Simply a perfect place for a Greek dining experience. Lovely authentic food, great atmosphere, beach hut like setting and friendly, attentive and likeable staff make this a 10/10 every time for me. Will always return here.

I have never been disappointed in any of my more than 12 visits to Amalthea. I have always enjoyed the food, the service is friendly and the staff attentive, the ambience is great and reminiscent of a Greek island. I want to note especially the food - as, after all, this is a restaurant/bistro. The menu is exciting (a little too long perhaps, but that reflects the chef's desire to show his talents!) and changes regularly, or probably evolves through the year and the seasons. There's the Greek standards but also dishes that even I (a Greek) had not tried before. Gems from regional cooking traditions. All well executed and using the best local ingredients. The meat dishes are outstanding! Only "complaint" is the absence of a drinks licence. Choosing a good wine to go with your meal should be part of any culinary experience.

My wife has been to Amalthea several times before taking me on Father's Day. It's not licenced so we took our own wine and we're treated to a lovely meal. We couldn't manage s dessert so we took some baklava home which was also yummy! At £58 for 2 excluding wine it's fair value and we'll go again!

A really friendly restaurant serving authentic greek cuisine . Food was fresh and tasty and the owners and staff made you feel very welcome. You take your own alcohol and they are more than happy to open the bottles and supply the appropriate glasses. A lovely experience!

The environment and ambience is amazing. The staff are wonderful and so attentive as well as being very personable. There is oodles to chose from on the menu and we were told that everything is available! The little deli is beautiful too - I recommend any of the honey! Plus the oils - and the coffee! The only reason I didn't give 100% top rating is my dish was a bit too oily for me. Recommended: meat mezze

My wife and I had a very enjoyable meal. The food was excellent and was served by friendly and efficient staff. The starter of rare cheese and bread had interesting labels explaining what each cheese was and the bread was delicious. the main course, Kleftico was cooked to perfection. Being to take your own wine without paying corkage was a good perk.

Our return visit was just as enjoyable as our first + 2 friends there for the first time were equally impressed & will be back. The "service" can hardly be called service, as it is like friends coming to the table to ask what we'd like to eat. Just so friendly, and the food really excellent. In order to manage a delicious dessert, two starters instead of a starter & main work well, so able to enjoy the lemon cake. A lovely place, lovely people & we'll be back soon. Thank you.

Very friendly staff. The food was excellent. We ordered the meze which was delicious! The price was fairly reasonable taking into consideration that one needs to bring one's own alcohol. I would certainly recommend for a Greek cuisine experience!

I'm afraid that the extensive and tempting-sounding menu didn't live up to expectations. Whilst my lamb kleftiko was reasonably tasty, it was accompanied only by a salad garnish and rice. My husband's pork kotsi (shank) had identical accompaniments, and according to the menu had been 'roasted with Cretan orange-infused extra virgin olive oil'. I asked my husband whether he could taste the orange, to which her replied 'a little'. The evening had started well - entering a cosy, attractive bistro, with deli goods ranged behind our table. Also, my husband's starter of green beans in a tomato and herb sauce, with pitta bread and cheese was enjoyable. Unfortunately, the wait for this and all other courses was far too long - even making allowances for Greek service! Also, we had ordered some olives to nibble on whilst waiting for my husband's starter - these didn't come until his starter was delivered. The desserts too were disappointing, with my "black cherry cake: consisting of a small square of unexciting plain chocolate cake, with a few cherries, drizzled with a honey dressing. The coffees we ordered came a very long time before the desserts, meaning we had no coffee to drink by the time the desserts arrived.

A small, very nicely decorated restaurant with lovely, helpful staff. Food was good in general, but the salads lacked imagination and seemed to use bagged ingredients. Overall though our evening was very enjoyable as the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and felt like a little bit of Greece on the outskirts of Leeds.

Lovely ambience and incredibly nice staff, so smiley and helpful and informative. The food was nice, but probably not really to my taste, the cheese starters were just cheese ans biscuits and my sea bream served on the bone which put me off a bit. Just served with salad too, I woulx have liked some potato or rice or bread (lovely staff brought Pitta when asked. £30 a head seemed more than I wanted to pay for a meal I didn't love, (£90 got us 3 starters, 3 mains and 2 desserts, no drinks). I'd say go and try it, you might love it.
