Tom Yam first opened its beautiful dark wooden doors at Fountain Place in the heart of Poynton town centre in 2013, and has been serving locals and Stockport fans of Southeast Asian cuisine ever since. The restaurant takes its name from the traditional Thai soup that’s an ideal start to the lavish meals on offer here. Tom Yam’s kitchen is staffed by a team of expert Thai chefs, ensuring that standards are consistently high and traditional culinary practices are strongly represented. While the food is certainly exotic, Tom Yam strives to source all the ingredients it can – including meat and fish – from local suppliers, for freshness and sustainability.
A great introduction to Tom Yam’s authentic Thai cuisine is to book in for a banquet, the most lavish of these beginning with a Tom Yam signature mixed starter and the eponymous hot and sour soup with king prawns, followed by roast duck curry, three-sauce cod, seafood stir fry, beef in oyster sauce, plenty of steamed jasmine rice and a delicious dessert to finish. A great selection of wines, beer and other beverages are a great accompaniment. If you’re looking for an affordable Thai experience in Poynton’s town centre, be sure to check out the restaurant’s early bird menu, offered Monday to Thursday from 5pm until 6:45pm.
