The food was excellent and in nice surroundings. The staff were helpful and polite. It is worth the trip out and we will definitely be going back at some point.

We went for a family Sunday lunch. The food was excellent. In particular we enjoyed the black pudding starter, Roast beef main course and sticky toffee pudding. Drinks service was a little slow but it was busy.

Good meal, nice surroundings, pleasant staff and good value for money. Restaurant pretty quiet the evening probably given the weather has been so wet. We will visit again.

Nice wee pub, convenient to us travelling North on the A1 to meet with friends for a delightful Sunday lunch. Good home-cooked food at a reasonable cost, friendly staff and great service.

The service was diabolical. We weren't acknowledged on arrival waitied 30 minutes at the table before being served. The owner knocked off the cost of 2 tonics we were in the restaurant one hour 40 minutes to each one course. Spoilt the whole evening. This is the second time recently we have been and the service is far too slow. Won't be returning for a long time sorry to have to post the comments. No idea in customer care

Good food and good friendly service for a reasonable price. We would recommend to friends and will go back again, possibly for an evening meal to see if standards are just as good during the week.

Ambience relaxed, warm comfortable. Maggie looked after us well as always. Our steaks were excellent, and the spicy rhubarb crumble a dream dessert. Thank you to Alan, Gareth and Pam for maintaining their usual high standards.

Very good value for a quality Sunday lunch. Lovely rare beef (you have to say if you want it medium or well done). Pork equally as good with lovely crackling and nice chunky apple sauce. Welcome rushed but then efficient and friendly. Will return!

Thanks Maggie you always make us welcome and you have exactly the right balance - friendly, professional as well as being competent (and good fun!) I haven't said much about the food... that's not bad either!! Excellent overall. Thank you.

We ate from the early bird menu which offers two smaller portions for £10. The food was delicious and smaller portions were sufficient, although desserts were available at an extra charge. The restaurant wasn't full but we felt as though the staff were rushing us and they seemed a bit pushy at times.

Good service. Good food at a very reasonable price plus the staff catered for one of our party who is gluten free. The dining room was full which is always a good sign!

Went on Bank Holiday Monday for lunch.Had to let the waitress know we were ready to order & had to order our drinks at the bar,we weren't asked. We had our bread before starters arrived but 2 other couples didn't get bread, perhaps that is only offered if you are having a starter? Starters & Mains came out in reasonable time but the couple (with a baby) had to ask where their meal was as an hour had passed.Staff didn't know what came with the "Pie of the day" nor what the crumble was. Empty glasses were removed from table but we weren't offered any more drinks. Little things, that weren't upto the normal standard, maybe it was because Maggie wasn't working? Food good. We are regulars so we were quite disappointed with the service. Howard & Karen Marsden & Phil Rogers

Love the quality of food, which is often overlooked in mass produced Sunday lunch menus, in a splendid convivial yet comfortable surrounding... and it is walking distance :-)

Very disappointing after reading previous reviews. Lamb was described as "pink" but arrived grey and just like school dinners, vegetables were as hard as nails, only one and a half roast potatoes each and a thimble full of mashed potatoes, no extra gravy. No hand pulled local beers. The brownie pudding was tiny. No senior member of staff bothered to ask us if we had enjoyed the meal. Perhaps the main chef was not on duty, something was wrong today and they need to look at their standards.

Excellent service, good atmosphere, plenty of choice on the menu. Prices were good and portion sizes were fine. Fish pie was delicious, but a little too hot. Nearly took the roof of our mouths! Thanks for a lovely evening.

Our very first visit to the Fox & Hounds after hearing great reviews, arrived 15 minutes before our reservation time, shown straight to our table & had complimentary bread and oil arrived after ordering our drinks. nice touch. Food was excellent hot & the service was brilliant, & you wasn't rushed after you had finished your meal. Only thing that let it down was the poor selection of non alcoholic drinks.

The staff at the Fox and Hounds are genuinely friendly and accommodating. When we asked to move from the table near the door to one closer to the bar, they were very obliging. I like to try different things on the menu and I've enjoyed my meal each time I've gone. Definite recommendation!

Probably the best "Pub Sunday Lunch" I've had. Food very good, service good, although perhaps tables a little too close together? A minor niggle. Recommended.

Great evening with friends, we all had the Early Bird 'smaller portions' and were well satisfied with both the quantity and choice of dishes. Good food, great service.

Beautiful place, Landlord bitter was a great well kept pint, our party had steak pie which was very hearty and full of lean steak, aubergine lasagna which was tasty and filling, the sirloin steak and the burger were both fab, the chips crunchy, and the service attentive. Can't fault it, will be back

A very popular pub and another excellent meal. Advise to book as it gets busy. We go for the early bird menu which is great value and a bit less busy.... Especially if dining with children.

Very pleasant. Comfortable with a good atmosphere. Food good except my sirloin steak was, on this occasion, below par. Last steak I had there was superb. Would not hesitate to go back.

Nice welcome went for early bird but was not given the menu so ordered off the main menu.We had starter, main, and sweet.Looked like they were under staffed as only 1 in resturant although it was early tue night and was not all that busy counted 15 people eating. The chap serving us was very pleasant but looked a bit stressed lost count how many times i heard him say sorry about that. The food was very nice, portions could be bigger as we were on the main menu, early bird says they serve smaller portions but looked same size to me just not as much chioce.Bill was £63 so not cheap for 2.

Ate from the Early Bird menu which gives 2 corsets for £10. Very good value and although called smaller portions we all found the portion size to be just enough to the enable you to have a pudding. Something which is always popular with my family
