Wolkite Kitfo

Kitfo is an essential part of any Eritrean or Ethiopian restaurant’s repertoire, a traditional dish of raw minced beef marinated in a usually fiery spice blend called mitmita and herbed butter, sometimes served lightly cooked as kitfo leb leb. It’s this dish that gives Wolkite Kitfo its name, and the dish is certainly a staple at this Holloway restaurant, served alongside injera flatbread (that you use in place of cutlery) or cocho (a bread made from the false banana plant), East African cottage cheese and greens. Indeed, the other part of the restaurant’s name, Wolkite, is derived from the town in Ethiopia considered the birthplace of the famous dish, so it’s fair to say that Wolkite Kitfo is a specialist in London, easily found along Hornsey Road just moments from Holloway Road, Drayton Park, and Arsenal stations, close to Emirates Stadium.
