Informative and friendly service , innovative menu, food is high quality. Arguably the best restaurant in Hull city centre.
Good food, waitress service attentive. When paying the Bill the waitress was unsure of how to add the gratitude payment onto my electronic bill. The waitress asked a senior member of staff for assistance, however his attitude towards her waitress was unprofessional and he made her feel inadequate! This was witnessed by myself and I made a comment to the waitress to make her feel more comfortable after the other member of staff ( male) returned to his duties. Comments: Please ensure the OVERALL experience is important even as the customer is leaving! Courtesy to colleagues should not be limited to customers!
The restaurant was pleasent but service was slow. The food was good once we received it however, I felt it was overpriced for the quality and what we received .
Fab food, fab staff will be back just love going here once again a lovely experience took grandaughter for 17 th birthday treat thank you 1884 x
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC FOOD FRIENDLY STAFF You need to experience this place I recommend the beef for Sunday lunch it was beautiful cooked to perfection as was the lamb The evening menu is also fantastic a must must try
Excellent level of food and service, menu and wine knowledge of the waiter & waitress was exceptional, everything was great and will recommend to others as a 100% must.
Lovely atmosphere, plenty of space around tables, service to a very high standard. Food was presented to a very high standard, and tasted amazing. Fantastic restaurant!
An excellent Sunday lunch was had by our party of three. The presentation of the food was first class and tasted as good as it looked. The service was particularly good, very attentive but quietly discrete. A pleasure to eat there.
After reading the good reviews in the Yorkshire Post we booked a table online. We arrived a little early but that was no problem and we were seated straight away. The food and service were excellant. A very enjoyable experience, it's a pity we live over an hour and a half away.
I travelled from York having heard about the restaurant, it was well worth the journey and we were not disappointed. A very enjoyable evening, food was excellent and the ambiance and service also very good.
The food was amazing, really tasty and very attractive. The service was super too with no request being too much! They altered the menu to suit my need for a lactose free meal and even gave us complementary puddings on learning that it was our anniversary! Brilliant!
Very pleasasnt atmosphere. All staff were very attentative, well mannered. Food was of an outstanding quality and presented to an exceptional standard. Atmosphere was also very pleasant.
A thoroughly delightful dining experience. Friendly and attentive staff serving the finest Roast !!!!! We look forward to our next visit for a repeat performance.
food was not as nice as expected. staff was in experience and i was ignored for a few times i needed them. they didn't even bother showing us a drinks menu. menu was simply a piece of paper without any images, not to mention a very confusing style of presentation. overall just bad. did not expected this from a Michelin stared restaurant. not worth the money at all.
Disappointing after all the hype about being the best restaurant in Hull. Doubt I would recommend it to anyone in the future. Maybe it was a bad night.
Excellent service and not intrusive, excellent menu - my pigeon starter was lovely and we'll cooked. Joy to be able yo eat Hake again and the combination of ingredients worked very well. Enjoyable experience. Will be back.
1884 had a nice atmosphere, the food was good, but we found the menu slightly limited. The service was professional, and overall we enjoyed the experience.
Lovely venue, good menu choices, food beautiful cooked and presented. We were there to celebrate a family engagement and it was a great choice. ..

Excellent food, good atmosphere, great service. Highly recommended. Very good choice of wines and gin! Ample parking, slightly confusing to locate. We will return and try other dishes as well as the tapas.
Service good, quality of food ok, not the "wow" factor I was hoping for, for the price I paid. Nice surrounding but not the ambiance I was expecting
Beautifully decorated venue, food was wonderful - strange combination of ingredients that worked really well! A lovely birthday touch for my Dad's 50th, thank you
Great food as always, beautifully presented, fresh and tasty. Chef kind enough to cater for my vegan tendencies. Pea and mint soup followed by roasted sweet potato and salad of various vegetables.
We had a lovely lunch as always at 1884 with delicious food, great choice of drinks (check out the gin and tonic menu!) and calm relaxed atmosphere.
Delightful. Pleasant, efficient service. Delicious, well presented food - imaginative, tempting not shocking. Good wines. Very attractive venue for special but relaxed experience. Altogether excellent.
We really liked the location and the venue. Greeted warmly, directed to a booth. A couple of menus to choose from. Great food and atmosphere. A bit pricey though!!
It was the second time I've have visited 1884 in a week and again the Food and the service was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Fantastic food and drink almost Michelin star quality Very good value for money. Always looked after very well by the staff Will be back very soon
Brilliant Service from the moment you enter to when you leave. Food well priced , surroundings very nice . Food was very very tasty. Make sure you try it.
V tasty food excellent service. Would highly recommend to go at lunch and use the set menu as we did. Very good value for money.
THE FOOD WAS FINE BUT FAR TO EXPENSIVE AS WAS THE WINE, THE RESTAURANT , AND WAS FAR TO NOISY FOR OUR TASTE. STAFF VERY POLITE AND EFFIECIENT
As always food and service were 1st class and the staff went out of their way to accommodate our request for a booth table. Look forward to our next visit.
First class from entering the resteraunt to leaving it.The food was first class as was the service. We have been here several times now and it is always great value.
Great food and great service. We enjoyed it very much. We will recommend it to our friends and we will certainly return to 1884 in the future.
Very good fine dining experience, food was well presented and interesting flavour conbinations, some staff quite formal but friendly lovely building right near the docks.
Nice surroundings and very attentive service. The food was good but not outstanding. I generally felt that the menu was a little limited and the food was overpriced but I would return again.
Our food was as lovely as ever but a little cold. However, this could have been due to where we were seated. Unfortunately, since we last visited the restaurant, the layout has changed so the waiting area is right in front of the doors, where it's extremely windy and cold each time the door opens. Sadly, our table was also in this area. We were with our elderly parents who were so cold throughout the entire meal. It hasn't put us off going again but we would certainly contact the restaurant in future, to make sure we wasn't sat in this area again.
The ambiance is both welcoming, bustling but also intimate. The staff make you feel they are just there for you and every visit is special. Our Sunday lunch was a lovely affair, we had just taken my son and his fiance to The Deep and were relaxed and happy. The meal was absolutely wonderful - varied, Yorkshire, interesting and beautifully cooked and served. We all had different meals and they were all great. For a change I had cheese for dessert - what a selection, it was hard to choose but delicious when I did. I have eaten at 1884 Dock Street Kitchen quite a few times and have never been disappointed. My favourite was the chocolate and violet mousse I had last time. Well worth a visit, one of the best restaurants and I had visited quite a few!
The food was amazing! The staff were so friendly and attentive, the wine was great. Only slight minor was waiting a little while at the door to be seated but once seated that didn't matter.
Good service, excellent food. We had Sunday lunch and there was a good choice of starters, mains and puds at reasonable cost. Love the roast beef and Yorkshire puds!
Excellent service, cheerful staff and very delicious food. The manager was pleasant, helped us to select the wine and gave us advise on different dishes. The complimentary starters very tasty. We were also offered complementary prosocco which was a pleasant surprise.
I booked a table for a member of my staff as he was celebrating 40 years at our comopany. He and his wife were extremely impressed and thought this was a really special treat and plan to visit again in the near future.
From start to finish, a fantastic expierance. Gorgeous food and staff being the most helpful they could possible be. The restaurant actually manages to pull off a cultured side of Hull. I would highly recommend 1884 to anyone.
A pleasant cadre with attentive but not obtrusive service. The cuisine was , on the whole very good. I questioned the quality of the oysters, having already asked if they were good., They were milky and just not fresh, but had no response from my remark after they had been served , so deduct a "point " for that lack of care. Overall a good experience but highly over-priced which docks another point. They cannot justify that level even if it is next to the marina. More used to dining in France, this was not a good comparison. Many locals will find the portion control rather mean. I will probably not be returning as a result. Chris
Fantastic lunch as usual, always cater for me as I need gluten free meals. Never leave here hungry. Can't wait for our next meal here
Excellent service and the food was spot on as usual. I never get fed up of using 1884 restaurant. My clients are always surprised at the quality
Amazing food as always! Great service! Brilliant with my dietary requirements. Such a lovely dining experience but i was a little disappointed they didn't do anything for my birthday, as we had told them in advance and most places are nice with this stuff or at least tell me happy birthday! So they could improve on being more personal :)
Great service. Excellent quality and whilst pricey good value for money. Having travelled from Pontefract and not knowing Hull too well would have liked the website to guide guests on parking. Will definitely return as it is one of the few restaurants I have visited recently where the ingredients deliver their individual flavours - the excellent smoked haddock chowder being a case in point. Thank you for a lovely lunch.
It's was nice and had a good evening, we have been a few times before but didn't think it was as good.. When your spending that sort of money for a meal out it has to be fantastic..
Everything from the surroundings to the staff was first class. In for Sunday Lunch, service was prompt and friendly, and we were not rushed at all.
Wonderful, attentive staff, good service, lovely friendly atmosphere and great food. Only critisism being that there was no gin menu like there has been on previous occasions. So when asked what kind of gin I would like with my tonic and wanting something different from my usual Bombay Sapphire, and not wanting to list of gins reeled off to me by the waitress my only response was you choose. Her choice or the barman's choice was to be fair spot on and I had a 2nd. However, a menu to peruse would have been great...although it may have ended up in me having several more.
