Enjoyed the Teatime special, food was delicious. It's cheaper to take your own bottle of wine and pay the £6 corkage.

Unfortunately this place has really gone downhill. We used to go maybe three or four times per year for special occasions because we had to drive nearly 4 hour round trip to get there but loved it so much. The wonderful front of house guy has gone so the atmosphere now is very flat and quite intimidating at times. For example, we ordered prawn crackers and what arrived was non-prawn flavoured deep fried wonton skins and when I questioned it, I got told they were homemade and store bought ones weren’t vegan which is a lie because we buy vegan ones all the time as most prawn crackers now don’t use crustacean to flavour they use flavouring. And from then on, the older members of staff kept giving us horrible stares and then laughing amongst themselves. The waitress even made a comment to the only other table so we could hear saying “some people just don’t understand about the crackers” which was unnecessary. All the food has gone downhill. The satay sauce tasted more like Chinese curry, the crispy chilli beef (which was always one of our favourites) was like deep fried noodles with no filling, the soup was bland but the good points; the seaweed, special fried rice and the prawn toast was lovely. When we used to go, the place was so busy, the phone ringing all the time and takeaway orders flying so something has obviously changed and it’s a shame because they were our favourite restaurant in the UK to eat at. Hence why we’d travel so far and pay for accommodation purely to visit there. We’ll never go back.
