphere and amazing food! Couldn’t fault it.
We have been coming here for the past 4 years and we have always had excellent food and service
£150 4 adults 1 child Sunday lunch 2 pints of cider 3 coke’s food was ok not great bit expensive
Great welcome and lovely food. We would definitely go again
We had a lovely lunch and the staff was really nice, great pub will have to go again sometime
A friendly pub with very good food and beer. Cheerful and happy staff. Lovely surroundings. What more do you want.
Lovely place to meet up with friends or family. A very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Varied choice of dishes on the menu plus a nice selection on the specials and the food was very good. We all really enjoyed it.
We had a lovely roast dinner on Sunday. There was a little mix up which got sorted straight away. The staff were very lovely and the food was fab! Thank you
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal but I did find the portion very big but perhaps men have bigger appetites!
Great tasty food … mini haddock and chips and chicken Cajun burger and chips. Lovely staff and beautiful pub.
Excellent meal - great professional and friendly service - lovely atmosphere - highly recommended. Thank you 🙂
We are here on a relaxing break for a few days, so this was our first visit and were recommended the restaurant by our hosts. We were not disappointed! The food was of very high quality, the portion sizes huge and good value for money! Atmosphere was very pleasant and staff were friendly. If we are ever in the area again we will no doubt return.
We were very warmly greeted, our drinks order taken then shown to our table. There's a great selection of dishes on the menu so definitely something for everyone. My husband had the pie of the day, steak and ale which he said was delicious and I had the Chicken Souvlaki flatbread which was amazing but the biggest flatbread I've ever seen but I took my leftovers home and had a very tasty lunch the next day. Service throughout the entire meal was excellent, you were made to feel feel very much at home. We'd definitely recommend the Malt Shovel and look forward to our next visit back.
We arrived for the 12pm first sitting as arranged. Sadly the food took nearly 50 minutes to arrive (we only had one course as we wanted to be under an hour), and there were no explanations or apologies. One member of our party did complain about the gammon steak being tough - to be fair it was tough, but was a thick cut and 2 of us didn't complain as it was edible. The manager/owner didn't really take it seriously and just walked off. When paying I did get an apology from the lady taking payment but no offer to investigate let alone reduce the bill. This was a Club meal for 7 before we went to Gaydon - nice pub but could certainly do better. I see it's not the first time delays have been mentioned and not the first comment that food complaints were dismissed. It was ok, but not great and the manager has probably lost our custom next time to be honest - for more people and a 3 course meal.
Great village pub serving excellent food from a varied menu choice. Friendly and helpful staff. Recommended
Clean, friendly environment, pleasant staff ,fantastic food, excellent service, 5 star
Beautiful food and friendly service- prices are very good too
Great idea for light lunches as older ladies a light lunch is ideal so we can have a pud!
Excellent food and friendly staff. Loved it and will be going back.
A good meal was had by all guests, service was attentive without being "pushy" in short up to their usual standards, we travel from Cheshire to meet friends & The Malt Shovel never disappoints.
Always a pleasure, great service and Staff are very attentive
What a lovely way to break your journey. Picturesque and delicious. The epitome of England.
A regular haunt for myself and my husband when meeting friends who are travelling on the M40, and is always reliably pleasant. Decent menu with good options and reasonably price. Latest visit was on a Monday lunchtime after booking online for the first time and there was a nice buzz for a Monday.
Great tasty food. The resident parrot is a character. Busy pub serving quality food.
Excellent food and pleasant pub. Friendly and helpful staff. Cajun chicken burger was a good portion size and chips were hot.
Great atmosphere & very good service staff really friendly certainly will come again
We were a really late booking as we’d been travelling. Delighted to find that the Sunday roast dinner was still being served. Wr both opted for beef, which was delightful. Everything was really tasty, (I would prefer to pout my own gravy, whist plentiful it was really rich) We found the food a little ‘tepid’ the potatoes were not crispy but a little hard. It’s just unfortunate I think it was the timing of our visit. Which we accept. Service was good. Beer was excellent We will definitely come back for a meal.
Lovely food, in an lovely setting with even better service
I book a table for my staff for a car show every year in June @ The Malt Shovel & I have never had a problem with the service, staff & the food. I found this establishment back in 2018 & I am so glad I did
Very nice Excellent service staff very attentive big portions will be back
Super early dinner thank you. Lovely food, friendly service. Thank you also for finding a box for my daughter to bring her leftovers home.
Very good local pub with a varied menu. Helpful and friendly staff. Recommended
Amazing food and Gaby was an excellent server, really kind and attentive
Great pub, lovely attentive staff, spacious tables. Food and drink options were plentiful.
Lovely pub, friendly helpful staff, and great beer and food!
Such a friendly team and amazing food! We will definitely be returning.
Tired, unfriendly landlady and mediocre food would not visit again.
The food overall was good, but one of party found a 3 inch long gray hair in there meal which was pointed out to the girl serving us. her responce was I don't have gray hair and took the plates away. so with that in mind, we will not be eating again here.
Friendly staff, nice food, with good waiting times between starter and main.
Weekday lunch for 2. I had the minted lamb which was on the tough side but still tasted lovely. I would go again.
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. We visited for my Mum's birthday and the team made it special by having us sit in a lovely area and the food was great. Thank you!
Excellent dining experience . Staff were delightful. I would def recommend highly
We were seated in a small alcove area which was lovely but full of flies. Food was okay but took an extremely long time to arrive and they weren’t particularly busy
Never had a bad meal at the Malt Shovel. The staff are always friendly and helpful.
A visit to British Motor Museum with old mate, required a good lunch - and the Malt Shovel did the business. Top notch food, good beer selection (at right temperature, and condition ), good friendly service too. Highly recommended, I wish I lived closer than 80 miles away!
Service was excellent, food was excellent and served in a very short amount of time.
