Love the food especially all the GF starters and puddings.
Service was a bit slow even though we were one of the first tables seated. My seafood grill was a bit dry. Waitresses were polite and pleasant.
Unfortunately despite a second try, the roast was again, not very hot, especially the vegetables. it was a disappointing lunch for Mothers day. The parsnips as served whole so were cooked only at one end. I don't know what the carrots are cooked in but they didn't look very appetising. We did mention it to the lovely waitress, but had no feedback. its a shame as we love the place and the main meals are very good , but I can see why they were not very busy last Sunday when it used to be full every week - the price has increased to £14.95 per head - which is quite a lot for a carvery so this may be the reason, and if cold, this adds to the lower rating. I will return to support this lovely pub with great staff and they accept dogs, but not on a Sunday for now.
Family meal to celebrate mother's day staff friendly food lovely and nice and hot
The food was very good but i have to say the waitress who served us was amazing. Always had a smile on her face, was helpful and happy to please. Would definitely recommend!
Very pleasant staff. Nicely presented and tasty meal. Cosy setting.
Very slow service but food was tasty once we received it.
Three carveries and one calves liver - all excellent. Will definitely visit again soon.
Great food, friendly atmosphere. Could be a little quicker with service.
Disorganised staff, slow to order, long wait for drinks, burnt potatoes at the carvery, lack of vegetables, very average quality carvery. Disappointed, would not recommend carvery.
A very pleasant experience with good food and friendly staff
Had a lovely time for my birthday meal. Thank you.
Two of our party had the carvary and complained the vegetables were under cooked. Service was a bit slow however the restaurant was busy. The rest of the party ate off the menu and really enjoyed our food.
Great new food and service since the change of ownership
Great to have fresh good tasting food , although the pudding were a little dry.
Great service and good. Good value and nice environment. Coming back soon.
First time we have been there we will go again all good happy lunch.
Overall a great experience, couldn't fault it. Good Food Great Staff
Excellent new carvery set up & hot plates so food didn't get cold while eating. Very friendly staff too.
Had the black rock steak meals. Steak was superb and very good value for money. Would have like steak brought out raw to cook from scratch ourselves (as we like it rare) but apparently they are not allowed to do that (H&S) which is a shame. Nice atmosphere in pub. Pub was quite busy servicing the grills. We will be regular visitors for the Blackrock Grill.
Absolutely amazing black rock grill.excellant service. Friendly staff good cider
A really great experience. Food was delicious and dining area not overcrowded. Will definitely return.
fantastic food, great service and tables were well presented for a Valentine's Day special
Lovely atmosphere with super staff and very delicious food. Worth every penny. Would definitely go again. Not too crowded but plenty of tables full to make a super evening.
seated towards the rear off the restaurant and could not hear the live music which i though a shame other than that the service was good
Fantastic food Great service and very friendly Lovely decor of traditional English pub Live music playing but not loud so you can talk without shouting Highly recommended
We had a lovely evening meal at The Old Thatch the food was great and the service was very good, definitely will return to The Old Thatch soon
four of us went to the old thatch {near the Ferndown Trading Estate} As we had been advised to try it, we were pleasantly surprised...…. It was proper food NOT the synthetic reconstituted meat you are often served up on carveries' GOOD FOOD GOOD SERVICE EXCELLENT VALUE Keep it up We'll be back
Had a really great meal there with the family tonight; excellent food, lively atmosphere and very good food. Glad we found it, thanks google maps!
Very friendly service from a family run restaurant which has an excellent menu. Standard of cuisine is excellent. The premises have not been messed with & retains its character.
Beautiful presented food very tasty and will recommend to everyone. Will certainly be going back. Staff really friendly. No rushing between each course so you could relax and enjoy at your own pace.
Food is good, staff good, but as in previous visits, the pub and restaurant are too cold to enjoy the evening - won’t be returning until either the owners sort the temperature in the building, or summer arrives. Great shame!
Great Sunday lunch carvery. Lovely atmosphere that caters for the whole family with children's food to senior citizen portions. Everyone made to feel welcome & good value for money.
A busy quiz night maybe held up service but overall very happy. Food was good and those waiting our table were lovely, friendly and had a giggle with us. Good atmosphere and we will return 👍 😊
Friendly staff, beautiful pub, the live music (Tim Somerfield) was great, and close to engage in some friendly chat between songs. It was concept dining night, and while I can see it could fun, I think I would have enjoyed the ordering from the normal menu more.
Slow service Food over rated and expensive Hunter chicken tough Menu limited Small portions small It was an over all disappointing experience which was very expensive
Food poor, service poor, atmosphere poor glassware and cutlery not clean lip stick marks around top of glass, food portions are tiny Prawn cocktail very few prawns tasteless and no salad other than rocket leaves
I did find the old thatch a little cold. My food was ok I ordered the hunters chicken with bbq sauce. It would have been nice to have had a small pot of sauce as the ‘drizzle ‘ over the chicken could have been more. Service however was fine
We love the food& service here so thought we’d try the Sunday Carvery was very disappointed very limited stater soup was leak & potato but clearly had an ingredient added think blue cheese we were not informed of this. The Carvery itself was disappointing mainly the roast potatoes were cooked in garlic butter making them soggy & garlic not everybodies cup of tea again this should be communicated. Staff friendliness & service as excellent as ever
Above average Sunday lunch. Small carvery with a choice of 3 meats. Excellent roast potatoes and very good Yorkshire pudding. Pleasant and efficient staff. Not all the tables are well positioned with a couple near a constantly opening outside door.
