Difficult to put my finger on it but it was just average and I left feeling underwhelmed. Service was mixed - the male on duty looked as if he didn't want to be there and had zero personality while our waitress was excellent. Food was decent but overpriced esp the starters and a restaurant such as this should not be using paper napkins and laminated menus

An amazing vegan starter and main course. Friendly and attentive staff as always. It would be good if they offered vegan menu to diners rather than assuming they want the main one, some might prefer the choice

The food was wonderful- imaginative menu. The restaurant was extremely busy with Christmas diners - this did not affect the efficiency and professionalism of the waitresses. However, we were given quite a few subtle reminders that our table was needed.

A very enjoyable lunch and I am sure we will back. While there was not a large selection in the lunch menu what there was was very appealing.

Fantastic restaurant. Food and service was great! Couldn’t fault it at all. John came over and had a chat with us despite being quite busy which for me is always nice touch in a restaurant. Fantastic!

Lovely restaurant - relaxed and informal but with food and service usually found in a much more formal setting - a great choice!

Delicious, perfectly cooked food, especially the octopus dish which just melted in the mouth. Lovely wines and their own beer! Service very prompt and efficient. A great experience.

The meal was good but menu was much the same as last year’s . Place looks very tired and could do with refurb. Might change venue for next year’s annual catch-up for me and my cousins.

Quite nice restaurant, food was nice, not amazing but good nevertheless. Good atmosphere. Service was ok, not great, felt like we were being a nuisance just asking for more drinks. They did it of course just missing the friendliness I find in other places. Don’t think I’ll be a regular but I will be back & would still recommend people to give it a try

Red Onion is a great venue. Food was all good, at least 8 out of 10 which for us is excellent. The staff are the real stars of this restaurant. Friendly, helpful and don't hassle you. Small selection of wines and quite expensive but that's not unusual for a city restaurant. Atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed.

Lovely place, really nice food and efficient, friendly staff - what more could you ask for?? Will definitely be back soon to try the taster menu or the a la carte. We had pre theatre tonight which still offered great choice but some of the other menus looked scrumptious!! Can't wait!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this restaurant. The menu was good and varied. The ambience was good. We liked the fact that there were booths so that we felt private even though other tables close. Food was excellent. No quibbles.

Meal was very mediocre. Starter of pate was wet & soggy. 3 of the ladies toilets were unusable . Plus one of the two which were in use had a broken lock. The paint & decor in the toilets was badly needing updated. Not a good experience at all.

We were very pleased with the quality of the food and the service. Also the restaurant has an excellent vegan menu and is able to accommodate various dietary restrictions which was great for our group.

The food was delicious, well presented and definitely very flavoursome. A great range of choice on the vegan )for me) and non-vegan (for my guest) menus. The restaurant is homely and beautifully decorated, the curtains are just fab, and the log fire burning inside with the cold darkness outside, makes it just fantastically relaxing and comforting. The service was great, we managed to have our meal from arriving at 6pm and leaving at 7,20pm so that we could make it to the King's Theatre on time for our show. Would loved to have stayed longer and definitely will go back. They also offer a taster menu where you can try a selection of dishes. Could happily go here as a regular reliable delightful "go to" restaurant that you could take friends and colleagues to.

The overall experience was good, however, the pork ( which was a replacement for the burger which had run out ) left something to be desired. The pork was about 1/3rd gristle and not nice to eat at all - not what I would expect from an establishment such as the Red Onion. The other food was good and the service also very good. I was surprised that we ere not offered some compensation for the poor pork. I should probably have refused to eat the pork.
