Probably the best restaurant in Birmingham, such a shame it has gone.
A wonderful find, lovely laid back with very interesting food dishes. Flavour & taste were quite exquisite along with paired down presentation really made it work as a seven course tasting menu, accompanied by excellent wine, thanks.
Food and service was absolutely excellent. It is such a shame that it is no longer going to be open in the same way. Looking forward to trying out the chef's next culinary adventure!
Brilliant little restaurant, quirky beautiful decor. Staff are fantastic. Best octopus I ever had! Just need to upgrade their choices of champagne and wines. We will return
If it was purely down to how imaginative a chef can be with his ingredients, this would score 7 out of 6. When you're faced with a course entitled "Birch, Oak, Pine" you might expect some twigs, but somehow Niki Astley turns it into a dessert of delicate subtlety. It would be difficult to describe what it tasted of because there just aren't any easy comparisons. All I can say if you want an intimate, perfectly presented and served seven-course meal that defies belief in the taste department is: Go to Two Cats Kitchen.
Everything was right, the staff attentive yet not cloying, the setting homely so that you felt comfortable from the outset, two good Romanian wines (and being honest, would we ever have tried Romanian wine otherwise?). And then the food. OK, it's a tasting menu so not everyone is going to like absolutely everything, but the kitchen staff did everything they could to accommodate allergies and serious dislikes (please tell them when booking - it makes life easier and the experience even better all round). The main event was superb - excellent quality ingredients supremely well cooked but with some really innovative twists too. The first dessert course (I shan't spoil it for those who have it to come) was simply astonishing just for its variety of ingredients and was a culmination of all the combinations of flavours we had tasted all evening. Two Cats thoroughly deserves its place amongst the best restaurants Birmingham has to offer. Our thanks to all who gave us a great culinary experience.
Discretely located in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter, Two Cats Kitchen is a restaurant to go to for an excellent fine dining experience. One might not expect a gastronomic journey with the red brick setting of the dining room but looks can be deceiving. The tasting menu (7-course) was well presented and delicious - using a range of products from seafood (octopus) to different meats. Staff were attentive and friendly. Great service and food. Highly recommend dining here.
Great space and lovely service at Two Cats Kitchen in the up and coming Jewelry Quarter. But the food leaves much to be desired - in a nutshell, they are trying too hard. It's difficult with all the competition to be interesting and innovative, different from the rest of the pack but that doesn't mean one should put all the ingredients imaginable into one dish. Quality ingredients should stand on their own, not be bogged down with '29 other ingredients' (like our starter). A lot of potential but Two Cats Kitchen needs to re-think their philosophy and keep it simple.
It was really a good experience to visit Two Cats Kitchen. The room is really beautiful with a good atmosphere. Since there are only limited seats the place is nice and quiet and you can easily talk without having to shout. The food is really good - Baltic gourmet. Not all the dishes were equally good, but it's really fun to try something new. All in all a super experience. And the price is a bargain.
Two Cats Kitchen gave us, a party of 5, a wonderful evening. The food experience, in of itself, was amazing. I have not tried so many different combination of flavours and ingredients in one evening - & it was ALL GOOD! The staff was very friendly & we had a fabulous evening because the whole dining experience was quite unique.
