high staff churn rate always a concern but good standards maintained.

We visit Cote Newbury every week, and have been doing so for a very long time, but have had an enforced break for 5 weeks. On our much anticipated return (Saturday), we excitedly ordered from the March Specials Menu. The warm tiger prawn salad starter was OK. The prawns were just OK ... too much of the garlic bits for one of us. The messy sauce was not that nice - the mix of ingredients did not reflect the words on the menu. The Monkfish main was dreadful. We both found the fish watery in flavour and it was set on a too-mushroomy mess. We couldn't eat it. The food was so poor we didn't fancy our usual glass of vino, nor a dessert. The horrible taste stayed in our mouths for the rest of the day. Perhaps we should have stuck to choices from their other tried and tested, and perhaps too-oft repeated, menus. We say all this in the context that we love this restaurant but yesterday was horrible. Perhaps it was because it was a Saturday and the restaurant was packed. But that is not an excuse. We'll go back next week but if it is like yesterday, it'll indicate that things have changed in the kitchen at Cote Newbury and we'll call it a day and not return. PS The team looking after us at the table were, as always, wonderful. Welcoming and helpful.

What a lovely meal - the set menu has changed and was absolutely fabulous. As always, the staff are always smiling and helpful. Spot on!!

Very courteous and attentive. We did not have to wait long before we were served. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was well presented. It was busy but the tables are spaced so you don’t feel you need to shout or overhear other peoples conversations. Thank you

A regular visitor to Cote, Newbury, love this restaurant! Staff are friendly providing excellent service, an all round pleasant experience.

We were seated for at least 15 minutes before we ordered even our drinks. Other tables (who were seated after us) were served first. On arrival we were shown to our table (as one would expect), as a number of tables were free I asked if we could be seated near the window,I was told that they were reserved. However,other customers were given a choice of seating in the same area.

Found a hair in my breakfast Which was taken away and had a new one cooked Manager came an apologetic Was asked by the waitress if we needed another coffee which my husband said yes please We never got the coffee Payed the bill Which my breakfast was given to me free Thanks but service from waitress was not very good

The service was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. We asked for the vegetarian menu which was well laid out with lots of options. We ordered a puy lentil dish which was tasty and a green risotto which was disappointing - lacking in flavour, few green vegetables and rather stodgy. The bread, olives and tomato salad we has as starters were excellent. Saumur wine was inexpensive and worked well with the meal. Thank you - we will be back.

Absolutely love this place for breakfast. Their menu has a good variety and the quality is consistent every single time! Staff are always friendly too which obviously makes a difference to the whole experience. Keep it up!

The restaurant was absolutely buzzing - the atmosphere was fab. The timing between courses was perfect and the food arrived piping hot and was delicious! You couldn’t ask for more!

Our visit last night was excellent. It was one of the busiest nights we had ever seen at Cote in Newbury, however the staff coped brilliantly. They always had a smile on their face and nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb as usual. We will be booking again soon!

First time to this particular venue. An attractive design in a historic looking location. Friendly staff and a good buzz to the place. Will visit again if I’m in the area.

Good friendly service,even though restaurant was very busy. Restaurant lighting was a bit bright for our taste. The friendly waitress agreed that you used to lower the lighting to a softer evening setting at about 7.00pm. Despite her suggestion, this did not happen. Good menu choice. I like the early evening 2 or 3 course menu. However, could more vegetables be included as part of the main dishes, rather than having to be additional expensive side dishes? Isn't it time that restaurants like yours should be encouraging more veg consumption?

Three of us went to Cote for a quick bite before evening cinema. Food was great service was friendly and the ‘plats rapides’ were suitably speedy.

A wonderful way to start the day with a Cote Formule breakfast. The coffee is always spot on and they even allowed me to be flexitarian and swop a veg sausage for a meat one within a veggie breakfast. Thanks.

Overall another pleasant experience at Cote Newbury. Lunch time service can sometimes be a bit slow on popular days, as ours was today but the food quality was excellent - as always!

Newbury cote. Warm welcome, always excellent service. Love the way two waiters serve the meals together. Highly recommend the lunch menu, such a good deal.

Consistently good. Pleasant atmosphere, good food and efficient service. Not ‘high dining’, but varied food, quite a wide menu and food in the French style but without pretension. It is not too expensive and It is a regular stop for my wife and I, when we are in Newbury.

Took two friends, telling them how great it usually is. The service was patchy - 3 waitresses looking after our table - not particularly friendly or smiley, and certainly not efficient. Food not great, mine finally came, over cooked, when the others were half way through theirs. It was refunded but the evening was not a success. Shame, because it’s not usually like that.

This was our first visit to Cote in Newbury. It was an ideal place to eat - near to the Watermill Theatre. We had an excellent experience. The children in our party really enjoyed their meal. Our food was delicious and the staff were super friendly! Thank you for a very happy visit.

Whilst staff were very pleasant they were obviously over stretched so we waited a long time for our order to be ta ken and between courses. I had to attract their attention on a couple of occasions to ask for service as no- one asked if we had everything we needed. Myself and my guest both ordered the mushroom crepes and whilst quite tasty, they had obviously just been heated in a microwave and somewhat over cooked. A disappointing visit on this occasion.

This was our New Years Eve dinner. The welcome, food, wine and service were as wonderful as ever. It cannot be faulted- every time we have a first class experience. The staff are simply outstanding.
