My first visit (with my family) to City Spice in Brick Lane. A family restaurant but absolutely fantastic food. Side dishes and mains – we had six between the four of us. All the dishes we had were really outstanding. Great flavours and great service too.
I can’t fault City Spice's level of service or the quality of their food. The waiter was incredibly attentive and polite, offering to talk through the entirety of the menu and help us feel comfortable navigating the menu which contained a wide variety of food for us to try. He also had helpful advice on the portions of the food and the ingredients and flavours of each dish. I just didn’t want the meal to end it was so good. You really can’t find any other place like City Spice in London . Book ahead to avoid disappointment, as it will be packed with people enjoying their scrumptious food! I am definitely looking forward to the next time I eat here.
Came here with my partner for our anniversary and had been wanting to visit for ages. We were both greeted by super friendly staff, a nicely scented foyer (doesn’t sound like a huge deal but when it’s nice, it’s nice) and two vegan menus! We had the chaat, palani potatoes, chole achar, and roti. It was all beautifully seasoned, fresh, and had a gorgeous diversity of textures, colours, tanginess, sweetness, mild spice. The menus are beautiful and well in keeping with the live jazz band theme. The building itself is stunning and the atmosphere was lovely - what a lovely restaurant.
Wow , stunning place , busy , atmospheric , bustling , amazing staff , awesome food . I chose chilli chicken , it was hot , and very tasty , i then had Ruby Chicken with garlic naan , both choices were awesome . No downside to this place , 100% praise from me .
If you like Indian food, (who doesn't) and you are in London, don't miss a visit to City Spice. It is undeniably one of the best Indian restaurants in the city. The food was outstanding, we tried the Chefs special 'Lamb Shank' and also the Biriyani from the presentation to the last grain of rice, it was super delicious. The plate came with the lamb shank bone sticking out and the biryani covered in a covering made of wheat flour, and as the waiter unrolled the covering (a presentation in itself), the delicious aroma of the biryani wafted out and made you salivate and ready to dig in. The meat just dropped off the bone, and the delicate spicy of the biryani made you want to dig in for more. We tried some kebabs which were melt in your mouth and the mango kulfi sealed the experience. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lively, service very good - all in all a truly wonderful experience. It was a weekday evening, but the restaurant was packed with people waiting for a table at the bar, so, get there early or reserve a table Make sure to visit City Spice!
My girlfriend and I stood outside City Spice desperately trying to read the menu affixed to the shop window; through the drunken glaze frosted over my eyeballs I could make out what sounded like great dishes and presumed that there'd be a Cobra waiting for me inside somewhere. The decision to enter the restaurant however was made for us by an elderly Australian couple who noticed in our faces what must have looked like reticence but was in fact boozy apathy. 'It's the best restaurant on Brick Lane and we've been coming for twenty years,' they beamed. We went in. We had to stand and wait for a table because they were so busy but we were glad to get out of the cold anyway. The manager was very kind and gifted us (and many other waiting diners) a Cobra (etc.) while we waited. He was in manic mode trying to clear tables but his approach was calm and kind as photos of him and the various celebs he'd fed floated on a TV screen behind his head. Was it worth the fifteen minute wait? Yeah. Huge menu with everything you'd hope for on it and loads more to entice you from your curry-comfort zone (we've all got one). My basic girlfriend didn't have a korma which made for a nice change. I enjoyed my Chef Special (can't remember which one) immensely and I shall def be coming back. All up, with poppadoms, naans, rices, drinks and assorted Bhaji satellites, these two Balti bandits were more than satisfied for about £60. Good date night and would be class for larger groups. Big handshake and a smile from the boss man as we walked back into the night.
Gordon Bennett this was a blindly good curry house for a ruby murray. Chicken Balti all the way City Spice!
Genuinely the best ruby murray on Brick Lane. Enjoyed my time there, staff were pleasant and they got a banging Butter Chicken!
Fantastic food! Booked a table as I was staying in Shoreditch for a while. Really glad I picked this restaurant
The food was nice and a quick service was provided
Food is good, service as well. Unfortunately, the lighting in the ground floor is not very nice and due to the door being open all the time it was also quite chilly. Apart from that, I would recommend.
Cold food, rude manager, cramped dark interior. It's better to try one of the other curry houses on bricklane
Amazing good with a great vegan menu! Lots of options
Nice food, good staff. One of the better places on Brick Lane
Food was fine, can't say it was any better than a standard Indian restaurant. But they really rush you. Dishes arrive fast and are taken away the moment you put your fork down They don't even ask if you want dessert or coffee. The bill arrives before to ask for it, then you're turfed out. Okay food but the place is just a conveyor belt Go if you are in a rush. Don't go if you like to relax and enjoy a meal
Greasy food rude staff. Unpleasant experience.. go with the street food looks much better. The waiter actually pulled a spoon out of my 8year olds hand. I am bit flabbergasted. Overpriced below average food.
The dishes were perfectly seasoned and retained a full spectrum of flavors. Best service, best people, best flavors. They're hospitality just stands out. Highly recommended !!
We called to let them know we would be arriving a little late, once we arrived we were more than surprised. The outside makes you wonder what the food will be like but once you walk in it’s a completely different look. The food was amazing. I like my food spicy bad they were happy to accommodate my taste buds. I will definitely be returning soon.
Food was very good, only slight annoyance only wine served by the glass was house not great and wine glasses were very retro ,which did make me smile ,but that was my only gripe and it's all about the food when having a curry, and could not find any fault with that
Service was great, food very tasty but it was a bit cold due to the door being open quite regularly - will definitely try again but in the down stair restaurant.
Fantastic Indian restaurant based in London. One of the best restaurant I've been in to in london. Lover staff and Great meal. I will surely recommend.
Good indian restaurant, had a good meal here. Not quite up to expectation for all the hype, we were expecting to be blown away as had seen its various awards and it was good food but not groundbreaking. Would go again but wouldn't make a special trip again, would probably try one of many close by indians first. Service wasn't particuarly friendly either.
The food was on point, the price was perfect and the whole experience itself was loveky. I would recommend it to anyone to try it
Fantastic curry with quite excellent service. Would highly recommend. We were staying round the corner, walked passed and booked straight away - glad we did. Lovely meal!
Nice food and reasonable prices, the service could have been friendlier. Chicken tikka balti was great!! Good selection of sauces. Quick and delicious - I'll definitely coming back!
