It was our wedding anniversary and we had a lovely time, the food was excellent service great. The only slight down side was the people on the table along side were loud. Overall wonderful time and we are planning our next visit.

A great atmosphere with just the right volume of background music. The food was exceptionally good and portions of both meat and vegetables were very generous. Absolutely no room for the luscious looking desserts on display 🙁 I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

Excellent service, choice of menu, and tasty traditional English luncheon as usual from this my favourite local restaurant, which I have recommended to many friends who have also been pleased there.

Bates is brilliant. Good old fashioned home made food. Staff are superb friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I have been many times and have never managed to eat everything. Portions are generous. Lunch time menu excellent value. Go go but you will need to book

Another great meal at Bates restaurant. The meal was excellent and the menu of the day is fabulous value. I had the sea bass fillets which were cooked perfectly. Great food, great value and friendly service, what more can you ask for?

Excellent little family restaurant. Probably the best fillet steak I have ever eaten. Three of us had steak, each wanting it cooked differently, all three were perfectly cooked to our requests. They even had gluten free chocolate fudge cake for dessert, as well a wide selection of other gorgeous desserts. Good selection of vegetables, also nicely cooked. We will be returning hopefully.

Excellent from start to finish : booking, service, food and drink, ambience. Our favourite place! We have been customers since Bates first opened and have never been disappointed. We've taken various people as guests, and they are in full agreement with us.

An excellent meal with good choices. Very pleasant service. Restaurant full on a Tuesday evening. Apparently only one person in the kitchen and we were amazed how he could produce such good food.

We had a really good meal prepared and served to the highest standard. The staff are always most welcoming and it is a please to dine at Bates.

I have always said one day I would visit this restaurant and as I wanted to say Thank You to special friends, this was where I wanted to take them. Both the setting/food and service was excellent. We will visit again in the future.

We have had many meals in this restaurant over many years and every one has been excellent. The food is traditional British cuizine of the highest standard and the portions are quite large. Cheryl makes you very welcome and the service is very efficient. The restaurant is intimate without being crowded and all tables have clean white tablecloths which generally seems a rarity these days. We would recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

Very good British style food (lamb shoulder delicious), first class service. It as a loyal clientele, this shows that over the years standards have remained high.

We visit this restaurant regularly and everything is always perfect. Only complaint is that the food portions are too big !!!! Well done Bates once again

We eat at this restaurant on a number of occasions each year, as it is local to us. As ever the food was excellent coupled a with friendly service. A speciality of this restaurant I the home made sweets and puddings which are scruptious

The restaurant has a very warm and homely feeling. The staff great you like old friends, the table settings crisp and clean. But the star of the evening is always the food, just superb!!!!

It`s been several years since I`ve been to Bates Restaurant and it`s still every bit as good as it was then. Great food, service and value.

Excellent food and service in spotless and attractive surroundings. We've never been disappointed, even after visiting many times. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff.

Been to this restaurant many times and food is excellent, on our visit last night with friends who hadn't been before, I had the lamb along with my husband. His was perfect and he ate it all, mine was terrible and ALL fat, I made no fuss due to being with people who hadn't been before and just left it. When my plate was taken away we were asked if everything was ok I then said about my meal not being nice and was asked if I had sent it back I said no due to being with others and my plate was taken away along with most of meal meal on it so they could see how it was. What I don't like is there was no apologies what so ever they could have just acknowledged my complaint. Other than that lovely restaurant.

Excellent experience all round. Will definitely be visiting again and I know my guests will go again when their family come to visit. Server couldn't have been more attentive to the dietary needs of my pregnant nice. Very pleasant, relaxed atmosphere.
