So glad a friend from the area recommended to book a table here while I am visiting. Very busy but great ambiance. Excellent service and the food was delicious. The vies of the river at sunset was an added bonus.

Starter arrived too quickly. Main fine. Many different staff served us. drinks took ages to come and arrived after our starter.

Myself and a friend visited the restaurant for a pre-theatre meal. 2 courses for £19.95, which we both thouroughly enjoyed. Big shout out to Brian whose service was impeccable.

We were really looking forward to eating at the Mustard Seed but unfortunately the food was quite poor. We both decided to select the Sirloin Streak special and both meals were below standard. The steak was full of gristle and tough and the roast potatoes were cold. For over £30 this in not acceptable. One meal included a small section of kitchen foil. The waiter handled it perfectly and told the chef immediately which was good. We also received £10 off the bill because of this issue. Finally we decided to choose the cheese board to share for our dessert and unfortunately one portion of cheese was unpalatable. It actually made me feel unwell. We will never return to this restaurant and would not recommend to any of our colleagues or friends. Many thanks Alison

Food was ok but not startling - appreciate the restaurant is called the Mustard Seed but nonetheless the honey mustard sauce combined with chutney completely destroyed any other taste sensation in the cheese tart. Hake was OK but under seasoned. Still reasonable value for 2 courses at under £18 and staff were very pleasant, but just disappointing in the flavour front.

It took over an hour to get our meal after we ordered and the best part of the meal was the salad. Both of our meat entrees were very tough. Will not return.

The mustard seed is consistently good and always feel excellent value. First and only time being slightly disappointed. Ordered The Hake on a kedgeree which was not good, (suspect the chef hadn’t tasted it). The kedgeree needed stock and rice was slightly underdone and watery but with an odd oily afterfeel. Hoping kedgerree cooked in butter and not veg oil. Otherwise good. Would love more exciting options for children who are vegetarian. I like that there is proper food options for children (salmon and veg) in addition to the bland fried options on smaller portion menus.

Greeted promptly, pate did not have enough mini oatcakes so asked for additional bread which seemed a big deal, fig and pear salad was good, the duck special was very good but the truffle mashed potatoes overwhelmed it a bit, the lemon sole was a bit fussy, but was enjoyed.

Food was excellent. Lovely warm, comfortable setting on a horrible night. However, staff could have been more knowledgeable about drinks, particularly gin selection. At times the service was overly officious and even felt that staff were passive aggressive in their approach - not the previous experience at the Mustard Seed. Maybe a bad night but didn’t feel that staff were happy in their work 🤔

We visited the Mustard Seed on our honeymoon trip to Scotland and had an excellent experience! The food, service, and atmosphere were wonderful. We do highly recommend making a reservation in advance to ensure you get a table!
