The pub is quite basic but the traditional pub food is fabulous, very tasty, unpretentious and good value. The beer was excellent too. The pie and chips was exceptional. Even the gravy was excellent.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch at The Malt Shovel
As lovely as always. Always enjoy visiting and eating there.
So welcoming and great food. Will come back again soon.

A Super friendly pub with delicious food. Dog friendly too!
The Malt Shovel always impresses with its cozy atmosphere, unique style (resident cockatoo) and wide selection of drinks. Each time we’ve visited there has been different choices on the menu and always the food is outstanding. Highly recommend. The staff our always friendly and the service is fantastic; staff recently went the extra mile to make a birthday meal a special occasion.
Had a lovely lunch. Food was fab and Becky looked after us very well. Overall very pleasant meal and service.
Friendly staff - very accommodating to our young children. Great food and plenty of it! Nice atmosphere and good ale. Will definitely come again…

Very good food as always Great service Look forward to next visit
A first class restaurant serving top class and great value food. RECOMMENDED.
Normally excellent service and amazing food - today however no Sunday roast followed up with along wait for food that wasn’t up to their normal quality when it arrived
Delicious food in a lovely setting. Would recommend to all.
The pub was lovely to walk into with a roaring fire. Staff were very friendly. Food was a good size portion and an excellent choice.
Very good village pub serving excellent food from a varied menu. Helpful and friendly staff. Recommended
An incredibly charming place, intimate and surrounded by friendly staff and delightful owners... and as for the kitchen team's achievements, I assure you they will satisfy even the most demanding palates...
Lovely pub and very good, friendly service. Would recommend it.
Great food and service even though they were really busy. Lovely atmosphere too
The food was delicious, well presented and reasonably priced. I recommend it.
Excellent service, really cheery staff and the food was amazing
A lovely pub with nice staff This is the 2nd time we have been back and definitely will be back again Especially to see Harper the parrot 🦜
Lovely food, especially good gluten free fish and chips 😁. Good atmosphere and very friendly, helpful waitress. Will definitely return 👍
Great service and fine food with a varied menu to chose from.
I’m a regular and staff are always friendly and on the ball
Absolutely delicious food - highly recommend the Chip Shop Platter and the Lamb Pie, mash and gravy (proper pie, not the disappointing wafty-topped type). Great service, friendly people who clearly take pride in their pub. Good beers too and 0% Guinness too if you fancy it. We'll return again without a doubt.
Great service, friendly atmosphere and amazing food! Couldn’t fault it.
We have been coming here for the past 4 years and we have always had excellent food and service
£150 4 adults 1 child Sunday lunch 2 pints of cider 3 coke’s food was ok not great bit expensive
Great welcome and lovely food. We would definitely go again
We had a lovely lunch and the staff was really nice, great pub will have to go again sometime
A friendly pub with very good food and beer. Cheerful and happy staff. Lovely surroundings. What more do you want.
Lovely place to meet up with friends or family. A very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Varied choice of dishes on the menu plus a nice selection on the specials and the food was very good. We all really enjoyed it.
We had a lovely roast dinner on Sunday. There was a little mix up which got sorted straight away. The staff were very lovely and the food was fab! Thank you
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal but I did find the portion very big but perhaps men have bigger appetites!
Great tasty food … mini haddock and chips and chicken Cajun burger and chips. Lovely staff and beautiful pub.
Excellent meal - great professional and friendly service - lovely atmosphere - highly recommended. Thank you 🙂
We are here on a relaxing break for a few days, so this was our first visit and were recommended the restaurant by our hosts. We were not disappointed! The food was of very high quality, the portion sizes huge and good value for money! Atmosphere was very pleasant and staff were friendly. If we are ever in the area again we will no doubt return.
We were very warmly greeted, our drinks order taken then shown to our table. There's a great selection of dishes on the menu so definitely something for everyone. My husband had the pie of the day, steak and ale which he said was delicious and I had the Chicken Souvlaki flatbread which was amazing but the biggest flatbread I've ever seen but I took my leftovers home and had a very tasty lunch the next day. Service throughout the entire meal was excellent, you were made to feel feel very much at home. We'd definitely recommend the Malt Shovel and look forward to our next visit back.
We arrived for the 12pm first sitting as arranged. Sadly the food took nearly 50 minutes to arrive (we only had one course as we wanted to be under an hour), and there were no explanations or apologies. One member of our party did complain about the gammon steak being tough - to be fair it was tough, but was a thick cut and 2 of us didn't complain as it was edible. The manager/owner didn't really take it seriously and just walked off. When paying I did get an apology from the lady taking payment but no offer to investigate let alone reduce the bill. This was a Club meal for 7 before we went to Gaydon - nice pub but could certainly do better. I see it's not the first time delays have been mentioned and not the first comment that food complaints were dismissed. It was ok, but not great and the manager has probably lost our custom next time to be honest - for more people and a 3 course meal.
Great village pub serving excellent food from a varied menu choice. Friendly and helpful staff. Recommended
