Friendly service and great choice of food and wine, including daily specials. Visited in the evening but would be good to go back for lunchtime tapas.

Very nice food in a great location for the theatre and a nice ambience . The food is freshly cooked so do allow enough time.

Standard maintained at this restaurant - good service and food. There is a fair amount of choice on the menu but not too much, which means usually that the ingredients are fresh and not out of the freezer.

Amazing. Great wine recommendations and the food was amazing! The waiter and owner were very kind and even gave us a sample of a lovely Italian wine. Fully recommend.

Polite staff, excellent service, delicious food. They dealt with two dietary requirements efficiently and without problems. Just one small niggle: we found out later that they had a special pre-theatre menu, which would have enabled us to have the same food at a lower price. Our theatre tickets were for a matinee; I understand that their special deal is advertised more clearly in the evenings. we will go to the Chancel again, but will check any special deals more carefully in future!

It was a lovely meal. Atmosphere was good as well. The tables are a bit too close. Maybe a bit privacy would have been nice.

Our second visit to the Chancel and just as enjoyable. Informative, friendly staff and the food is delicious. A great place to visit before or after the theatre, which is just a short walk away.

The food here is very good. Quite creative and well-presented. Staff are excellent and seem genuinely interested and knowledgeable. Wine choices are also excellent and competitively priced.

The food was excellent. Two of us had the fish pie and I had the special, pan fried hake, all of which were delicious. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Great food and excellent service, we have been before and this place never disappoints. We would recommend the restaurant but you should book to avoid being disappointed.

Fantastic food, wine, company and ambiance. I cannot think of anywhere better in Plymouth to eat out and the cost is very reasonable too for such great quality.

Great welcome, good food. Disappointed that my food choices weren’t available and I wasn’t told until another dish arrived. No apology. But food was good. Service then went down. Shame because I do like this little bistro.

The staff are always very welcoming and attentive. The steak was cooked exactly to our liking and was outstanding. We will undoubtedly return again very soon.

The Chancel was the perfect venue for my graduation family celebration. The food was fantastic and they went the extra mile at every step to make sure everything was perfect. Couldn't possibly fault them

A nice welcome upon arrival. Service was very friendly. Good menu both the number of options, large selection of starters & mains including a good selection of fish courses. A place definitely worth a visit.

The whole experience was excellent, starting with the local gins! Food was beautifully cooked and well presented. Service was friendly and attentive without being over the top and the final bill seemed very reasonable.

Our first time at this restaurant but it won't be our last - lovely quiet atmosphere with kind and helpful staff. Had a brilliant meal - nothing too fancy but perfectly cooked and thoroughly enjoyed by both of us.

The Chancel manages to keep up a good standard despite the fact that Paula wasn't there this time. Our meals were very well cooked and the young staff did their best to keep the service and general ambience going.

The food is great, consistent quality whenever you visit and the staff are lovely. They are friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is great whether you visit at lunchtime or in the evening. Another plus is it’s close proximity to the Theatre which is 5 minutes walk away.

Perfect pre-theatre supper. Lovely light battered fish and portion size perfect. Staff were friendly and caring without being intrusive. We look forward to going again.

My first visit ,I found the actual environment very calming and nice. The food was absolutely delicious good selection of gluten free and was brought to the table very promptly by the waitress. I so enjoyed our visit that I have booked a table for my husbands birthday on Saturday !
