Food was excellent, great menu choice. Service was excellent, very helpful and efficient despite restaurant being busy? A great place to eat, drink and meet up with friends.
Intriguing venue in a central location but, as the name suggests, you need to be able to climb stairs! Good food, helpful and friendly staff. Good value too.
Very enjoyable lunch , friendly staff and good food. The restaurant is very pleasant and had a very nice set lunch menu with good choice of wines and beers.
Amazing small restaurant, food was outstanding and the staff were ever so friendly and helpful. That's my second visit and will definitely be back next time I visit Edinburgh. Excellent 👍🏻
most of the dishes we ordered were too heavily salted and my chips were cut very unevenly in size (and not uniformly cooked through as a result).
Fantastic restaurant right in the heart of the city. The food was excellent, the staff were the most attentive I've ever experienced and the surroundings were beautiful. We will definitely be coming back and I would highly recommend a visit.
Good traditional Scottish menu and friendly staff. The service was really quick. And the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever had. Would definitely recommend.
Food and service were excellent. Venison cooked to perfection. Homemade rum & raisin ice cream was excellent. Definitely a place to visit when in Edinburgh
The people next to us where completely drunk and loud that we could not even understand each other's while we were speaking. The food was delicious
Food and evening was excellent. Problems with electronic payment system made this part of the evening frustrating. Glad we were not running for a train
Making the reservation was easy and the table was ready. I had completely overlooked the fact that there would be Christmas parties in progress and the noise (at first) was deafening. However, I enjoyed the atmosphere. The food (sweet potato soup, chicken with haggis stovies) that I ate was very good. In the circumstances the service was outstanding. Stephanie (university student) and Lorna were very attentive. Well done!
Superb food and excellent, friendly service. Highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to visiting again soon. Excellent value for money and convenient city centre location
Excellent Scottish food with a divers menu. Service was friendly and prompt. Value was outstanding, other equal meals were 4 times the price...great local gem.
we will be back. next time we Are in Edinburgh. see u soon. food so so so so good. and the service is so so good.
Very noisy under the low ceilings at the side. Bit of a wait between courses. Food generally good but puddings a disappointment. Wine Reasonably priced and quite pleasant.
A fantastic Scottish restaurant it is just off the royal mile, the food was wonderful and the place is full of ambience, the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable, we have eaten here every time we go to Edinburgh. a nice restaurant to visit and eat.
Food and service was great. We sat upstairs, there are only 3 tables though. Originally, we were going to sit downstairs, but our table wasn't quite ready as we had only just booked 30 minutes before. We were glad to just stay upstairs as the noise level was so great downstairs. Not just people, but music that was foreground not background. How does this music help the dining experience I wonder? Would go back as food was really good, but not on a Saturday night.
Great informal dinner with friends. Food was good and decent value. Food and drinks menu were both varied with pleny of choice. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable.
Lovely food and fantastic service. Between the fifive of us we had a range of dishes and they were all exceptional. I could not rate this restaurant higher.
Good service, well presented food (veggie haggis burger - very good), and liked the decor. Below Street level, but plenty of light from large windows. Recommended!
The staff were very welcoming and we received great service throughout the evening. The quality of food was also good and the prices very reasonable.
We loved the menu and all our party of 6 enjoyed their choices. The lentil soup was bland as the venison a little cold, but these are small points. We had a lovely evening and will definitely go back. Cullen skink is awesome
The service was really good and so was the food , we would definitely come back and recommend to family and friends. The atmosphere was good the staff didn't rush you to get out
The Cellar Door is without a doubt one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh. The atmosphere and staff are both very welcoming, and the staff extremely knowledgeable about the food on offer. I had Cauliflower Three Ways, followed by butternut squash and red pepper risotto with blue cheese pearls, followed by Highland Sticky Toffee pudding, all of which were delicious! Would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning, hopefully sooner rather than later!
The food was very good and well made with nice takes on Scottish dishes. The service was excellent and would definitely recommend a visit to The Cellar Door
Delicious food with prompt and polite service! Great knowledge of gluten free / coeliac which is invaluable. Highly recommend for a good Scottish dinner in central Edinburgh
Nice quiet atmosphere. Food was very competent although we felt that a couple of dishes would have benefitted from a little "more" i.e. another ingredient or more of an existing one. Service was a touch on the down-beat side.
acoustic Approvement. Overall very Nice impression of restaurant. Very opservant Waiter and Quick serving. Very good cooked food - great time to enjoy a Well cooked meal visiting Edinbough
Very busy restaurant but the staff seemed to be in control. A young clientele and a buzzy atmosphere. Great fun, with a very reasonably priced and quite short menu. As it was Edinburgh I had a haggis burger - my first !
Amazing food. I had the burger which was honestly top 3 of my life. My boyfriend had the steak which he also raved about. Friendly attentive service. Will definitely be back.
Great service! Was not much necessary with booking at the time. But during the busy hours, it is probably best to be prepared and get reservation number.
We ate from the Dinner Menu, which provided a good selection from which to choose, the food was well presented and beautifully cooked. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Excellent evening. Food and service was very good. I had haggis spring roll to start and venison for main. Both dishes were excellent. Also good value for money. My wife and I both had an aperitif, a starter, main course and one bottle of red wine. The bill came to £82. Would certainly go back.
Rather mediocre but reasonably priced food served in a rather soulless atmosphere. Waitress was brusque to the point of rudeness (though it was unconscious on her part) - seemed in a constant hurry to move us on to the next course and then to pay the bill.
Very good food, maybe a smaller portion but okay for normal eaters I guess. Service was very friendly, visit was lovely! I will be back!
Good food and Excellent and helpful service. If we weren't in town for only 3 days, it would be a place we would go to again
Have been a few times and the food is nice but the service was very disappointing. Not friendly or in anyway engaging. Unlikely to be back
Very nice food, but portion sizes, for each of our party of 3, were small. The evening I felt was spoiled by the restaurant lights being put on, this despite a party just arriving, and also the staff carrying crates of empty bottles past us several times whilst we ate dessert. A real shame.
The food was nice, good size potions, and the waitress was pleasant and attentive, but the temperature of the restaurant was too hot which made it a bit uncomfortable
The food was incredible absolutely bursting with flavour. 4 things stood out in particular; Haggis Spring rolls, mussels in white wine sauce, Pork Belly and the absolutely mouth watering vegetarian lentil and walnut cakes! As a fairly picky vegetarian I am always hesitant but liked the sound of the meal with crispy Kale and I couldn't have left any happier! Would recommend to anyone but vegetarians will love this option too! (Sound question below is irrelevant as the atmosphere was ideal!)
We had a lovely evening at the Cellar Door. The menu was innovative and everything we ordered was delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely go back.
The service was quick and very friendly. They don't have a great selection of main courses but the options avalable are good and well made. I will definitively come back.
Had a very enjoyable meal with some great food, nice surroundings and friendly and knowledgeable staff. Had to change our reservation by half an hour and this was no problem to them. Would recommend wholeheartedly.
Great service. Lovely food. Pleasant atmosphere in which to host a visitor. Thank you. I don't have anything more to add today but would return.
Fantastic place. Food service atmposphere is first class. Excellent value for money. We needed to be served quick as we had to be at theatre and service was spot on
The food was delicious and nicely presented. The staff were helpful and attentive. The restaurant had an inviting atmosphere despite the unusual entrance down the stairs.
!Lovely meal, friendly staff.Would recommend it.This was our first visit but will probably return on our next visit to Edinburgh. Great !ocation just off the Royal Mile
Wonderful food in a cozy atmosphere. Super service. Had the haggis springroll, cockaleekie chicken, and creme brulee with a cup of espresso. An absolutely perfect meal. So, so happy right now.
We had a lovely meal, great food and great service. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere too. I recommend the haggis spring rolls to start.
Excellent food and service at reasonable prices. Great wine list too and good value for a city centre restaurant. Our second time there and whilst it does attract a large volume of tourists the food is first class. We will definitely be back.
