We loved our visit to The Priest Hole! On a rare night away from our little ones it was such a treat to have such a gorgeous meal in a gorgeous restaurant! We went on Thursday which was steak night and we were not disappointed! Cooked to our very differing specifications and generous Lake District portions! The cauliflower pakora and beetroot/goats cheese starters were excellent and we ended with delicious desserts! The tram were warm and welcoming and it was an experience we would gladly return for! Thanks the Nicola and all the team!x
Superb as usual. Visited several times. Will be back again.
Good food and friendly attentive service in a fascinating building
great food and service as always, had choices off the Sunday menu only, would of liked a choice of sandwiches or more lighter bites as i wasn't particularly hungry at the time. Overall the food was lovely though,
This was our first visit and we will be back. Fabulous cheery staff and the food was super. Steak pie was amazing. Loved the wonky floors.
Not very good , much better places to eat in Ambleside Staff seemed to want everyone out before 9pm
Lovely restaurant with intriguing history and extraordinary menu. The staff worked very hard to make sure our visit was memorable. Highly recommended.
Food was pretty good. Staff were very friendly and efficient.
Great food in a quirky setting, staff were helpful & attentive
Staff were really friendly, very helpful ,food was amazing,,,we have booked for Sunday lunch Recommend them highly
Steak night was delicious. Well cooked, tender steak and Greek salad. Brill!
Very attentive staff, lovely food, great setting. The note about food intolerance in the booking hadn't been passed on but they were able to guide us as to what on the menu would fit that need. It was busy so we had to wait a little longer for food but it was OK. We had a lovely time.
Nice atmosphere, nice staff and nice food. What more can you ask for.
Very nice meal and the staff were very pleasant and helpful
Anniversary dinner, I requeya quiet table and Prosecco in the fridge we got exactly that including the table laid with flutes. The specials were amazing as were the steaks and the service topped it off brilliantly 😁
Friendly staff, clean eating area (sat outside), served quickly, quality food at a good price, would recommend
Staff were lovely and we enjoyed our food and wine. Our only complaint was that the steak was overdone for medium rare but a deduction was made to the bill which was appreciated. Will happily visit again.
Great food, great people looking after you and well worth a visit.
Had an enjoyable evening at the priest hole , the food was lovely , the service was great , would recommend a visit while in Ambleside
We had a reservation & we were seated promptly. We each ordered the Sunday roast-I had the pork & my husband had the lamb. Both were very good, although some of the pork was a bit dry.
Lovely meal. Had the hake and the fish was cooked perfectly. It was very busy but nevertheless the staff were very attentive and friendly.
Excellent restaurant with great service! Food very good value! Thanks guys!
Excellent food and service. Friendly and helpful staff. Good choice of food.
The history of the building was fascinating. Great to see it in original condition
Good food, attentive staff, great atmosphere to meet old friends.
Visited for Sunday roast lunch and it was really great. The food was super tasty, both the beef and pork were lean and delicious along with the veg and crispy potatoes - the cauliflower cheese side is a must too! Great local ales, friendly atmosphere and staff (Yasmine was really engaging and told us about the history of the Inn) made it a really pleasant visit. All round good value and would highly recommend…
Historic location, central location, nice atmosphere. Food cooked to perfection.
Friendly, comfortable, and good food and attentive service. Cheery atmosphere.
It was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. My wife loved her hamburger too. Our waitress was friendly and quickly corrected a mistake she had made on our order. We wish we lived here and could go back again, but we’re visiting from the States.
Food was so nice and well presented. Service efficient and friendly
Great food, plenty of choice, lovely old building and excellent staff
I enjoyed my meal, staff were attentive without hovering over me.
Really delicious food, the chowder was spectacular. Would definitely recommend
Great food, quiet and cosy. Great location. Would definitely recommend.
Great food & great service. Good atmosphere. Would recommend this for lunch &/or dinner
I booked a table for my daughters 40th birthday. We arrived at 7.30, and were told that there was only beef left on the Sunday dinner option. Within seconds that option had gone. We ordered 2 x flat iron steaks, to then be told that was no longer available. We were offered sirloin steaks as an alternative, which was kind of them but not being great meat eaters, we found this was too much meat for us. My daughter ended up swapping her meal with her husband, which was a burger, so not a great choice for her. Overall disappointed, as I wanted this to be a special evening. My advise to others would be to go as early as you can in the day, to hopefully get the meal you want. And don't use the toilets!
Delicious meal - well done Team. We'll be back again.
Nice restaurant, good food, prices are reasonable and good value for money.
Nice steak pie but couldn’t manage it all . Good service
Lovely staff, it was a hot and busy day but they did their best to not keep you waiting. Food was mediocre, roast dinner was probably not the best choice. Beef was nice but the veg was undercooked and the roast potatoes a little disappointing. There was also a dog at the next table and although it was a very well behaved dog, it was sat at the table not under it, on a chair that someone will be sat on and eating their meal shortly afterwards. I appreciate that well behaved dogs are welcomed most places but I just thought it was a little unhygienic.
Very disappointed in the lamb roast dinner. Staff very good
Great food, and absolutely, wonderful service, so would definitely recommend!!
The staff were lovely, however the food was not the standard I’d heard about from friends! I ordered a Lamb roast after watching them coming out to other tables, worst choice ever! The cauliflower was ice cold as though it had come from the freezer and the Yorkshire pud was as flat as a pancake. The lovely staff member took it back and said we’ll make you a fresh one! I received the same exact meal about 10 mins later with the same Yorkshire pud less the cauliflower yet more cold veg!!! We were also sat by a window with a view of the kitchen where I saw all the roast potatoes ready cooked sat under a heat lamp and a member of staff breaking up a Yorkshire pud and dipping it into the pan of gravy with their fingers!!! I’ll definitely not be going back very disappointed
We enjoyed our dinner which was for my daughter’s birthday. Portion sizes were large and lots of choices
Cafe food at expensive restaurant prices , some staff just going through the motions quite dis interested if we were enjoying our meal
Booed for 7.30 and ordered slightly after. Others ordered after is and served before us. Meal itself was nice but felt like they couldn’t wait for us to leave as it approached 9pm and we had sweets and coffee. Asked for condiments which never arrived. Previous visits have been ok but left disappointed after this visit
Very average, atmosphere lacking in up stairs room, service slow. Steak tasted ok but looked insipid with floppy white fat and luke warm. Waited ages for desert menu so went elsewhere for desert.
Staff slightly remote and unwelcoming Food was nice - asked in advance for table not facing a wall-was immediately given one - although managed to change reluctantly with asking. Staff training perhaps needed
We liked the service. The steak and lamb was good but not the best coz too much gravy and not as hot. Besides the bread was dry.
We had booked a table for Sunday lunch and it was ready on our arrival. The bar staff quickly brought us menus and our food and drink order was swiftly taken When our meal arrived it was nicely cooked and well presented. We both had a roast dinner, dessert and some of the local bottled beer. Definitely recommend for a Sunday roast.
