Perfect in every way, we really want to visit the restaurant again, and will
This lovely little place never disappoints. Food was superb and the service friendly but never intrusive. Will be back very soon.
Route 5 is an excellent restaurant that serves authentic Italian food with the emphasis on dishes from Sicily and the Abruzzo region. The owners have a genuine passion for what they are doing and this shows in the quality and flavour of the food, the friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. All of their dishes are good and they cook their pasta to perfection - al dente, perfect. Their prices are really good value too. Route 5 offers a good selection of regional wines (Sicilian and from the Abruzzo region) and also serves cocktails as a bonus! Route 5 is an important addition to Southend-on-Sea's culinary scene. Buon appetito!
I have given up writing reviews about restaurants but I feel I must make an exception in this case. Route 5 is more of a trattoria than a ristorante and the relaxed atmosphere combined with a menu containing dishes not usually seen in Italian restaurants in Southend. The house wine is reasonable quality and good value and the cocktail menu is worth exploring. We will return.
Another great meal at this wonderful restaurant. Route 5 offers excellent 'home made' dishes, that are simply delicious. Had the whole Sea Bass today, which is baked in the oven with tomato salsa, vegetables, rosemary and garlic - what a lovely dish! Others had the pasta which is always cooked to perfection. Great place, great food at reasonable prices.
We spent a very pleasant evening at Route 5, couldn't fault anything, a really good and varied menu, we were spoilt for choice, the food was cooked to perfection, the cocktails went down well too! I rarely have three courses, but made an exception as it was all too good to miss out on. Would definitely go again.
This was our sixth visit to Route 5 which we love for its excellent food and warm friendly service. It is only a small restaurant in not the best position, but it is so good to see it doing well and we are always happy to recommend it to friends.
As always the food was delicious and I love the 'single sitting' rule as well... There's no rushing to free up tables and get the next customers in....Once you're seated, well, you're there for as long as YOU want to be which means you can really take time to relax, enjoy a little slice of Sicily and truly savour the wonderful food, especially their homemade soups which are always packed with flavour. I do wonder if the prices need to be adjusted.... They seem far too reasonable.... £65 for 3 courses for 3 people.... Amazing value!!
