This is the third time I have been to 1884 and the service is normally incredible and last night it was awful. We went for the set menu, three courses with a glass of fizz for £25.00 each. I have had this everytime and its brilliant. Last night we were shown to our table and we placed our order. I was driving but my partner ordered the matching wine. Our bread arrived, still no drinks. Then our soup came for starters. A waitress came over with two glasses of wine, I advised that we had only ordered one and mentioned that we had still not had our fizz. She was apologetic and brought it over for us. Food was perfect as normal, my partner felt the main was very salty but it was nice. The guy who served us then went on to barge in to my chair and didnt offer a murmer of apology. When we got the bill we were reluctant to leave a tip due to the poor service, we are normally really good tippers. As we were leaving the man who served us was counting our money into the till and looked mad, when we walked out we didnt even get a thank you or anyhting. Immensly dissapointing service to what we are used to at 1884!
We had the market menu plus matching wines which were perfect I chose hake for my main course and this was delicious and beautifully cooked.
Really enjoyed the food, the surroundings and the service. I can't wait for our next visit. Would recommend the beef, it was really beautifully cooked and presented.
The food was of excellent quality and cooked to perfection, the service was on a par with the food and the selection and quality of beverages was also extremely good ,all in all a really good experience ,will definitely return.
The staff were very accommodating when one of our party was delayed by train delays. They took the stress of the situation away by being very accommodating and helpful. Food and service was also excellent.
Good food, service, surroundings and its in Hull, the best travel destination from London in the North. Get on the Hull Trains service and visit the 2017 City of Culture
Fantastic food, great cheese trolley, very attentive service, nicely decorated venue at a nice location. All in all, 1884 is magnificent to celebrate special occasion. We will definitely be back!
Delicious, fresh tasting food, delightful, attentive service, comfortable atmosphere. We found the short Lunchtime Menu provided a good range of dishes and was excellent value for money.
This was our second visit to the restaurant and was a little disappointed with this visit. I am coeliac and the starter for me was lacking taste, very bland. Disappointed with lack of choice for dessert to. Our overall experience this time was not as good.
We Love it there food is lovely atmosphere is nice staff friendly great selection of wine and cheeses to choose from stinking bishop is favourite
Excellent food, lovely atmosphere and the staff were brilliant. We both had the fillet steak which was lovely, really tender and cooked perfectly. We will definitely be returning
The vegetarian food was good but my husband's fish and meat dishes were average. The service was good, very pleasant staff who were attentive without being in your face.
Fantastic good and amazing service - would highly recommend the fillet steak and bone marrow. The atmosphere was also very relaxed but busy at the same time!
Lovely relaxed atmosphere, with excellent service and delicious food. The dining area was spacious. We had a three course meal with wine and thought it was excellent value. Highly recommended.
Excellent staff, atmosphere and food! One of the best steaks I have ever had and a great selection of wines and gins . . .
As always, a lovely experience beside Hull Marina. The sun was shining and the food was excellent. My Vegan diet was carefully catered for in beautiful fashion with two choices of starter and two mains. I opted for beetroot to start and seasonal vegetables and potato rosti for my main along with some chunky chips. Awesome stuff.
An excellent foodie experience. Quality food and staff. From start to finish, this establishment excels. With a total lack of competition, it would have been easy to let standards slip but they never do. Professionalism is the maxim here.
We had a perfect lunch at 1884. Delicious food and the service was impeccable. Happy for us to try one pudding between three - always a good sign of a restaurant without pretensions!
A fabulous meal with very attentive service. The Happy Birthday treats were a nice touch too. Imaginative and well-presented food with a reasonable choice of dishes.
Very friendly welcome and service throughout. Food excellent. Only one thing that let it down was the highchair provided did not have all straps, the replacement highchair was also missing a strap fastening. This did not detract from our good experience and we would definitely return.
I had rib eye steak, cooked medium, it was perfectly cooked. The peppercorn sauce was perfectly seasoned. I would recommend this restaurant to others. Thanks.
Best value for money Sunday lunch I have ever eaten. Pleasant staff & I love the open kitchen so you can see where it all happens.
Food much better than on previous visits. Unfortunately not as keen on the restaurant seating layout as on previous visits. However this may be due to the roadworks outside, which isn't their fault.
Excellent service, fantastic food & an overall pleasant experience, couldn't recommend it enough. Staff were friendly & very welcoming. Will definitely be going again soon.
A very pleasant experience with beautifully presented and tasty food. Attentive service but a little slow, particularly as there were few other diners, but it did not spoil the occasion.
Sunday lunch. Good choice of food. Took a while before our order was taken and about 35 minutes before our starter arrived. It was worth the wait. Main course (beef) was well very good also. Good choice of real ales and our bill for 2 course meal for 2 with beers was very good value for money. Classy place, relaxed atmosphere. Well recommended.
Absolutely brilliant! Could not fault them one bit! From the warm welcome into the place, to remembering my wife's dietary requirements- they came to us after we were sat down and worked out alternatives/amendments to the menu for her and even providing her with a different canope with no onions, chives or garlic involved as she is breastfeeding and our baby suffers from them. They were wonderfully understanding and worked around us. The food was outstanding- the starter was amazing, sirloin was the best I've ever had and on top of that, they kept a fine pint of Black Sheep in draft. If I hear anyone looking for somewhere special to eat, I'll not just recommend DSK, I'll give them a piggyback there!!! Thank you DSK for an outstanding evening!!
This was our first visit, and we were impressed with décor and atmosphere . Yes it was pricey but we knew that before we booked. The food was excellent and the staff very helpful in explaining what some of the dishes were. We will go again.
As always the food was really tasty and we received excellent service. I thought the 3 course lunch meal for £21 was rather pricey for the small portions.
Our second visit, this time bringing friends, did not disappoint. Wish we were hungrier - we had to skip starters (but managed excellent sausage rolls), and only one of us had a dessert (delicious and sizeable lemon meringue pie)... But main courses were great - tender roast beef, lovely sea trout and pork belly with a rhubarb compote that blew one diner away. Service was fine, though we were in a bit of a rush for a train and had to prod once or twice. Will definitely return.
Amazing food, service and the best cheese selection EVER. Really looked after us and we thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance there. Best p;ace for a Sunday roast in East Yorkshire!
Very enjoyable evening. Friendly staff great food. Highly recommended. Well worth the cost for that special occasion. We will be going back fire sure. 5 stars
Market menu is good value , excellent food and friendly, knowledgeable service.
First visit to 1884, was very impressed, very warm welcome, amazing food and drink, great atmosphere and the service was very good,we will definitely be returning.
Informative and friendly service , innovative menu, food is high quality. Arguably the best restaurant in Hull city centre.
The restaurant was pleasent but service was slow. The food was good once we received it however, I felt it was overpriced for the quality and what we received .
Superb food flavours, presentation & quality. Excellent service staff. Great match of wine to food on market menu. Will go again very soon to 1884.
I took my mum here for dinner, as she hadn't been anywhere in Hull before. We had a really lovely dinner. The staff were really attentive and the food was gorgeous. We had a wonderful time.
Fantastic Restaurant, Excellent Food. Great Service. We have been to this restaurant a few times now and it is always first class. Best Retsurant in Hull
The overal surroundings and experience you get at 1884 is one of the best I've ever experienced. And this is time after time total class.
Absolutely stunning restaurant. The best one in Hull. The service was first class not to mention the delicious food and wine. The choice of cheeses afterwards were amazing too.
This is our third visit and service was impeccable, food was stunning Great ambience Had a fabulous evening, felt totally spoilt Can't wait to visit again
Well designed, trendy with traditional decor. Staff attentive and helpful, ambience very good (went at 7pm midweek). The food, while very good, is hard to reconcile with the pricing. Expect to pay around £50 per head for 3 courses without wine.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC FOOD FRIENDLY STAFF You need to experience this place I recommend the beef for Sunday lunch it was beautiful cooked to perfection as was the lamb The evening menu is also fantastic a must must try
Outstanding food, excellent menu choice. Good atmosphere, well stocked bar. If gin is your thing, this is the place to be. Well worth visiting even while the streets are dug up!
1884 was always a place we have wanted to visit but for one reason or another we kept putting it off. Our table was ordered for 6 so we arrived 10 minutes early and found the place still shut and closed. We worried we had got the wrong place but no, literally two minutes to 6 the lights came on and the barriers opened to expose 1884. We was placed at a booth which was nice, we gave our orders and was brought and complimentary appetiser. For starters I had the Mozzarella and my husband had the pigeon. Mains where the Hake with Lemon Mash for myself and my husband had Chicken with minted peas. Dessert we opted for the Lemon & black pepper Meringue and my husband had the White chocolate dessert. Over all we both agreed our experience was wonderful. Staff was attentive but not too in your face. After our meal staff left me and my husband to just chat while we had our after dinner coffee's. We didn't feel like we was being rushed out to make way for another cover. It's not very often my husband suggests we go somewhere twice but he already mentioned coming back.
Food and service was fantastic - This is getting to be our firm favourite! Steak was cooked medium rare just right and what's not to like about the batter on the onion rings. Washed down with a good house red, it will not be long before we are back again.
Great food, great wine and wonderful service. The setting on the marina was beautiful with the sun setting in the background. Throughly recommend 1884 for dinner in Hull.
Beautiful setting and amazing value for money on the lunch set menu. Great food and wine, would definatley recommend a visit. One of hulls gems!
Can't fault the food or service but lunchtimes lack atmosphere sorry 1884 as in the evening your vibrant May be consider opening a small section when your not busy.
