The Coconut Tree - Cardiff

I love the Coconut Tree in Cardiff. Service is always friendly and chilled out, the food is always excellent and the cocktails (both alcoholic and virgin) are always really good. It's good to go on a weeknight when they're a bit quiet so you can take your time a little.

we arrived and were seated on an exceptionally small table, I asked to be moved, and we were, but then two tables that came in after us got there orders taken before us, looked and sounded that one of the tables were regulars. when the food arrived it wasn't hot the cheese squares we had ordered were really cold and quiet hard, we didn't inform the waiting staff as we had waited so long to be served and the food had taken along time to arrive, we just felt a bit fed up by then !!!! the whole experience not at all what we had been lead to believe, overall very disappointing I'm sorry to say.

I wish I had a bigger stomach!! The best food I have had in a long time with excellent service. I will definitely be back again

Out table wasn't ready when we arrived, then very poor service - we weren't able to order drinks for half an hour, when we asked for someone to help. Food was lukewarm, over done. We had the shared meal and the waitress added chickpeas that were too spicy (we asked for medium spice). Very disappointing

Friendly staff. Good music. Wasn’t very busy so there wasn’t much atmosphere. We got sat in a strange side room too which didn’t add. Nice cocktails.

Rice in hard lumps, hopper's sold as a must...when it was cold and bland and hard to get attention to pay bill. And maybe I'm too old but bench seats are so uncomfortable. Rest food better... The mango curry and devil pineapple were great.

Fantastic food, ambience, price & staff! No chickpeas, which was devastating but the dahl curry & coconut sambol were, as always, to die for! Thanks so much, you guys. You never fail to impress (& I've taken LOTS of friends there to try my favourite food on the planet - Sri Lankan!)

I stumbled across this place when doing some research for where to get a vegan lunch in Cardiff. It was recommended on the Facebook page ‘Eat out vegan, Wales’. Coconut Tree has a tapas type format, so we chose 3 dishes each plus their pancake-type signature dish wrap. The food was a journey of discovery and tasted great. Prices were very reasonable for all those fresh ingredients and the service was great too. We can’t wait to visit again on our next trip to the capital.

I have recently visited the coconut tree before with a group of 6 and we had a fantastic meal and evening, I thought it would be a great place to bring my partner, i booked in advance and was looking forward to another great meal, unfortunately when the food was brought out it was cold, my partner let the team know and they did take our meal away and replaced the food, some of it was hot and some were still cold for the meals that they were, we did eat our meal and then paid and left upon leaving the manager did pull us to one side and refunded our food costs , a nice gesture but unfortunately we will not be returning. I do hope they sort out what happened as it could be a great place.

The interior is discusting. Menu is nothing and doesn’t have prices on there either. Ended up walking out

Place is nice, sat outside at one of those huts. I was REALLY disappointed with the food though. The only thing I enjoyed was the sweet pancake with coconut ice cream. The main food was bad in my opinion. Everything felt like a microwave at home quality. Very disappointed.

Great service menu was explained, very informative waiter (sorry didn’t catch his name). We ordered a variety of dishes (8 in total) all were excellent. My favourite was the Amba Maluwa (mango curry), Devil pork & pineapple excellent, expected a little more from the Jaffna Goat curry (Little more heat & flavour) but my wife loved it. For Drinks, we had classic Mojito I was not keen. I would definitely call again despite a couple negatives. Need to try more dishes 👍🏻. Returned in the evening for a few more cocktails, recommend the Beach Boy and Yaka. Good work guys, very interesting restaurant that’s definitely worth trying.

Food was UNREAL .. so delicious 😋 and the staff were extremely pleasant and welcoming.

The food was great but when a staff member showed up at our table with a drinks order that was wrong she got annoyed with US for their mistake. Making a comment along the lines of what was she supposed to do with the mistaken order. And the service to pay was slow. The guy serving us was lovely however.

First time going, amazing customer service so friendly & helpful, staff really know and are passionate about their food. Cocktails were lovely & really reasonable. We were recommended the black pork and it was incredible. Will be coming back for more very soon!

Always loved visiting here it’s one of my favourite places. We visited over bank holiday and were disappointed that the majority of the meat and fish dishes were unavailable as you’d think that more would be ordered to make sure demand could be met. Although, the staff are always lovely and willing to help you pick dishes if you’re unsure and will definitely keep coming back.

Excellent food. Exceptionally delicious! and nice service but food took a long time to arrive, so sadly won’t be able to use as a option for lunches when at work . Will have to save as a destination for evenings and weekends 😁
