Bird in Hand, Lovedean

Ordered a pint of shandy which was flat and cloudy but was replaced after a delay. The food was delicious. My rare steak was just as it should be. Asked for a Virgin Mary with my meal which was poor, lacking in taste and more ice cubes than liquid. When I got the bill, I queried the £6 for the Virgin Mary staying it wasn’t one. Eventually the manager came to explain that it was, knocked a quid off the bill but that was it. There’s a staff training issue here. The very young staff are charming but cannot deal with queries such as the shandy and go off for advice which is slow in coming. Management need to be more proactive after all at 6pm it wasn’t busy. Shame the meal ended on a disappointing note. I did so want to support the local pub midweek.

Great food and great service, in a lovely country setting

Not impressed at all. Had table booked for 7.30. Didn’t get a drink or anyone to ask us for a drinks order till 8.00. Then told food was running late by half an hour. We got our meals at 8.50. I had filet steak which was burnt and tasteless my wife has salmon fishcakes which were very very salty. Not impressed at all. Giving no stars

Good food. Could have been a bit hotter but didn't detract from an enjoyable meal.

4 meals from very restricted menu 3 were reasonably priced however the pork dish was very poor and very expensive... even a small eater would have been left hungry luckily I ordered a portion of chip which was 10 chips for £4 again expensive for portion. Love the atmosphere, service excellent but portion needs to be looked at as prices have been inflated.since last visit.

Great staff, really felt safe to visit in the coronavirus world we live in. Food was as delicious as usual and the ambience was great. Fabulous evening!

One of our first post lockdown outings to take sister out for a birthday lunch. We wanted to return to where we held our fathers 90th birthday 3 years ago and who sadly died in February. Even though we all live some distance away it was just right. The staff and organisation for social distancing and hand gel etc were spot on and the team gave us all a great experience. Friendly welcome, cheerful throughout and so keen to help. The food was amazing.... As always. My sister said her ploughman's was the best she had ever had. And I have to say that the sharing bread with oil and simply incredible olives in a chutney were unique and to die for. All in all a wonderful experience. Thank you to all for a superb experience. Highly recommended

Went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Pretty quiet but it was a Monday. COVID-19 procedures worked well.

Warm and friendly staff. The covid procedures in place put us at ease and did not impact our meal. Really enjoyed

The food was great as always, just the service was very slow & forgetful which was disappointing, even though reduced tables now.

The staff were were very professional and made us feel safe in the fact that good hygiene and social distancing was put in place. The food and service was also very good, we will return.

Overall good food, but new potatoes were over buttered, in fact seem like they have been broiled. Service slow at first, but was dealt with well and fine afterwards.

We had a lovely evening in a very calm, safe and relaxed atmosphere. The food was amazing! We don’t know the mans name that served us (he brought the birthday cake out with the joke candles) so a big thank you for making the eve perfect.

Well managed social distancing, food was great as always - but might be better for the staff to have full face visors rather than face masks as sometimes was difficult to hear them. Well done Bird in Hand you did a great job!

The food was amazing with lots of flavour and well presented. Its never cheap to eat there but you get what you pay for it. Compliments to the chef. The staff were great too dealing with all the new guidelines which means more work for them all. Our first ladies night out after lockdown was lovely and felt very safe. Thank you

The guy who greeted us was so lovely and informative! He made us feel so comfortable and was so polite! The restaurant is set out really well and we felt really comfortable! There is hand gel at the table and you are asked to use it frequently which we did..! Our waitress Marley was lovely too and food was fab as always

As usual great food and service. Only downside was the ambience - due to restrictions- would have been nice to have more people with the chatter and laughing etc.

Pub brilliant. Staff excellent. Food was okay. Has the smashed avacado on toast and the avacado didn’t have much taste to it and the pached eggs on top, you could taste the vinegar they had been poached in. On the full English, the bacon was very dry and on the hard side. Apart from that, all was fantastic!

Absolutely excellent service from the manager Matt and we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast. The chef made his own version of black pudding and it was really excellent. Would highly recommend visiting this pub/restaurant.
