Clavells Restaurant

Clavells is our ‘go to’ restaurant as we are never disappointed. The staff friendly and welcoming, the food delicious with a terrific varied menu to suit all palettes. Good value for money. Thank you to Emma and her team. Thoroughly recommend.

Personable and timely service but £16.50 for a lamb casserole with peas and mash with a miniscule amount of lamb and small portions of the other ingredients was poor value for money. The roast beef Sunday lunch was better value at £18.

First visit and will definitely return. Great service and really lovely food. Would advise booking if a weekend as was really busy. Fortunately we did.

When we arrived it was very busy, we were shown to out table very quickly so did not have to wait around. The staff, food, service were all excellent.

Excellent quality locally sourced food, with a great menu and range of specials to choose from!

Good main course and dessert. Slightly over-generous portions. Very friendly, relaxed service. Could do with more choices for vegan/vegetarian diners and some lighter options – there are a lot of potentially fatty dishes on the menu. A clean but dull interior which could do with an injection of style. About 20% overpriced, but we came away satisfied.

The service was very good we were made very welcome. The food was enjoyed by everyone in our party and very tasty. The restaurant was very busy and quite a lot of background din. We all accep teddy this as it was lunchtime, school holidays and a number of families with young children. Overall very good and will use again.

The sausages weren’t very nice and the salad was soaked in a vinegar dressing. Needed less dressing. However the chips were the best I have ever had and the Dorset apple cake with clotted cream was to die for.

Lovely location. We sat outside as it was sunny. Menu choices are good and the food was delicious. Dogs accepted inside and out which makes eating out so much easier.

A lovely lunch which was presented well and the service was good. All in all a very good experience. The food was lovely and most tasty. We will be returning within the next week or so. Very well done

We booked for lunch through Quandoo. We popped in before going for a walk to change our reservation time, and staff were very friendly and helpful. We returned from our walk and were seated but the restaurant was really really busy- they have a lot of outdoor seating ( and it was half term) It took a while to get menus and even longer for orders to be taken. Drinks took a long time to arrive, and our request for fizzy water was forgotten twice. The inside restaurant was heaving with people coming in and walking past our table to use the toilets ( long queues backed up into the dining area) Also people ordering food from outside have to use the bar area near the front entrance, so it was a chaotic mix of people coming in and out for the loo, people queuing to order food and drinks and staff trying to get through the crowds with food orders. When our food came - it was excellent. I had a pork belly salad, my partner mousakka, and we both had a glass of english wine. The orange and pomegranate sponge for desert was gorgeous. I think Clavells is a victim of its own success, the food is great, the staff are lovely but the layout of the restaurant doesn’t work and spoils the dining experience. My advice is to go for dinner- hopefully it would be quieter then!
