A real shame, this. We've been there a number of times in the past and have been impressed with the food, but the service in particular has taken a nosedive. We arrived at 7pm with a reservation. 5 wait staff for about 12 tables would lead you to think they shouldn't be struggling. Menus arrived about 10 minutes later. A waiter came by, asked if we were ready to order, then disappeared. About 5 minutes later another waiter arrived and took our order. Starters (soup and a mushroom dish) took 30 minutes to arrive. Mains arrived 45 minutes later, after having to chase. Steak that was ordered medium rare arrived rare. They forgot one side dish. After mains plates had been cleared we waited about 10 more minutes, but no offer of dessert/coffee/etc. was forthcoming. We eventually just forced the issue by getting up to leave and paying the bill at the front. We asked to have the service charge removed from the bill, which they did after some grumbling and words between the woman working the front of house and the headwaiter. At these prices you really should be able to expect more.
Set in beautiful location the Brasserie Vacherie has a warm exuberant ambiance enhanced by its easily accessible table seating arrangements; the food is of excellent quality complemented by excellent attentive service
It was our first visit to Brasserie Vacherin and we had a very pleasant evening. The food was excellent and the service attentive and not too intrusive. As we left we all said that we would have no hesitation in coming back again.
It was Mothers day evening , restaurant was empty but service was slow. We were only given the fixed price menu , but shortly afterwards another table came in and they were given he usual menu , my meat was good but potatoes were inedible full of black spots. Really dissapointed as have had lovely food in here before. Also my daughter was treating me so didnt like to make a fuss
after a disappointing experience last time, we decided to return to Vacherin. but once again the service was poor. A guest should be at least brought water or offered a drink. After having to call someone over to order a drink, we had an interminable wait to receive them (a beer and a glass of wine). Our starters arrived 70 minutes after walking through the door. Food was fine, but they brought the WRONG bottle of wine. not good.
Food excellent BUT table was not ready. Tried to fit us in smaller space. Had to go back to bar while they sorted it. Communication bad. Very poor wine stock. Went through 3 choices before found one that available!
The food is excellent and great value. I have been to this restaurant several times and it always let down by its sloppy service. Something always gets forgotten, whether it is drinks taking a long time to arrive, no bread being brought, or sides never arriving. It is frustrating as it could be a great restaurant otherwise.
Good, authentic brasserie - fine food whether a la carte or prix fixe. Pleasant ambiance, and a relaxing bar area. Easy parking nearby, and rail too.
Very good meal but the service, although friendly, was extremely slow. I've noticed this before and it does detract from the quality of the experience.
Dinner on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant looks great inside the food was great too. Good atmosphere and good service. Will certainly visit again in the near future.
Lovely meal, lovely atmosphere but staff were a bit hit and miss - slow to get our drinks and take our order but polite and accomodating.
The atmosphere was very pleasant and the staff were very attentive. The food was nice, however my main meal was cold. I had the fix menu and feel that it was a fair price, but I would not have been so happy to pay double that price (on the normal menu) as the portion sizes were quite small
The restaurant venue and food were nice. Service was not great. A couple of times my order was forgotten. Bill had wrong amount (over charge) so needed querying. One waitress was very good which kept this above 2 marks.
Food amazing, service poor. Had to ask for drinks twice, ask to order starter twice and food took a long time to arrive. Waitresses polite, however some had very poor English so couldn't understand our orders , which seemed strange.
The food was lovely, though sitting by the front window I had to keep my jacket on as it was quite cold. We were told rudely by the waitress that she had already told us to sit at a table, when she clearly had not, perhaps some people skills? Unfortunately the waitress could not see the menu without the glasses as she could not understand my English accent. We felt very left out of the buzzing restaurant with empty tables between us and them.
Been here a few times and food and staff always nice. But if going there for breakfast, its usually cold in the restaurant. But warms up later in the day.
Food was good but service not! In fairness our waiter was new, young and inexperienced and would have benefited from more guidance from his colleagues/mentor/manager on what was a busy night.
We were very pleased with the evening. We had to re-arrange the time of the meal but the restaurant was accommodating, welcoming, attentive and the food was very pleasant.
I would give 6 out of 6 for food but for service 4 out of 6 as the waiter kept forgetting to bring us food and drinks we ordered
An excellent meal, the staff were very attentive. A good evening. I can recommend the brioche bread pudding with prunes for dessert. Delicious. I've booked a table for my husband's birthday in February, which I am sure will be a great evening.
Food really nice - kitchen VERY slow. Waited 90 minutes from ordering for main course. One of our party ordered the festive mince pies which were supermarket bought not restaurant made.
We booked for a late lunch on Christmas Eve (2.30pm) and were invited to grab a drink at the bar before taking the table. By the time we took to our table an hour later (after a couple of drinks and pleasant chat with the staff) we were the only diners in the restaurant so received extremely attentive service. Food was great too. All in all, a delightful way to relax and enjoy the day before Christmas Day!
arrived as it opened and service a bit slow to start with. however, food as good as ever and overall experience great. will definitely go again and again.
Excellent service and quality of the food is high, good grade fish and meat, flavours of sauces snd veg was excellent. Top class meal. My family and I est here frequently
We were not very impressed. The restaurant was practically empty, yet it took over 30 minutes to serve our first course, while two tables who came in later were served their steak and chips before we started eating. The second course was not much quicker nor the third course, so we were actually in the restaurant for nearly two and three quarter hours. While we were finishing our dessert and coffee the staff were resetting the tables for the rest of the day making us feel quite in the way. The waiting staff were fine, but something was clearly wrong in the kitchen (or do customers only go there for steak and chips)
Lovely atmosphere, the food is average, taste very much MSG, staff is not very experience but they do try their best, seat comfortably and feel welcoming.
The Brasserie Vacherin could be so much better if some more thought was given to the consumer! There's no doubt that the food is generally good. Service is sloppy; food is very slow to arrive (even if you order the specials); and the device where you pay extra for potatoes (or any other "sides") is very aggravating. It means that I, as a Sutton resident, use the Restaurant only occasionally as a fall back option instead of making it my regular.
The food was mostly good but we had to wait an eternity for everything; starters, mains and drinks all took an age to turn up and they forgot our desert order.
There's a good selection of mains and the steak was decent but the starters selection was uninspiring unless you went for seafood. Deserts were great, especially the caramel tart.
All three courses were well prepared and had excellent flavours. Disappointment was the lobster which although well presented was extremely small for the price and there was hardly any meat in the claws either. Staff were excellent and welcoming and there was a good ambience.
The food is absolutely delicious and the surroundings are lovely. I have eaten here on a umber of occasions and I can honestly say I have never been disappointed.
Excellent meal with good service. My clams as a starter were exceptional and the main course of mixed seafood was tasty. My wife had a lobster for a main course that was extremely good.
Pleasant and attentive, but not intrusive staff. Food served quickly abd the various dishes were very enjoyable. Nice relaxed time. Would certainly recomnend and visit again.
Pleasant ambiance, was busy, friendly staff and good waiting. Good food. was my friends birthday and they did a little song . Had enjoyable evening
We had the 3 course prix fixe menu. Great quality food. The rump steak especially good. Wine by the glass well priced. Efficient, friendly service.
Good food, good service, but the soup was much too hot. Vacherin combo was excellent - be prepared for a large serving and a lot of variety.
Took my boyfriend here for his birthday and he ordered smoked duck and the house special steak. I had the onion soup and moules mariniere. Would definately recommend all the steak and mussels off the menu. The food was delicious and the staff very helpful.
Great meal on the fixed price menu and lots of attention from the staff.Definitely will be going back and try the lobster next time and recommend to my friends too.
Lovely food - I particularly enjoy the oysters. Attentive staff and the French accents add to the experience. I am very pleased to have Brasserie Vacherin in Sutton to have somewhere to go locally for special occasions.
Easy to book,l. Good service, great food. They've changed the way they make the apple tart tatin and it's not as nice as it was before but other than that all good. We would go again
