Steax Bar & Brasserie

On this particular occasion I took my mother there for her birthday. We were seated shortly after arriving and waited around 5 minutes before getting the menu. We very quickly decided what we wanted to eat but it took around 10 minutes for us to be served despite it being quiet and also waiving to try get the waiters attention. Once we were served we were then told we couldn't order any starters, sides or deserts and the only things we could order were from the main course menu as they had turned off the cookers. We asked the waiter to ask if the chef could make an exception but come back very quickly and said no. So we placed our order for the main course and as I was unhappy at least because we were not told on arrival that they would only be serving main courses, I asked to speak to the manager. At first the manager was quite abrupt but then after explaining it was my mothers birthday he changed his tone and was very apologetic but could not override what the chef had said and as a result compensated us with a bottle of house champagne. I was still not happy particularly as the manager also appeared to be drunk. I haven't returned since and it may be a very long while before i do again. It's a shame as this use to be the first place I would recommend to anyone but it has gone really down hill!!

Amazing 5 star food which compromises the price. Outstanding table service and very friendly staff. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, I will definitely be going back.

Make sure you eat downstairs in the bar as there was no atmosphere upstairs in the restaurant, also the decor nicer downstairs. Food really good and staff very friendly

Great food and attentive service. Great choice of steaks and burgers and very reasonably priced. Lots of outdoor seating by the river - great spot in the summer

Disappointed you can no longer eat outside. Half lobster was ok, but not that tasty, maybe from frozen? Chips were good, but sadly this restaurant is quite expensive for what you get. Maybe try a steak next time. Service friendly but slow.

Not planning to go back, meat was far from expected , poor service , swearing in Portuguese by one of the staff... not a good experience altogether

A great place right on the river, wasn't expecting too much but the steak was fantastic, melt in the mouth! Sides were generous, deserts were OK too! all round good evening.

Great place god food, but the staff should be more nice, that sad faces is not what I'm looking for a place where I want to spend money and time. And should not do any pressures to make me leave my table

Great steak, although more like well done than medium. Music a bit loud, more like a disco than a quiet meal out. Not like the experience two years ago.

Excellent food in a lovely location. Filet steak was amazing. There are other comments about smoke at the venue; this is only in the outside seating area. Large indoor seating area where you won't experience this.

Wine menu was incorrect and the steak menu inaccurate and misleading. The quality of the food and wine was high and the waitress was good, although the sommelier/bar manager lacked understanding of his customer's concerns.

At 1pm on a Thursday we were told a pizza was not possible as the restaurant Italian chief was not there. As Pizza options were a good portion of their menu this was disappointing.

Possibly the best steaks we've ever had. Excellent service, and a lovely setting - sat outside, right by the Thames. Couldn't fault it - will definitely come again.

Poor service and undercooked onion rings we had to send back. Tasty calamari, lobster and good quality steak. All sides cost extra! Second round of drinks took ages to come and they weren't that busy!

Worst experience I have ever had. Staff where awful , rude and were not trained at all. All our orders came out incorrectly and they manager was so rude he told us we where not welcome.

The food here is very good but the service is not. After booking on Quandoo, I was telephoned by the manager to tell me that they 'Do not reserve tables outside and was I just coming to smoke shisha?' I confirmed we were coming to eat (Wednesday night) and he said they had 'allocated a table' for me. On arrival we had to look for someone to give us a table and they did. The waitress seemed to have trouble with English (OK, so people are new and often quite new to Uk so we are used to this) but we asked for beer that was on the menu and none of the 'bitter' type beer was available - 'we do not have those beers' . Then we had to repeat every item we ordered 2 or 3 times. We are courteous people and were patient about this. The food was fine but when we were finished eating the waitress came and started to take away our wine glasses without asking whether we wanted anything else - we requested the desert menu and she left the glasses and went away to get desert menus. We waited some time with the menus but as no-one came back to take our order we gave up and grabbed a passing waiter to ask for the bill. 12.5% service charge was automatically added to the bill and we did not bother to make a fuss but this is by far the worst service I have experienced in a restaurant for ages. We crossed the river to a good local pub and ordered desserts from their menu. The resturant experience spoiled our evening. I would never recommend this restuarant to anyone.

I book a table for 4 people at 22:15.. But when I came in the restaurant the manager said that the kitchen was closed .. I show to him the reservation but he said that wasn't his fall and if was so necessary to order very quickly .. Like a mc donalds. We left the restaurant whitout order and we'll never come back..So.. A shame

The food was ok but the service was terrible and it ruined our night. 4 of us went for a late birthday dinner that was booked well in advance and we where all very disappointed with the staff.

Food was fine, nothing special. They'd run out of some steaks (early on a Friday evening) and don't have sweet potato fries. Avoid the house sauce which seemed greasy. Service was good though!

Fabulous night with a group of six girlfriends. Gorgeous cocktails in the bar and a fantastic feast in the restaurant. The food was excellent - amazing burrata, carpaccio and chilli squid to start followed by steaks all round which were cooked to perfection. Service was superb and it's a great location right on the river. We will definitely return.

Not great - will not rush back. Didn't have half the things listed on the menu and the waiter was not hugely helpful. very average

2nd time going this restaurant. 1st time was great we really had a nice meal and great service., This time was quite poor. We waited quite some time for each course. When our main course arrived it was cold. The steaks which we both ordered, my partner's being a super sized t-bone (and quite expensive) was not cooked to his order and neither was mine, we were to hungry to send it back as it took ages to come out. We had different staff serving us on each order, and when our orders came out the waiter didn't know which table the orders were for...and the worse part was when we paid and left the waiter with security came running out after us shouting if we had his copy/part of the bill, like we were cheating them out of their money!!! We told him to check the bill that he had put in his mouth to go serve someone else!!! He apologied but we were not happy with our treatment and complained. Steax you need to fix up...I won't be coming back for sometime if at all......

Great location, lovely outlook onto the river. Put under great pressure to order, the same waiter asked if we were ready to order within 60 seconds of 1st asking. Didn't get receipt as system down, promise of email hasn't materialised

Surprisingly rubbish behaviour from the stuff, they were light-minded. We had to ask them several times for anything we wanted. We were expected for something very different than that. The restaurant is beautiful and elegant, that is why we were very surprised.

THE FOOD WAS VERY NICE, THE PLACE IS VERY COMFORTABLE AND THE SERVICE WAS GOOD TOO. RECOMMENDED FOR DINNER ... A 10 !! I WILL GO AGAIN FOR SURE.

One of my favourite restaurants . Lobster and oysters are amazing! Defo recommend to a friend .. We will be back again soon I hope.

When we first arrived the waiter service was pretty poor, we waited 20 minutes to be served drinks then another 20 to get the drinks. We mentioned this to the manager and we were given another waiter who was great. He made sure we were all okay and checked in with us regularly. The food was amazing also. Would definitely go back for the food and hopefully we will get better service from the start.

Nice restaurant, excellent service and well prepared meals. But they did not have a record of my reservation, likely as it was very quite they managed to fit us in.

It is a nice and quiet place. The service is very good service but I thought it was a little bit more expensive than I expected

We deliberately booked early as we'd expected the evening to be busy. Very very happy with the level of service. The staff were attentive, helpful and a pleasure. Our food arrived very quickly was cooked perfectly. Thoroughly enjoyable experience overall and we look forward to dining with them again in the near future.

Went there for lunch with friends, we placed our order for pizzas and pasta to be told that these are not available at lunchtime you have to have from the grill i.e. steaks, burgers etc. We suggested that they either produce a separate menu for lunch or marked on the menu and the website that these were not available during lunchtime. When we selected a house wine, which was suggested by the waiter, we asked for a bottle as listed on the menu but he advised us it was only available by the glass not by the bottle, well why advertise it on the menu and recommend as well! Finally my friend ordered banoffi pie after being told her two other options were not available and when it arrived the bananas were black and had to be sent back.

Amazing food amazing service... Go to Steax and you won't be disappointed. Me and my partner went for our anniversary meal and the service was brilliant, couldn't of been nicer and the food was great - overall a brilliant visit and I shall be returning when back in London!

This was my first time to Steax Bar, me and my family had a lovely evening, food was delicious, staff friendly and professional. The atmosphere was relaxing, it wasn't crowded but enough people to make you feel it was a Saturday night. Would highly recommended.
