We went at lunchtime and loved it. Food is fantastic, great value for money and portions big. Staff are very professional and attentive but not in the hovering way or asking if you are enjoying the food when you have just stuck a forkful in your mouth :). Highly recommend. Will definitely go back.
Excellent pre-theatre, well worth a visit, good varied choice, great service and well balanced flavours and freshness, could not fault any of the courses, superb!!
My first time at red onion One of the tastiest sirloin steaks i have had. Nice venue with friendly attentative staff Will return in the future
Great food and wine at reasonable prices...always something different and unique. Portions really well sized. Service also good and the chef comes to check you liked the food :-)
Food and service both excellent. Good choice on pre-theatre menu, and house wine reasonably priced. Restaurant busy on a Tues night, which is a re commendation in itself!
Food and service was great, Afternoon service, but could have been more ambiance. Lost a mark for being sat next to an untidy service station.
Great food, attentive staff, good ambience. It's the number one choice for our ladies' lunches, and the set-lunch menu is changed regularly. Brilliant value too!
Excellent food, staff were very attentive and friendly. Lovely decor and great ambiance. Could not fault this restaurant in the slightest. Would definitely visit again and would definitely recommend to friends. Overall an amazing dining experience
The duck was perfectly cooked, reasonable price, great atmosphere and great choice. Friendly welcome, the food was incredible, the flavours of the duck and steak were well balanced, the cheesecake dessert also a real highlight. I started with the Crab and Prawns and again these were cooked to perfection.
A lovely meal last night at The Red Onion. Lovely friendly staff and superb food especially the cheesecake with the caramelised banana. I would have given this restaurant a 6 however they were unable to make a mini beef burger for my two year old grandson. Come on John Quigley I'm sure you could have risen to this request! Overall a lovely meal enjoyed by all.
Food was very good. We were sitting upstairs and as the restaurant got busy when the staff were coming upstairs with orders they were not looking around to see if any other tables needed attention. Perhaps a little more attention required. A very little niggle. Have been to this restaurant before and enjoyed hence our return visit.
Staff nice but very disappointed with food. Had Steak frite. The steak was the worst I have ever eaten, very poor quality meat with freezer chips. Dessert was equally poor. Too many tables crammed into the mezzanine level. I won't be back!
Very relaxing friendly atmosphere with service to match. A great menu with plenty of variety. Enjoyed that there were at least 2 vegetarian options for main.
From the moment we walk through the door we were greeted with a very friendly staff Drinks were order straight away and our food was order and taken by a chatty staff member during the main course we were asked by various staff members if we were enjoying our meal between courses staff came and talked to us and on leaving all said good bye
Great food, fantastic wine list, relaxed atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. Well worth a visit
The food was lovely and service was great especially as 2 of our party have food allergies and we had additional questions about the menu.
Red Onion always provides Consistently great food, over the years, in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. pleasant and friendly staff and good service, always my 'go to' restaurant in Glasgow. Highly recommended
Walked in to a warm friendly atmosphere where the staff welcomed you with a smile before serving a delicious lunch. What more do you need?
This is my second visit to the restaurant and I loved the food. Warm welcome when we entered the restaurant and the food is amazing.
It wasn't as good as expected, main courses were okay but nothing special, the gluten free crumble was a total joke, the "crumble" was smashed up ginger biscuits as found in supermarket. The results were therefore too pricey for what it was, which was a real shame. We wouldn't go back
Lovely main courses for lunch 2/3 of the starters were also very nice (Goats Cheese and Asparagus Soup), the only slight issue was that the Thai Fish Cake starter was had fish cakes which were really dense (more akin to chicken), not really the texture I would expect to a Thai Fish cake.
Very nice surroundings, lunchtime menu very reasonable for price but disappointed not sufficient in one of courses for both of us. Quality of food excellent.
Food delightful, service great. Only issue - as soon as we sat down we were told we needed to be out by 6pm. Surely tables could just be managed rather than telling people they are on a time limit?
One of the most important parts of eating out for me is to firstly feel comfortable in my surroundings and in Red Onion this was true. The service and the food were outstanding, very friendly staff who gave our party plenty of time to deliberate the menu. The icing on the cake was to meet John Quigley - its good to know that it matters to him that his customers are well catered for. Will definitely visit again, perhaps for an evening meal next time.
Great service. The chef came out to ask how we enjoyed our meal. The food was excellent and really great value! I would definitely recommend!
superb food reasonably priced, all my guests enjoyed their meal and the surroundings. Excellent service and interesting menu. Staff very efficient and unphased by the restaurant being busy. Would thoroughly recommend.
I loved it here, friendly staff in a pleasant atmosphere, the food was really great and a good selection of wines was available. I will be going back when I can for sure.
Friendly, very attentive staff and delicious food. As a sufferer of coeliac disease I have rather specific dietary needs. They provided a gluten free menu with an excellent choice on both pretreatre and a la carte for me. They took time and care which gave me confidence. I will be returning for another visit.
We had been at Red Onion before when visiting Glasgow and had an excellent meal, and on this latest visi they certainly didn't disappoint. Another superb meal, so we know where we'll eat again next time we're here.
Food and service always spot on. Wonderful to go to a restaurant with so many fantastic vegan choices. We actually rebooked for dinner later in the week before we left
First time we had been there. The decor, the staff and the food were all lovely. We were most impressed with the fact that our vegan son had a whole menu of vegan choices, not just the one veggie option that is normally on offer in restaurants. We will definitely be back.
Fabulous meal and the staff are always so attentive! One of my most favourite restrurants In Glasgow and never disappointed with the food. I'm still dreaming about my chocolate brownie dessert
We booked online. The restaurant was almost fully booked and we couldn't get our first choice of time. A good sign I suppose although irritating. One must be aware that nowadays Glasgow is blessed with a huge variety and number of excellent restaurants. We were greeted almost immediately when we entered and taken to our table and offered drinks. The place was packed and buzzing with seemingly happy dinners. This was at 5.30pm. The decor is practical, you can chat to neighbouring dinners if you are in the mood. All diners were nicely dressed but certainly not formally. No tattoos were visible (I'm slightly offended by this practice) The staff are friendly and helpful. The menu wide ranging. The food was tasty and the portions generous. We were told that the chef was the owner/proprietor, John Quigley. We would certainly return but would ensure to book early in order to obtain a table at a time we desired. All-in-all a pleasant experience.
Gluten free and fine dining was the attraction but disappointing quality of service and food for a restaurant in this price category. Will not be back.
Exceptional service and food. Invited a group of 25 guests who enjoyed your food, wine & exceptional service. Jo Taylor Tour Manager Captain's Choice Australia
Chose this place deliberately for its extensive gluten-free menu as dining with coeliac friend and she was v impressed with the variety on offer. Staff were all very helpful. All in all, great city centre venue with a strong customer focus.
Enjoyed everything. Only criticism was that the beef could have done with another half hour slow cook to make it slightly more tender. The fat / gristle should have melted and added to the overall flavour of the otherwise lovely dish.
Excellent food, good service. Definitely a recommendation for friends. Prices were reasonable and the 3 for £16.95 deal was well worth the money, steaks were cooked perfectly.
Great food, and very friendly attentive staff. We had reserved a table but luckily it was quiet at the time of arrival. In and out within an hour, great lunch service. Thank you!
Had set lunchtime menu. Very good food at reasonable price all served by a very friendly and attentive staff. Definitely recommend and will be back.
Excellent service, the special lunch menu is very good value, food served quickly, and very tasty. Good venue for a quick lunch in the city
Excellent food we were spoilt for choice, could have had everything on the menu. The staff were very friendly and helpful they helped make the evening very enjoyable.
Beautiful food and excellent service ....even on a last Minute Saturday night booking. It was a lovely evening and very reasonably priced considering the standard of food which was served.
Great food, seasonal and delicious. The menus offered a good variety of options. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food arrived promptly. Nice lively atmosphere.
First time visiting the Red Onion. Restaurant was recommended to me by a friend and I was not disappointed. My partner and I had a lovely meal. The staff were friendly and attentive. We would definitely go back again for another meal.
We go here regularly and the food and service is consistently excellent. The vegan menu is fantastic, and I'm assured by the non vegans, that the regular menu is of a very high standard. Good range of wines by the glass and overall excellent value for money. Absolutely recommend - particularly to vegans.
Great ambience, tasty food, service ok, prices reasonable. Recommend for a relaxed enjoyable meal. We were seated by an open door and were cold, but staff reseated us in a warmer area which was fine, but if it had been busier with no other available tables, we might have wished we had worn warmer clothes! Liked that it is very light and spacious.
Work Dinner. Really nice food as usual with a great priced pre theatre menu. Enjoyed by everyone. I did not order from the pre theatre as my favourite dish in Red Onion is the Lobster Spaghetti at £23 it is expensive, however worth every penny it is absolutely delicious. I have to give the chocolate brownie a mention too - delicious. Although this was not my first visit to Red Onion it was for my 3 co workers, all 3 had a lovely time and have said they would be back.
Fantastic surrounding, excellent food, lovely atmosphere and very professional and friendly staff, we weren't rushed a very relaxing lunch.Great variety of food on menu. Would highly recommend this restaurant never fails to deliver
Again first class food and service. Seriously enjoyed the special of surf and turf with lobster beyond words. Always love our meals there. If you have not been go.
