Very comfortable and spacious venue. Unfortunately they lost our order, but were very apologetic, and took the excellent coffees off the bill. Shakshuka with feta was tasty - if anything the portion was over-generous. Son said bacon and egg brioche roll was perfect, though yolk was firm.

Enjoyable meal and great cocktails. Food was very good, but menu more limited than previously, would have liked more choice (and more gluten-free options).

Food was nice and tasty. However, the menu choice was very limited and definitely not the same as advertised online...

Limited menu that wasn't advertised online or when I booked / not contacted after I booked to mention this so most of us were dissapointed we couldn't order the things we were looking forward to. Long wait for food to arrive.

Tough going getting your bill in timely fashion. they ned to understand that their lunchtime customers aren't all holiday makers. Some of us are trying to squeeze a nice lunch in our lunch hours and could do with a little understanding of that. Some of the staff are excellent, while some are at best glaikit and far away with the fairies.

I often go to Checkpoint and I like the atmosphere. As for the service it really depends on who's on the floor, sometimes you need to ask a few times before anything gets to you! Some staff know more about food allergies than others and very often they don't have everything listed on the menu: I seem to always choose what's not available! The food is fine, although I had the roast pepper soup a couple of weeks ago and it was so peppery that it seemed the pepper mill had fallen into the pot. The chorizo and kale broth is very tasty, although very peppery. But pepper is good for you, right? So overall, it say that even if Checkpoint is no fine dining it's a nice place to hangout.

Great food (the shakshuka is amazing!) and helpful pleasant service. The music was a bit too loud for normal conversation.. otherwise fab

Checkpoint is my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh, hands down. The chill, dimly lit ambience, the excellent taste in music playing, and the food. My god the food is good. Can't recommend highly enough.

Delicious food, stylish and cosy interior, delightful staff, relaxed, friendly but professional. One of our best dining experiences ever - in Edinburgh or further afield.

Checkpoint is very consistent in that the food is always excellent but the service is incredibly disinterested/slow. We sat with finished plates on the table for about half an hour before we managed to flag someone down to give us the bill - and when we got it, it was incorrect. I’ve had the same experience every time I’ve been here. I’d recommend it for the food, but definitely not a place to go if you are in a rush.

We were all pretty happy with the overall experience. We pre-ordered and there were no problems. We were served quickly and were able to eat and get back to work in good time. Thanks Checkpoint!

Great welcome and service. Food was good but very small portions so we had to order side dishes which were a bit pricey.

Great location, look and service. Fantastic Bloody Maria. Great menu, but food unfortunately not as good as on previous visits despite it being very quiet - very overcooked hash browns, and overdone poached eggs which had a residual vinegar taste from using too much in the water.

The service was exceptionally slow, we waited 25 minutes after being seated to receive tap water. The drinks orders were taken as we were finished the drinks by the time the food order was taken. Although the restaurant was busy there was no sense of urgency or apology from the staff for the slow service, they really didn’t care. The vegan breakfast was particularly disappointing and not worth £10.

Very busy due to the festival , but service was friendly and excellent. Food did not disappoint and again , they were so busy I take my hat off to them. My only wish is to see some improvement on the wine list and choice - I tried 4 wines ( 2 white and 2 red ) both at the more expensive end of the list and one recommended by the waitress, but they were all disappointing sadly.

The food is always good here and there's great variety on the menu for breakfast and lunch however it seems to be understaffed. We had to search out servers a few times to place food/drink orders and one coffee order arrived 15-20 mins afterwards. It's definitely value for money, is in a great location and I love the space inside but it could do with some more hands on deck.
