Serving upscale Indian dishes from its sophisticated location inside The Arcadian on Hurst Street in the Chinese Quarter, James Dahl Indian is a dining destination that will change the way you look at Indian cuisine. Utilising all-natural ingredients, seasonal produce and healthy cooking techniques, James Dahl Indian offers dishes that are light and fresh, a stark contrast to the usual heavy, albeit delicious, specialities we’ve come to associate with the Indian kitchen. Begin with starters like the James Special, chicken tikka and sheek kebab cooked in a dry sauce, or the rushani pangas, Bangladesh fish fried with spices, garlic and onions. For your main course, we recommend the saag tikka special, garlic, spinach and marinated chicken all cooked up together in a medley of spices and seasonings, or the vegetarian mushroom bhaji. James Dahl Restaurant is already a huge success and a winner at the 2016 Curry Awards, so be sure to book in advance to secure a table.
Absoluteley top draw, food was exceptional. Would be delighted to go again, service also good but it's the food, so so good Yummm. Five Stars.
Lovely peaceful stylish restaurant in perfect location for theatre. Elegant table setting and beautifully presented delicious food. The service was great too. We'll definitely come back. Thank you.
Excellent service as soon as we walked through the door. The waiting staff are polite, friendly and helpful - quite a rarity in restaurants these days. Food was tasty and plenty of choice. The wine I picked was also excellent. The only thing I’d change next time I visit is sitting in a different area of the restaurant. As it’s quite small and intimate, noise levels got quite high (it was peak time on a Saturday night after all) and my friend and I had to raise our voices a little to hear each other (we were sitting in the area where most of the tables are concentrated). Altogether a great experience though and would definitely go back to try all their other dishes.
Excellent food. Would definitely recommend to anyone who has not been before. Only negative is it is a little hard to find. But got there eventually.
Had been trying to visit JD's for a while now but every time I visited Birmingham the Restaurant was closed, always a Monday, so was delighted to be there on a Friday and Booked online to make sure I got in. For a Friday the whole complex where JD's is located was very quiet as was the restaurant, which is surprisingly smaller than you would expect. Staff were friendly and attentive without being over your shoulder all the time, and the menu was varied with house specialities, I had the ANARKALI which was amongst one of the top Indian dishes I have had (and that's a lot). All in all a great experience and would definitely visit again. That 6th elusive star was let down purely by the ambiance which was a little low key for me, unlike Dishoom hub hub and feel
Our experience was excellent as you can see from the 6,the decor, ambience was lovely,a very extensive menu with all the classics as well as chefs recommendations and new dishes, the waiters were attentive without being intrusive giving us time to peruse the menu and have a pre dinner glass of wine. The most important bit the food was very good ,well presented hot and very tasty, there was three of us who all had different dishes and we all agreed it was excellent. We will definitely be back.
The restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere (lighting, incense, decor) and the staff are very polite. Our food arrived quickly and was delicious. I had picked this restaurant based on the type of cuisine, location and especially because it had great reviews on TripAdvisor. I'm happy that on this occasion it did live up to the reviews; it was a wonderful meal as part of a birthday treat for my best friend.
A wide ranging menu including all the traditional curries and enhanced with some exotic connoisseur offerings. The food is mouthwateringly flavoursome and the staff are eager to ensure your dining experience is of the highest order. This restaurant, in the Arcadian Centre opposite the Hippodrome theatre, is worthy of all its' high praise and reservations are recommended to avoid disappointment.
Best Indian experience i have ever had in the UK. Unbelievably good food, the tastes and smells were amazing. The overall level of professionalism from the staff was great. They were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. If you are ever in Birmingham for any reason you have to try this place. By far the best!
We had a really enjoyable meal. The Menu was varied and the food was delicious. I got the impression the waiter was pretty new to the job as the welcome was slightly awkward introduction and he didn't know what one of the drinks was that we ordered (a shandy). However, this didn't detract from a great meal.
