Red Onion

Another lovely pre-theatre meal at Red Onion. I was unavoidably late by 10 minutes ( which I apologised for) and my friend was already inside, but I was welcomed warmly by a cheerful waitress which I very much appreciated. Beautiful meal, excellent friendly and efficient service and a nice buzz in the restaurant from the other happy diners. I cannot fault Red Onion in any way. The staff are particularly LOVELY. Can’t wait to come back.

Food was amazing, as was the ambience. Owner and chef came out and spoke to all his customers to ensure they were enjoying their meal. A very personal touch.

As always, friendly service and great food. Used a voucher for a 2 course meal each but added drinks and extra dishes.

Starter of pate and oatcakes was delicious but could have done with a bit of dressing over the rocket. Steak frittes was disappointing as steak was fatty and chewy. My husband enjoyed his blade of beef. First time I've not enjoyed The Red Onion.

Itison dining with a two course meal, I am a vegetarian but ordered from the vegan menu, all the food was delicious. Couldn't eat it all and had to take some home

Evening meal before a concert was superb. Everything very fresh ingredients and vegan choices excellent, even for the non vegan. Can’t wait to return.

We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and were given an Itison voucher as a gift. We arrived half an hour early but that wasn't a problem with the staff who cleared a cosy table in the corner for us right away. The restaurant has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and enough space between the tables to feel really private. The food was excellent and beautifully cooked. We both had the scallops with chorizo and the chicken with the korma sauce and delicious tsatziki. Great, friendly service from the staff and we weren't rushed at all. We will definitely return soon. Thanks to our lovely waiting staff.

My wife and I had the pre theatre menu (3 courses). We both had French onion soup and the Spanish style pork then my wife had frozen raspberries with white chocolate sauce and I had fruit crumble. All the courses were served promptly and the food was excellent. Pre food the owner had a wander round the restaurant welcoming everybody with some small chat. The servers were all attentive and polite and looked after us very well. A really good experience and we look forward to our next visit when we visit Glasgow.

I have been here many times before and the food and service has always been first class. This is the first time I have been since the end of the pandemic. I may have picked just the wrong night ( Wednesday 17 April 2024) but first impressions were not good. I was given a table for two at the window. My table was unstable and I had to use a folded paper hankie to steady it. These things can happen but when I saw that the customers at the next table had to do the same it concerned me. The service was really slow albeit it was fairly busy but it took ages to clear away our starter plates before our main course arrived. The quality of what was on offer was good but it had the appearance that both main dishes had been left under some sort of heat for a while which dried out the chicken dish. If fairness the ragu for the pork dish was lovely but if you advertise Patatas Bravos I expect a bit more than boiled potatoes in the ragu. Overall, this was not the finest night but I will go back once more to see if this was just a one off. I certainly hope so.

Used an itison voucher, menu was great, only comment was I had sea bass which was lovely but only 1 fillet and way to much rocket salad , otherwise first class

First visit! Food was amazing, staff were attentive, and definitely value for money. If I was being picky, I'd say it could have been a wee bit warmer - the coal fire looks lovely, but by having a table directly in front of it, it keeps the heat from getting out to other diners.

Received voucher as part of mum's day gift. The food, service and staff was spot on, had scallops followed by pork, portion size was very good, better half had steak, cooked to his liking! Definitely will return, thanks from us to all at Red Onion
