1st time we've eaten there. Exquisite food, lovely restaurant. The birthday girl I took with me said it was probably the best meal out she's ever had - chateaubriand followed by the cheeseboard. Enough said

Our first visit and we were impressed by the friendly efficient service, delightful ambiance and of course delicious food. Certainly will visit again soon and bring the family. A special place for celebration but also for a midweek lunch

Since this restaurant opened, it became our go to place. Not once have we been disappointed with either food, staff or surroundings. The freshest of ingredients are used to create the finest of dishes which are all supported by a great wine list. Last nights visit was no different, it was busy but that affected nothing due to the professional, courteous staff. The only superlative to use for this establishment is, EXCELLENCE.

We've been to the restaurant several times before and the consistency of service and food is excellent. The menu is wide with lots of different price points. The dining rooms are extremely nice with tables nicely spread out. I couldn't speak more highly - one of my favourite restaurants. It's only a pity I don't live nearer because I would be there weekly.

A great spot for a high quality lunch. Not cheap (£30+ for set menu + drinks) but quality makes it worthwhile. Service was friendly and not overbearing: food was delicious.

Good food, excellent staff and a comfortable dining room - what's not to like! My wife and I have used 1884 Dock Street a couple of times - a great discovery whilst visiting Hull during city of culture year - and each time we have had an excellent meal. I strongly recommend this restaurant

I honestly felt I wasn't welcomed and the price is too high for the quantity and quality they offer. Very disappointed with overall night I spent there. The dessert is way too small for an 8 pounds price tag.

Food was good but as foodies we were disappointed. choice on lunch was limited. Staff were polite but the whole restaurant seemed flat with no atmosphere.

Excellent. I liked the place, and the food and the service. A bit blokey perhaps. But that might just have been the night I was there!

One of the best restaurants in East Yorkshire. Good staff, plenty of room in the restaurant area with a nice bar where you can sit and peruse the menu whilst having a drink before taking your seats. Some of the best steaks I have ever had and other dishes besides. Ample portions and sides, we will be back!

Great location by the water, good service throughout by a pleasant team and excellent, if not plentiful, food - not sure London pricing is entirely justified though.

Good service with the right amount of time between courses. The food was well presented and delicious. We had the set menu which included a glass of prosecco. It was lunch time and the content was just right. The roast butternut squash and also the chocolate bread and butter pudding were 'moreish'.

We dined on a Monday evening which can be a bit flat but happily there we many other tables booked. We were tight for time and so only managed a main course. The food was super and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Difficulty parking so arrived late. Staff very friendly and helpful. Well presented excellent lunch. Surprisingly was able to purchase a white wine from East Yorkshire, which was most enjoyable. All round superb experience to celebrate my 65th Birthday.

For us a return to the high standards of cuisine that the restaurant achieved in its earliest days, beautiful food, super presentation, lovely staff. Only negative was that the service was a tad slow, but I'm nit picking, we had a great evening, thank you.

One of the best Sunday lunches we have had in a long time. The beef was cooked to perfection, the vegetables just on the firm side and the service was super. We arrived about 12.40 for 1.00pm lunch had a drink in the bar and left about 3.00pm and were never rushed. Altogether a first rate experience.

Myself and my friends had a lovely evening from start to finish. The food was just so good from the starter which I had the scotch egg was so tasty and for my main I had the duck which was cooked to perfection and the dessert I had the apple pie it just so good. Having finished our meal we went into the bar area to listen to the piano player it was such an enjoyable evening for myself and my three friends. looking forward to going again soon.

6 of us booked to celebrate my 50th birthday. This is the 4th time we have eaten there this year. None of are from Hull and travel to eat, so that demonstrates we enjoy the food, service and ambience. Whilst the food was as good as ever, sadly the customer service was not good! Normally the staff are excellent. But the red haired waitress who served us on Friday 17th November looked like she was having a very bad day at the office and didn't want to be there. She was extremely abrupt and abrasive in her manner snapping at me when I was unsure about the steak choices. I noticed her manner was no better with other guests. This is why I marked down as a four, for the very poor waitress service. Four of us lunch quite regularly somewhere every 5 or 6 weeks, and would return although we would probably check before hand if this individual would be serving us.

All very nice. Will certainly wish to use this venue again. Overall the price was reasonable: the bill for 5 including drinks was an acceptable £55 per head. Portion sizes were ‘fashionable’ and so perhaps, for some, a little light. However the food was well cooked and fashionably presented. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive though later, as the restaurant was busy - impressive for a midweek night - she did appear quite stretched.

From start to end the staff, food, and ambience, 1884 was perfection. Lovely wine list, excellent variety of food choices, and wonderfully gracious staff made the night special. One complaint: the kitchen ran out of oysters!!

Great restaurant! Great service too. The chips let down the steak. In the past they have been amazing ‘chunky chips’, but this time they were skinny fries...

I had the set menu, tasty food but way too small portions except the pud which was substantial, sadly not warmed through properly so some bits were stone cold. A la carte starter tasty but again too small, main course good but very expensive. All in all a little disappointed but we will probably return to give it another try.

Food was luke warm but very tasty. Service was excellent and couldn’t fault it. Atmosphere was nice and relaxed barring our next table. They were very loud and not aware they were spoiling other people’s night. No reflection on the restaurant though.
