Second visit in around a week, lovely three course dinner with a great carvery, only slight downside was wine was not cold enough. Nice staff.
Went for the 1st time last Thursday and again this Thursday evening, great food and friendly staff .
lovely food nice place clean tidy lots to choose from
Our 1st time at The Fox and everything was great shall be returning.
On this visit we were a party of six . Third visit for four of us, first time for the remaining two. For those of us who had been previously, we had had lovely food and were looking forward to the same again. This is a review very much of mixed views. Our booking was for 2pm and surprisingly for a Saturday was very quiet with only a handful of tables occupied. One party member had carvery which, as on her two previous visits, was exceptional. One member opted for steak ( previously only ever had carvery and was equally pleased with their meal. Two people had the gourmet burger, both said the burger was pretty bland and a bit chewy. My daughter left half of hers and I tried it too, and I have to agree with her. I had the scampi which was lovely, but the chips tasted like oven chips which I’m not a fan of. My big gripe though was that my meal was served on a board! The scampi was in a basket , chips loose on the board and the peas in a little pot . Try eating your peas out of a pot , they go everywhere , I think most of mine ended up on the floor . I couldn’t empty them onto the board, they would have been all over the table. Just what is it with serving meals on boards !! I opted not to ask for it to be plated instead as it would have been going cold , but this is something I would do in the future. The final party member opted for the chicken burger. Unfortunately this was served to him on a mouldy bun !! I know for a fact that brioche buns have a long shelf life so I really don’t know how old this bun was. It was sent back , the meal wasn’t replaced , the bun was just exchanged . The waitress apologised but there was no compensatory offer made , which wasn’t asked for or expected, but would have been a nice gesture. Three had dessert, two were happy with theirs but the third came with the wrong ice cream. On paying the bill, it was clear that errors had been made. The meal deals advertised on the menu hadn’t been applied and we were overcharged. It appeared the gentleman who gave us the bill ( and I’d like to think I’m wrong on this) could see there was a discussion going on about it but he disappeared over to the bar, leaving us to bring it to the attention of our waitress. She went to speak to him and returned with a new bill and a cash refund, saying it happened because he hadn’t sub-totalled the bill, but on returning home the bill is still wrong. After this experience, two say they wouldn’t eat there again, four of us will but just for the carvery.
Food was very good as it normally is but on arrival I found dirty used tissues under the table, dirty table, food on the carpet around the table. Not what I expected from the Fox. Being busy is not an excuse because I was still paying a premium price because it was Mothers day. As soon as we arrived at the table we were asked for our order including deserts, that’s fine so we ordered the carvery and my mother and myself both ordered the ice cream deserts. When we finished eating the carvery the plates were removed and we were asked what flavour ice cream we wanted. My mother just wanted Vanilla and I ordered vanilla and chocolate. A waitress came back shortly afterwards to tell us there was no vanilla ice cream! So ok my mother changed here order to apple pie. Waitress went away and came back only about 30 seconds later to say we could not change the ice cream to apple pie because the ice creams had already been prepared!! How was this possible in 30 seconds and that includes walking to to the kitchen? I sent the waitress away after a few words about how could a restaurant run out of vanilla ice cream. She soon returned with my ice cream which included vanilla! Yes the very thing they no longer had and my moms apple pie. As I said, the food was good bit we left the pub without an apology and I still paid the premium price. Just found another nice pub 10 minutes away we will try next time we eat out. So my message to the Fox is, You work it out!
Our first time here and will definitely be back.... as early as next week quite possibly ! Starters were good, my daughter said the pate was the best she’s ever had . The only downside to my prawn cocktail was the glass bowl it was served in, it kept tipping sideways as it wasn’t very stable. Carvery was fabulous, quite possibly the best carvery we’ve ever had. The meat was melt in the mouth and a good selection of veggies and roasties. Dessert was good too .... we will be back ... very soon. Worth travelling the distance for a great meal and a reasonable price too .
The restaurant is easy to find and has plenty of parking. The restaurant itself is very homely and welcoming, we were seated in the pub-side. Drink & Food order were taken quickly however took a while to arrive. We were disappointed to find that the carvery (which states on the menu finishes at 2pm) was still being served at 3pm, had we known this (we did ask, but were told it finished at 2pm) we would of ordered this. Instead we went for Scampi, Fish & Pie - all large portions and tasted lovely. Towards the end of the meal we kept trying to get the attention of a server however they seemed to be too busy having a chitchat to notice. Would come back again, but think the staff & restaurant need to be clearer on timings.
Served a good plate of tender beef & turkey. But my Uncle was dissappointed as no lamb or venison left. Ate at 5pm so seems you must have to get there early to get full choice of meats. Had booked a table but were in the bar area rather than the restaurant which looked very nice & we would have preferred as our table was very close to a group of 6 so was quite noisy. Would go again if able to book in restaurant or quieter area. Vegs etc all hot & good.
4 of us visited on a busy Sunday when only the carvery was available. There was a choice of beef, turkey and gammon and a good selection of vegetables. We all selected the beef and were each served a generous portion which was tender and well cooked - pink enough to satisfy those who prefer rare but not so pink that it put off those who prefer it more well done. The food was hot and tasty and the vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection. Special mention has to be given to the garlic potatoes - delicious. We all enjoyed our meal and were too full for puddings afterwards .... Good value for money.
