This place was a really good find in Edinburgh. Both the food and the service were excellent, highly recommended. We’ll definitely return in our next trip.

Checkpoint is a really good choice for food in Edinburgh. We go there often with my colleagues because one of us is gluten intolerant and they have a good choice of gluten free dishes. Only thing is that, maybe, it can be a wee bit dark. I get the whole point of candle-lit dinners but I also appreciate seeing my food.

Cool ambiance, good food, service isn’t 100%, but overall worth going for a meal in which you get your money’s worth. I recommend the steak salad!

The atmosphere was great, nice and relaxed, exactly what we wanted for the evening. A nice menu too, everything sounded amazing and a good selections of drinks and cocktails

Food was very good. Location was excellent. Service was very good. Restaurant was spacious. I would have preferred a china plate to a metal bowl for my dinner but food good.

Whole experience was delightful, even though it was very busy. Food was amazing - and different. I went with a friend that is both gluten & dairy intolerant. She had loads of choice to select from - and could even have a proper pudding! Staff were delightful, too. Would thoroughly recommend!

We had a lovely time at the restaurant. The service was excellent and the menu had a great selection. I particularly enjoyed the avocado and lime cheesecake.

Service was slow in the first instance - 10 minutes before anyone came to our table. Food was not great - burnt egg, sausages not cooked (!!) everything not warm enough.

Very friendly and welcoming. Good selection of food even though we didn't have the evening menu. Good wine selection and reasonable prices. Only slight downside was the volume of the music which made it a little difficult to hear at times.

Really good choice of beers. The food was very good, but although my salad was more than enough, some of the other portions weren't that big, and sides were needed.

Lovely waitress however service eratic at times. The sea bass and bombay baby potato dish I had was tasteless and bland. Enough potatoes for 4 people , I left most of them. No seasoning at all. I've been a few times and it wasn't the same experience as before.

We stopped in for a quick lunch. Excellent and interesting food. Service was very good, the staff knowledgeable and engaging. Charmingly quirky decor. Would highly recommend it

Great food, pleasant service and excellent value for money. The only downside was we had to return a gin as it had a hair in It.

Checkpoint is currently struggling with new kitchen staff. We were warned the food would take a long time to arrive and the restaurant was far from full. The waiting staff were not wrong. The sea bass and cod dishes were good and the flat iron steaks OK but the chips need some serious work. Supposedly three times cooked, they were huge - more like quarter potatoes than chips - and completely failed to achieve the light fluffiness inside and crispiness outside that normally comes with such a pampered foodstuff. The main course bowl of chickpea and squash was also huge and so heavily spiced it ended up being bland and an insurmountable trial to eat. The staff were pleasant and did provide an on the house drink when one of the mains didn't appear until five minutes after everyone else's. It could be a really nice place to eat and probably was, but at the moment it's very hard to rate highly.

Food was terrible but the manageress was apologetic, gave a good discount and explained they were having problems with their chef. Environment was nice, location good, staff nice.

The restaurant was really busy (during the Festivals which is to be expected) even when we arrived just before noon but the wait staff were really friendly and kept us informed about the delay in ordering and checked on us many times. Food did not take too long in the end and was delicious as usual. Really friendly and attentive staff thanks so much and good luck during the rest of August! :)

Food and service were both outstanding. The flat iron steak salad was just enough for a meal. Prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend.

Went for an early meal during the festival. The staff were very attentive and informative about the menu. Food was tasty and price was reasonable. Relaxed atmosphere away from the crowds.

Tasty, interesting food for not much money. We spent just over £100 on a meal for five people including drinks and a couple of deserts.

Nice staff; good coffee. Serving salad in a giant metal bowl just makes it difficult to eat! Interesting menu with range of vegan/gluten free options.

Pleasant, central bistro with nice food. The waiting staff were helpful and quick. An inexpensive menu with a good selection which would probably appeal to young adults.

I was meeting up with old friends and wanted somewhere with interesting and delicious food, which was also helpful for people with allergies. We were made very welcome at Checkpoint. Highly recommended!

Unfortunately there had not been a delivery of food, so there was no halloumi, blue cheese etc, as a vegetarian my options were limited. Previously had enjoyed my experience but yesterday was a let down.

Our server was new, only her second day but she was so lovely and did great. The food was tasty and reasonably priced too and the decor is cool and unique.

Amazing! The best burger in Scotland. The food service was amazing, our needs were met. The bar selection was good, the bar service was excellent. Cocktails were fantastic, and a good wine selection.

Interesting and varied menu with lots of options for drinks and food. Food was well cooked and tasty with nice presentation. My main criticism is that the music was too loud - more at bar/club volume than for dining.

Great choice of food and very friendly and helpful staff. Been there for lunch many times - this was my first time for dinner. Only downsides - white wine not chilled enough and (even more so than lunchtime) it was a bit too noisy to have an easy conversation.

Great place to eat out with friends on a Friday night; young and friendly service. The selection of dishes for the menu was excellent and plates well presented.

Average food , service & ambiance, not as good as anticipated. Fairly empty early evening Sunday. Couple of vegan options which was good. Apart from a couple of main course fish & meat dishes, menu felt like cafe / fast food, not restaurant. Probably better suited to lunch rather than dinner.

Really great, friendly and attentive service. Large menu with great options catering to many dietary restrictions with unique food choices. Fun atmosphere - have enjoyed every visit and will be back!

Generous portions of great food, friendly service! Nice atmosphere and good facilities for mum and baby. Clean baby change and noisey enough to mask crying little one.

Excellent food at great prices - we both had the steak salad. The coffee was slow to come but tasted really good when it came.

Never fails to disappoint! Had the delicious harissa bowl and my sisters had the rolls which were tasty as apparently. Great staff, I'all be back!

Lovely atmosphere, some great tunes playing in the background, and the waiter was super-cute, friendly and very efficient. Would definitely go again, and the sweet potato fries are a must.

The menu choices were varied and delightful and the food when it came was delicious, but I think they were under-staffed as the service was very slow. Would return!
