Reviewed on Trip Advisor - but amazing. Great food, ambience, service and wine. We are definitely going to return at some point. Oh, and we ordered from the pre-theatre menu which was excellent and good value.

Really friendly welcome, lovely ambience. and attentive service. Great wine menu, we had a lovely Pinot Grigio. And the food was amazing. My wife loved the starter special home made scampi with curried sauce, whilst I had the pate which was very nice. I had the pork belly and my wife had the lamb rump, for mains, both dishes as was all the food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. For desert we had sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream, which was very nice. We left the restaurant full a little tipsy and very happy with the dining experience we had just had. Would definitely dine here again. Many thanks

Great little wine bar with excellent food. Very relaxing atmosphere - I went with my two best friends and it was quiet enough to chat without feeling like everyone can hear your conversation. Lovely friendly management team too. I would highly recommend this place for a cosy meal.

Great food friendly staff, a must go to in Plymouth. One of my favourite spots, pre theatre or an evening out. A great quiz on a Monday night I think

We sat downstairs where there are just a few tables, more importantly its a phone free area which means you only get the sounds of quiet conversation. This combine this with really good food, toffee pudding has to be the lightest I’ve ever tasted, an pleasent attentative staff and you have a good dining experience.

Delicious food, and great service. Waitresses were lovely. I had the Sea Bass and scallops and it was perfect. Unfortunately, it was quite cold in the back room where we sat even though the put heaters in there. Would definitely go back.

I went for a long lunch with my wife and it was fantastic. We had Tappas to start and they were superb we had the meatballs, patatas bravas, paprika beef, chorizo and honey this was an excellent choice and very very tasty. Service was superb, kind and staff were happy to help. Lots of good wine to be had. My wife had sea bass and scallops and I had the fillet steak with a pear and walnut salad. Both mains were beautiful to look at and even better to eat top marks. We had been there for over an hour by now and no sign of anyone hurrying us up, thankyou. My wife had a lovely light pudding to finish, then a great cup of coffee followed by a final glass of red. \What a great meal and lovely dining experience, well worth a visit.

The food was very good but I feel the staff need a little training in the finer points of service. While it is a lovely place to be it took a while to get served and the owners are lovely. The wines as ever are great.

They were very busy when we arrived and warned there would be a long wait but offered bread and olives which was nice. It did however take 30mins for us to be offered even a drink and I had to ask for a menu. The fish cakes I had were very nice and pate my husband had was fine. The Kilmer jars the pate came in really is a faff. The main was some time coming and the plates were cold. Steak was fine although blue rather than rare and seafood platter was ok but a bit greasy. The waitresses were friendly but please, when you clear a table take everything off the small table. I was taught never heave a table empty handed and remove any unwanted clutter. Still has starter dishes on table through out meal and had to ask for cutlery. Lots of people standing at bar which was hindering waitresses access to kitchen which was downstairs as the space was very confined. What I assumed was the owner was standing at the bar drinking wine and talking; he could have been more attentive and seen we were waiting for drinks and served us. Lady who we assumed was also owner or manager offered to call a cab and apologised for wait but too little too late. There was a private party on downstairs which might have been the problem with service, if so put on in more staff.

Read a few reviews on Tripadvisors, the majority of those were all top marks or scored highly. I've also been wanting to try this place for number of years and we weren't disappointed at all, there restaurant was quiet but the service was brilliant, not over the top like some places but attentive, the food was delicious, fresh and full of flavour, also very well presented while still getting a good portion. The wine was great, my wife and I were unsure which wine to choose so the owner/waitress recommended a few and let us try them before we ordered, overall I was very impressed as was my wife who's Birthday we were celebrating and wish to return again in then war future

A restaurant we have been meaning to tick off the list for ages! It is a well run and friendly restaurant, some may say cramped but the tables in the back area are fine and its nice and quiet. The food was excellent. Calamari and duck were so well cooked. I had the rhubarb and strawberry cheesecake for dessert and have to say it is the best one I have ever had. Certainly won't leave it as long to visit again.

Lovely food but found 2 hairs, 1 in the meatballs and 1 on the teriyaki belly pork. The Manager apologised and discounted most of the food bill. Lovely setting and friendly staff. Been before and never had any complaints.

A quiet evening. As usual the service was friendly and food arrived within a reasonable timeframe. The vegetarian starter options were very good. I found my seafood platter rather dominated by squid, which was, as squid can be, rather rubbery but the other fish were just fine. The Chancel is a nice place, always worth an evening out going there.

I cannot fault the service or quality of the food and all at a reasonable price. I had a chicken ciabatta and it was really tasty and there was plenty, if not slightly too much but you don't have to eat it all!! The salad that came with the ciabatta was dressed in balsamic vinegar which makes a really nice change to oil as I don't like salad dressed in oil and always leave it. Would I go back again, most definitely.
